Same thing happened with some peaceful Moslem women wearing headscarves being annoyed by ignorant people in the street in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 in some places.

And this is a good point. I was one of those Muslim women at that time.

Here's the issue, people react when they have fear. Back then people's fear based reactions were quite understandable, much as they are now.

This is something I told my husband when the media first began their fear-mongering campaign.. I was worried about the Chinese restaurant in town, because their parking lot was just plain empty, even though their open sign was lit up. Something I'd never seen here before. (they are normally packed)

And like my husband said they've likely lived here as long as my husband, who himself was born here. So I mentioned we really needed to extend our patronage to them even though we can little afford it because they were likely hit hardest, and for the longest.

But in my opinion, those peddling the fear were the primary responsible parties for that, which was something Trump tried to fight against in the beginning. He was trying to be positive and stay positive throughout.

Information is positive, but 24/7 fear fear fear will always have seriously negative results. And the media, not Trump is responsible for that here.

So now that there are victim's from their fear campaign against the American people media personalities and left wing pundits want to play the blame game on Trump, and it rings hollow because if anyone was trying to prevent mass panic over this it was Trump.

People need to chill.. It's referring to the country.. not the people or the race.

Next people will be offended by a "Mexican Standoff" or the less dangerous but more humorous "Canadian Standoff" at a 4 way stop or doorway... Then there is the "Cuban Necktie" or the "Sicilian Kiss" ... "Russian roulette", Texas Mickey", "Boston Cream pie"...."New York Minute", "Dutch courage", Walk like an Egyptian"....
Most of those terms are racist. Just because racists don't care who they offend doesn't mean the terms are not racist. That's just the nature of racism - it thrives on ignorance and a lack of concern for who they offend the way flies thrive on poop.

That's a pernicious lie, and you should be ashamed of yourself for repeating it.
No, it's not a lie, it's a substantiated fact.

I don't think Christ would walk around on egg shells trying not to offend everyone..
What are you talking about, "eggshells"??? Who's walking "on eggshells"?? Now you're spinning tales.

Remember, He ate with the sinners - shocking in that day, and said many quite insulting things to those who were "holier than thou".
He ate with the sinners to minister unto them. He didn't sin along with them. Shocking in that day as it is to people in this day who are holier-than-thou. Christ certainly would have a lot to say to the Christian Establishment for all their holier-than-thou attitude while promoting hate, racism, violence, and killing.

I know all I need to know of the middle east and I'll run as far and as fast to freedom as I can go...
You know little to nothing about the Middle East. And that's OK in and of itself, but no Middle Easterner can take your opinion on our home seriously since you're not even from there. Certainly don't speak for us when you're not one of us.

And I'll defend that freedom with my life if need be, because I'd see my grandchildren experience it.
You are in bondage and don't know it. A form of Stockholm Syndrome. (OOPS, Racist!!! LOL Please!)

I'm not here to destroy freedom, but rather, to preserve it. Becoming the thought police, as I said yesterday, isn't a good look, and it doesn't work to preserve the freedom of men.
You can't destroy what you willingly give up. Meanwhile, for not being the thought police you sure are policing my thoughts and attacking me for my thoughts. So much for not being the thought police... But with your background I can understand why you have that mindset.

Not everyone on earth should bow down to you, or to me, but rather we should seek a way together that preserves freedom, not remove it.
Except you're angry at me for not bowing down and accepting your racist beliefs and telling you, "oh, it's OK, it's not racist, you're very very good and not racist at all, it's OK to use racist terms and you can still be not racists while using them." But I'm not going to tell you that so you attack me.

A good start would be to stop calling everyone around you a racist or an uncle tom when they disagree with your points on the merits of the case.
A good start would be for you to not dictate that terms aren't racist just because you believe they're not. A good start would be for you to stop being thought police and telling me what to think. A good start would be for you to stop being action polie and stop telling me what to do as "a good start".

Why should I listen to you at all? I shouldn't. I should only listen to people who have love instead of hate, compassion instead of arrogance.

China, Spain, England, Germany, etc., are not races. In fact, there’s really no such thing as race. The Bible doesn’t recognize it, anyway. Ethnicities, yes. But not race.

When was the last time you ordered Spanish rice?

People are pretty simple, between responsibilities of work, home, children, they don't have time to "put on airs..."

My husband is "mountain folk" (the non derogatory term for his people). But he has zero issues with owning the word "hillbilly" or "redneck.." he'll even play the part well just to make people more comfortable putting him down, so he can really put them in their place later if they bother him overly much.

It's just being who you are, and not being overly worried about what others may think of you... THAT is the heart of America... just being yourself and not caring what others think, and not getting all offended at what they may say whether from ignorance or from just plain not having time to figure out what the non-offensive term of the week is for any given group or thing. Most people really just don't have that kind of time.

We are all just Americans here, and if someone wants to be something else maybe they should go where those people are because most Americans would give the shirt off their back for you and call you brother, even as they say things like MERS in relation to a virus...

So..... If a person of the race... is not offended... why are those who are not of the race so offended?

Seriously... people who are not even Asian... offended by others referring to a virus by the name of the country it was first found in. Not the people of the country.. but the country itself...

If there is anything that all this action and reaction to COVID19.. is how seriously small things, in the recent past, have been made to be huge issues... Some things, at this time, that were hugely important.. no longer matter....or are of little concern..

One good thing about it.. it has taken our attention off of petty nonsense and focused on those things that really matter.

You can't destroy what you willingly give up.

So true... and quite the effective means of taking over a country really.

Arguably once you invade (peacefully of course) and have at least 10% of the population agreeing with you, the new idea will then grow exponentially outward from there.

Entire nations can be toppled without a shot fired.

Don't worry, I'll fight against it until God takes me out, because freedom is a far better ideology...

"As bigots blame them for the coronavirus and President Trump labels it the “Chinese virus,” many Chinese-Americans say they are terrified of what could come next.

WASHINGTON — Yuanyuan Zhu was walking to her gym in San Francisco on March 9, thinking the workout could be her last for a while, when she noticed that a man was shouting at her. He was yelling an expletive about China. Then a bus passed, she recalled, and he screamed after it, “Run them over.”

She tried to keep her distance, but when the light changed, she was stuck waiting with him at the crosswalk. She could feel him staring at her. And then, suddenly, she felt it: his saliva hitting her face and her favorite sweater.

In shock, Ms. Zhu, who is 26 and moved to the United States from China five years ago, hurried the rest of the way to the gym. She found a corner where no one could see her, and she cried quietly."

Spit On, Yelled At, Attacked: Chinese-Americans Fear for Their Safety

I wonder if the president of these Americans will do anything to help them? Oh wait, he's the one promoting this as being the fault of the Chinese... Sorry, Chinese-Americans - it's open season on you by these people! (But "Chinese virus" is in no way racist or a racist dog whistle - even though the dogs are clearly responding to the whistle! SMH).

I wonder what racists will defend this behavior now....

Aww that's so awful that poor woman. I hadn't even thought about this possibility and how foolish, she has as much to do with it as he does.

Of course, Trump is not helping calling it the "The Chinese virus" he says one thing out of one side of his mouth and another thing out the other side.
