You say commandments are not about "to do" them.

Let's see if that theory holds up to what the Bible plainly says.

"If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:" (Deuteronomy 19:9).

"To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them." (Psalms 103:18).

Nope. It doesn't look your thinking here is right.
Being raised in church, I used to look to written commandments and strive to obey them. Whether this was the ten commandments or Jesus teaching. I would focus on them and greatly desire to obey them, but if I am honest, those commands in truth showed me how guilty I was of so often failing to obey them. It made me very miserable much of the time, due to my faliures.
A few years ago, my mother whom I dearly loved was told by doctors she was dying of cancer. My wife and I went to look after her in her home for a while before the illness got too bad. During that time, I laid aside my own wants and desires, my joy was seeing my mother happy in the time she had left to live. Nothing was too much trouble to do for her. I loved taking her to see her friends, and bringing them to see her, I was so happy to see how much this meant to her. Taking her out to places she loved to go to made me as happy as it made her. If I had to carry anything for her, it would not bother me if I carried it one mile or two. I did not covet what was my mothers, I did not bear false witness against her, I did not want to murder her, steal from her and I honoured her. One evening I was standing outside her home, and it suddenly hit me that I was closer to the biblical ideal of how to live my life than I had ever previously done. I was obeying the moral law of the ten commandments where my mother was concerned, and obeying Christ's commands too. Why was I obeying the law? Did I look to the ten commandments and Christ's teaching and strive to obey them all concerning my mother? No! I never once thought of any of them where she was concerned. So why was I obeying them? Because I loved my mother greatly. Love really does fulfil the law.
Seems to me, that if we have to focus on, and strive to obey the words of the moral law/Christ's teaching, we are not loving as we should, and the more you love others, the less you will concentrate on literal commands as to how you should treat others, there wouldn't be any need

Yet, Jesus says if you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15).
Loving God is not in the way that you prefer or see. Above all things, the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). Jesus says that we are to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength (Mark 12:29-31). Are you doing that by loving others alone? Well, I know that helping the poor is loving the Lord (See: Matthew 25:40), this is not exactly the same instructions given to us in Mark 12:29-31. When Paul says we are not under the Law, he was referring to the 613 laws of Moses as a contract or package deal. Paul was not referring to the Law of Christ (Galatians 6:2), the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:2), or the Royal Law (James 2:8). Yes, we cannot be justified for salvation by Law Alone without God's grace. But after we are saved by God's grace, we know that His grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and that we should live righteously and godly in this present world (Titus 2:11-12). How do you get righteous instruction? By doing your own thing? No. All Scripture is profitable for righteous instruction to lead the man of God (or the woman of God) to be perfect unto all good works (1 Timothy 3:16-17). Hebrews 7:12 says the Law has changed. Acts of the Apostles 13:39 says that we are not justified by the Law of Moses. Anytime you read Paul condemning how we cannot be saved by the Law or works in Romans and Galatians, it is in reference to the Old Law and not New Testament Law (or New Covenant Law). Don't believe me? Just read the context. Paul says in 1 Timothy 6:3-4 that if any man does not agree with the words of Jesus Christ and the doctrine according to godliness, he is proud and he knows nothing. Paul says a person can deny God by a lack of works (Titus 1:16). Hebrews 12:14 says that without holiness, no man shall see the Lord. Matthew 7:23 is a warning to Christians who think they did good works in Christ's name but they were told to depart from Jesus because they also worked iniquity (sin), too. This proves that they are under some kind of Law by God because the breaking of the Law or the commandment is sin (1 John 3:4). In Matthew 7:23, Jesus said He never knew them. This is because they never really believed that they had to obey the Lord's commandments as a part of knowing the Lord (1 John 2:3). For the person who says they know the Lord and they do not keep His commandments, they are a liar, and the truth is not in them (1 John 2:4). Jesus is the truth (John 14:6) that is not in them if they break God's commands (i.e. If they sin). Are you still in doubt? In Matthew 13:41-42, Jesus says He will send forth His angels and these angels will gather out of HIS KINGDOM all things that offend (anything or anyone who makes others to stumble into sin by a wrong belief or teaching), and who work iniquity (lawlessness or sin themselves) and they will be cast into the furnace of fire (i.e. the Lake of Fire). Jesus warned us of how sin can destroy us. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28-30 that if anyone looks upon a woman in lust, they are in danger of being cast bodily into hell fire.

Which law of God would we be ignoring if we loved him with all our heart, body, soul, mind and strength, and loved others as ourselves? Can you give me an example of one

The commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not covet,’ and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. 10 Love does no harm to a neighbour. Therefore love is the fulfilment of the law. Romans13:9&10

There are different parts to Loving God within the 1st greatest commandment. The aspect of "Loving God with all your heart" within the 1st greatest command is found in John 14:15. Jesus says if you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15). Jesus is saying that if you have a heart affection for Him (i.e. If you love me), you will keep His commandments. The Lord's commandments are more than just the two greatest commandments. Preaching the gospel is a command and a salvation issue (Mark 1:15, Luke 9:62). Forgiving others is a command and it is a salvation issue (Mark 11:25, Matthew 6:15). Hebrews 12:14 says we are to follow after peace with all men, and holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. So if you are not setting out to follow after making peace with all men, you will not see the Lord. Well, that is if you believe Hebrews 12:14. Most today do not read and believe their own Bible in what it plainly says.

There are even things we have to believe that is a part of our salvation: Denying the Incarnation is a salvation issue (1 John 4:3, John 1:1, John 1:14).

