If you claim it boosts the immune system that's one thing, but if you claim its a cure, thats another thing altogether.

I'm not so sure you can make that definitive statement. Here's why. Our immune system is the cure the diseases that afflict us. It was given to us by God for that purpose. The reason we get any disease is because we have harmed our immune system enough that it cannot fight off the invading cells at the very beginning of the disease whether it be cancer, heart disease, or some virus, bacteria or poison. We destroy ourselves with our diet which puts our body under stress and harms our immune system.

Thus, the immune system is the God-given cure for disease, and anything we do to improve it and return it to God-given levels of strength makes it our cure for disease.

Why WATER? What are people afraid is going to happen to our tap water? People are buying more water than I used for two weeks of no electricity or plumbing after Hurricane Ike. (even then, I didn't buy water...but rather filled containers with tap water...bought a new plastic garbage can and filled it up for force flush the toilet and to do shallow baths.)

Walmart was empty when I went with my daughter...except the salad dressing aisle. I had choices of which ranch dressing I wanted. LOL.

The greed and "looking out for number one" is unbelievable. People hoarded the special respiratory masks the hospitals need to care for these patients. We are getting issued one a day...To be safe and effective, they are supposed to be thrown away after taking them off every time. Putting them in a plastic bag for reuse means the virus is likely to be transmitted to the side of the mask by our mouth. The general public shouldn't even be using these masks. To be effective, they need to be fit tested and put on properly. The last fit test I had took twenty minutes.

Indeed, you don't need bottled purified spring water, or whatever, to flush toilets. Get or make rain barrels, trash cans like you're using, and I've even seen water bags you can put in the bathtub to fill up, or one can even just fill the entire bathtub with water. I have a bunch of 5 gallon containers that I got off of a survival site a few years ago to keep water for emergencies, but many other containers will do, such as empty 2 liter soda bottles.

Things are bad for a lot of people now, but I hope that one of the good things that eventually results from this experience is more people being prepared for these sorts of things ahead of time, not just physically, but also in KNOWING how to be prepared.

I think you're absolutely correct in this line of thinking. We think we're really smart these days, but the amount of knowledge we have lost is vast. You put us back into the same environment people lived in during the 1700s and 1800s on the frontier and we would die off in a big hurry. We couldn't survive in that environment for any length of time.

How many of us could survive for a year with no electricity, no gasoline, and no power machinery, let alone live in relative comfort? We've lost that knowledge. We're basically morons in those areas of knowledge.

My wife and I, here in the UK, decided to wait on the Lord for a Rhema word over the Corona Virus.
I guess we were perhaps looking for direction in terms of a course of action we should take, or guidance for our intercession.

I certainly did not expect to hear this.-
The word the Lord gave was "Hyperbole".

This is definitely not a word in my normal vocabulary, but here's what a dummy's online dictionary says.
Hyperbole, from a Greek word meaning "excess," is a figure of speech that uses extreme exaggeration to make a point or show emphasis. It is the opposite of understatement.
  • I am so hungry I could eat a horse.
  • I have a million things to do today.
  • I had a ton of homework.
  • He's as skinny as a toothpick.
  • The car went faster than the speed of light.

So from God's perspective, and for a load of us down here, the whole issue is being "Hyped up" way beyond reality.

I know many reading this post exist in a Christian world that claims the gifts of the Holy Spirit ceased about 2000 years ago, but I am not posting the word of knowledge to start a fight over theology. It is what it is. I believe it represents wisdom from the Lord. Use it or toss it.

But if "Hyperbole" is what the Lord is saying about Covid19 then it seems to me that there is a hidden agenda.
I don't know about the USA as I'm a Brit, and am not accusing my government as I believe they have responded fairly well so far. But the media have been atrocious, and almost singlehandedly have engineered the sensationalism that is causing panic and fear all round.

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but the media are issuing it forth like Niagara Falls (Another hyperbole).
My concern is where is this leading us?

I know many are praying against the virus itself, and that is right, but we should also direct our prayers against the fear generating hyperbole as that is what gives Satan power.

But what do you think is going to happen to the current water supply? Why stock up on water anyway? Sitting water is a place that bacteria can grow. The only reason to stock up on water like this is an expected temporary reason like early stages of a flood in a flood prone area, a hurricane, or maybe a winter storm if your pipes freeze super easy or you are having issues with your well not related to this virus. What are you preparing for? Mostly, I don't see "prepared" people. I see irrational people buying out of fear and with no rational thought.

