The sheep's clothing is the nominal denominational affiliation, following some strange events of influence-gaining over seniors, together with the initial sales pitch, for example we were told it would be less sacramentalised, we would have more autonomy to study Scripture at home, things like that.

After a bit, we were under a far tighter grip of the wolves than our genuine seniors ever dreamed of having, and we are being trained up in mounting stunts against our seniors.

The wolves marshall us to be - under their banner - in the forefront against terrorism or against abortion, mainly or solely for their profile.

I always insisted on taking a back seat, and contributing far less money to the movement(s) than anyone else, as my gut instinct, even as I waxed effusive about them at another level.

Local animators get hand picked due to some susceptibility.

Due to the general lack in churches or our nation, of introducing anyone to each other, they get in there by matchmaking - frankly some genuinely nice marriages ensued but with too much sense of beholdenness.

Ring any bells? Seen any permutations? (Exact brand names and locations needn't be given if you don't want.)

in the forefront against terrorism or against abortion,
Are you against terrorism and abortion? If so why complain?....who cares who gets the credit? If you are not against terrorism and abortion why are you in that church? You will only be able to hold that facade for a short time......

Finding a Church where God's Word is proclaimed faithfully is getting harder, as man is becoming more wicked everyday.
God still raises up faithful preachers, but their voices are drowned out by those you mentioned above.
Most Christians change their denomination several times, before they finally find a faithful Church to join.
I would encourage you to keep looking and don't waste precious time, sitting in dead churches.

I do not mind who gets the credit for good, only that it might cloud judgments of outsiders to the movement, as to what else is going on in parallel, because the operatives claim to substitute their voice for ours. There comes a point where one cannot enlist the compassion of fellow parishioners who don't believe what we say. This is because the bloc mentality of "community organisers" takes root in ordinary parishioners as well.

One other good thing was that, between melodramas we studied Scripture well without further supervision but according to the movement it had their brand name on.

I have also mentioned influencing (I dare not describe by what means), stunts, being picked on to act as tool by dint of susceptibility. In one case they would brag to us of their bad business plans. I would add that publicity materials of at least two of such movements I eyewitnessed did not match their actual practice.

We found ourselves having a monthly boozy lunch out of pious respect for the direction of the interlopers with the spectacular credentials, followed by a chapter of faults.

Also a clergyman treated us as his group confessors without purpose of amend.

One stunt that occurred after I left was interesting: it was pulled against authority by three children (two under 18) of a man whom we had witnessed (before I left) being put under pressure in front of us, while that man was employed by a church trustee in her other job!

Novels about machinations in provincial England are true to life!

They got a foothold in the 1980s you see.

I think the entire thing was utterly hilarious and I'm certain my belly laughing can be heard 100 miles.

Sadly, in some denominations it was not fashionable to walk out (which are prone to infestation due to prior substandard attitudes). In reality, there is merit in knowing how to disfellowship oneself but it reflects poorly that others weren't torn, too.

As it is the eccelesiology section, I am hoping to elicit posts about models of ecclesiology that are relevant. How a church overturned interlopers, effectively dissolved them, learned from it, aims to strengthen itself against them, etc.

Any comical experiences of your own "itineraries"?

What about mergers led by po faced vaguely spoken mystery men?

I did indeed stick one of those for 28 years, a huge feather in my cap. As for the matters mentioned in post 4, it took five years to figure it out in one case and two in another. One gets so resigned to waffly "pastors" and to waiting to see what it is all going to be about. Most of us can't initiate a thing single handedly and would be regarded askance if we did (which I have also seen happen to those who did), we need fellows who are ready to pull also.

I enrolled in a bible study which got turned without warning into videos from a big man in a tall forest, then after I had dropped out for that reason, when they in turn dropped those shortly after, they didn't bother to get me back.

Down with gormlessness!

St. Nilus foretold of these days (430):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the year 1900, toward the middle of the 20th century, the people of that time will become unrecognizable. When the time for the Advent of the Antichrist approaches, peoples minds will grow cloudy from carnal passions, and dishonor and lawlessness will grow stronger. Then the world will become unrecognizable. Peoples appearances will change, and it will be impossible to distinguish men from women due to there shamelessness in dress and style of hair. These people will be cruel and will be like wild animals because of the temptations of the Antichrist. There will be no respect for parents or elders, love will disappear, and Christian pastors, bishops, and priests will become vain men, completely failing to distinguish the right hand way from the left. At that time the morals and traditions of Christians and the Church will change. People will abandon modesty, and dissipation will reign. Falsehood and greed will attain great proportions, and woe to those who pile up treasures. Lust, adultery, homosexuality, secret deeds and murder will rule in society.

At that future time, due to the power of such great crimes and licentiousness, people will be deprived of the grace of the Holy Spirit, which they received in Holy Baptism and equally of remorse.

The Churches of God will be deprived of God-fearing and pious pastors, and woe to the Christians in the world at that time; they will completely lose there faith because they will lack the opportunity of seeing the light of knowledge from anyone at all. Then they will separate themselves out of the world in Holy refuges in search of lightening their spiritual sufferings, but everywhere they will meet obstacles and constraints.

And all this will result from the fact that the Antichrist wants to be Lord over everything and become ruler of the whole universe, and he will produce miracles and fantastic signs. He will also give depraved wisdom to an unhappy man so that he will discover a way by which one man can carry on a conversation with another from one end of the earth to the other. At that time men will also fly through the air like birds and descend to the bottom of the sea like fish.

And when they have achieved all this, these unhappy people spend their lives in comfort without knowing, poor souls, that it is deceit of the Antichrist. And, the impious one! He will so complete science with vanity that it will go off the right path and lead people to lose faith in the existence of God in three hypostases (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).

Then the All-Good God will see the downfall of the human race and will shorten the days for the sake of those few who are being saved, because the enemy wants to lead even the chosen into temptation, if that is possible--then the sword of chastisement will suddenly appear and kill the perverter and his servants.

The Father is my hope; the Son is my refuge; the Holy Spirit is my protector. O All-Holy Trinity, glory to Thee.