Paul is referring to the Moral Law within the Law of Moses in Romans 13:8-10. Galatians 5:14 says a similar thing. We can fulfill all of the Old Testament Law of Moses (the 613) by loving our neighbor. We are no longer under the Law of Moses. Acts of the Apostles 13:39 says we cannot be justified by the Law of Moses. This does not mean there is no more Law (See: Hebrews 7:12).

Keeping the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus makes us free from the Old Law (Which is called the Law of Sin and Death) (See: Romans 8:2).

I just did. Please go back and carefully re-read what I had wrote to you.

Anyways, a person may think loving God with all their heart is baking cookies in honor to God. Another person may draw heart pictures with crosses and write love letters to God. That is not exactly the Biblical way to love God. They may think it is just a feeling. Love God with more feeling alone. That is not exactly what it is saying. Scripture cannot be read in a vacuum. We have to look at the whole counsel of God's Word. Can a person be saved by denying Jesus as their Savior and yet they try to implement the 1st greatest two commandments for their life? Surely not. The two greatest commandments includes accepting God's grace, and in keeping His commandments. As I said before, a person needs to love God by keeping His commandments (John 14:15). This is the heart issue part of how to love God with all your heart.

Who is going to deny Jesus as their saviour if they love him with all their heart, body, soul, mind and strength? You cannot be a Christian if you deny Jesus is your saviour.
Give me one law of God, any law a person will ignore if they love God with all their heart, body, soul, mind and strength and they love others as themselves. You have a lot to choose from, one will do

The fact of the matter is that you cannot read the 1st two greatest commands in a vacuum. That is my point. You even understand that you need something else as a part of fleshing out the two greatest commands. That's my point. I believe the fleshing out of loving God with all your heart is given to us in John 14:15. Jesus says if you love (a heart issue), keep my commandments (John 14:15). The Lord's commands is not just the two greatest commandments alone without looking to other parts of Scripture. There are many commands given to us in the New Testament or New Covenant.

Oh, and if you are not under any Law for salvation, then are you saying you are not under the law or command in 1 John 3:23?

1 John 3:23 is a command that says we are to believe on the name of Jesus Christ, etc. Surely you must believe we are saved by believing in Jesus.

In Romans 13:8-10: Love fulfills the Law is in context to loving your neighbor as a part of fulfilling the Moral Law within the Old Testament Law of Moses. Paul was trying to get Romans who were being deceived into thinking they had to follow the Law of Moses to be saved to come out from the Torah and follow the Lord and His good ways. This does not mean the Lord did not have commands of His own that we are to follow that were different than the Law of Moses. Romans 9-11 deals with the salvation of Israel who rejected their Messiah Jesus Christ and who relied upon the Torah or the Law of Moses (Law Alone Salvationism) as a means for salvation. This is why Paul spoke in the way that he did.

Your not getting it. But that's okay.
I have already stated what I did. It is not going to help you if I merely repeat myself.
All I can say is get away from listening to your Pastors and get into the Word of God alone and just read and believe ALL of what your Bible says and not what you have been taught. Ask God to show you the truth in God's Word and do not try to re-write anything that the Bible says. Before you said that we are not to obey the laws from Jesus as a part of salvation. Acts of the Apostles 3:23 says if any man does not hear that prophet (JESUS), they will be destroyed. Jesus said, if you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15). Paul says if any man loves not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be anathema (accursed). So if we are not loving Jesus by keeping his commandments, we are accursed. Well, that is if you believe these verses.

You have to get in a saved state before you can seek to live as God wants you to live. The unsaved won't. Love still fulfils the law

Paul is trying to get the Roman believers to get away from the Old Law and it's way of thinking. This is because there was a heresy going around that said that you had to be circumcised first in order to be saved (i.e. Circumcision Salvationism).

  1. Acts of the Apostles 15:1 says, “And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.”

  2. Acts of the Apostles 15:5 says, But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”

  3. Acts of the Apostles 15:24 says, “Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:”

Paul was also fighting against this heresy of Circumcision Salvationism.

  1. Galatians 2:3 says, “But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:”

  2. Galatians 5:2 says, “Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.”

  3. Galatians 5:6 says, “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.”

  4. Galatians 6:15 (NLT) says, “It doesn't matter whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation.”

  5. 1 Corinthians 7:18-19 says, 18 For instance, a man who was circumcised before he became a believer should not try to reverse it. And the man who was uncircumcised when he became a believer should not be circumcised now. (NLT) 19 “Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but what matters is the keeping of the commandments of God.” (NASB)

  6. Romans 2:28-29 says, “For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.”

  7. Romans 3:1 says, “What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?”

  8. Romans 4:9-12 says, ”9 “Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. 10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: 12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.”

  9. Acts of the Apostles 21:21 says, “And they are informed of you, that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.”

This is why Paul spoke against the Law and or works. Christians were being deceive by certain Jews to think they had to be circumcised in order to be initially saved, and to keep the whole of the Law of Moses. Yet, Acts of the Apostles 13:39 says we cannot be justified by the Law of Moses. The Law of Christ (Galatians 6:2) is not the Law of Moses. Not all commands that came from Jesus are from the Law of Moses. Jesus even gave us a NEW commandment in John 13:34.

''Before you said that we are not to obey the laws from Jesus as a part of salvation.''

You have to get in a saved state before you can seek to live as God wants you to live. The unsaved won't. Love still fulfils the law

God commands all men everywhere to repent (Acts of the Apostles 17:30).
Surely this includes the goal of fulfilling the two greatest commandments.

This will be my last comment to you, for you cannot give me one single command of God a person would ignore if they loved him with all their heart, body, soul, mind and strength and loved others as themselves. True Love does not work that way. You are just trying to avoid the point continually made. God bless