I agree that boosting the immune system is good, but its not a cure for disease. People can boost their immune system and still die. Preventative measures are just as important as the immune system. You cant claim that boosting the immune system will cure everyone, so how is it a cure?

I blame journalism schools where they obviously quit teaching non-biased reporting (who, what, where, why, and with whom).

I blame the media which rewards news broadcasters with awards that encourages reporters to set up situations and report like they are doing an award winning report. For example, before every hurricane you will see reporters standing in the deepest water puddle or pot hole they can find while giving their "report"...and yet the people in the background are walking in high heels and not getting wet or they plant themselves in the windtunnel between two buildings to make their hat fly off and their hair to fly around them.

I blame us, for blindly believing the media, especially picking the media that supports the things we believe...and not having us use our god given brains to pick the fact based news and to stop watching, reading, listening to the biased, hyped up most entertaining news that again, supports our political view instead of demanding unbiased reporting. I blame us for not understanding the difference between people who give entertaining editorials (talkshows for example) and those who give unbiased reporting (and for us not demanding that the unbiased sources stay unbiased).

The only thing that is going to likely really harm us is the hysteria which may cause a real recession unnecessarily...

Since the majority of people who get sick with this virus are going to recover and be fine, I don't foresee any scenarios in which society collapses. The stores will still have food even if it's not always the particular food you want at the time. I went to grocery store today to see if they had any oranges and ended up getting tangerines instead. Instead of frozen brocolli, I ended up with a mixture of brussel sprouts and other vegetables. I like broccolli better than brussel sprouts, but in either case, it's still nutritious food.

Someone posted on Nextdoor today in a panic because they were down to one roll of toilet paper and couldn't find any anywhere. Some people made recommendations of where to look a couple others offered to give her a few rolls. She did end up finding some later in the day.

I'd be truly surprised to find us in some mass anarchy situation over this particular virus. All it will be is a lifestyle change for a few weeks, which may be hard for a lot of people, but not even close to catastrophic.
You are probably right. Im just saying i hope things dont get worse.

No it won't cure everyone. Sometimes the immune system isn't strong enough or the disease is too powerful. However, the immune system is the best way to cure all diseases caused by a pathogen like a virus. Sometimes, it needs a boost from an antiviral or antibiotic that is specific for the pathogen. However, there is no antiviral that appears to work on the Covid19 at this time and antibiotics only work on bacterial infections.

With this virus, the immune system is the ONLY cure at this time. Which is why it is best to go to bed, isolate to prevent spread, and to allow the fever (part of the immune system to battle off pathogens) to do its job without suppression until it reaches 102.3 F or 39 C. You assist the immune system by keeping well hydrated and sleeping. For people who have compromised health and the virus causes pneumonia, then you might need treatment for the pneumona along with respiratory support until the immune system does its job.

Does that include AIDS as well? Dont they have drugs to treat that?

Drugs for HIV work by helping boost the immune system keep the viral load down. There is no cure for HIV but it can be managed by living a healthy lifestyle and helping the weakened immune system. This is now considered a chronic disease.

They keep the viral load down which helps the immune system recover. You cant just take vitamin C to treat AIDS, you have to keep the virus in check first.

But the medicine can't cure someone who doesn't have any immune system. The immune system won't prevent every illness but it is an active part of healing from one..and protecting from other illnesses, as you heal.

Have a strong immune system is the first step in preventing and fighting a disease. Vitamin C isn't enough but it can't hurt because you pee off the excess. I am a 54 year old nurse who will soon (I just changed jobs) be likely caring for and very close to more advanced cases of Covid-19. I am just trying to lower my stress level, sleep enough, and eat relatively healthy (nothing extreme) so I go onto the unit with a strong immune system. Since there appears to be a mask shortage, I likely will be exposed to the virus. If I show symptoms, I fully expect my immune system to be able to handle them. Like everyone else, I will run a fever which I will address by sleeping as much as possible and drinking water, juice, and gatorade (if I am sweating a lot...I don't need the extra salt or electrolytes otherwise). My immune system will likely defeat the virus in 1-2 days and the fever will go away. I expect to be tired for a week or maybe longer after that (it takes energy for the immune system to defeat a virus like this). I will go back to work when my hospital says I meet their criteria and will most likely be immune to this virus for at least the rest of this season. My immune system will rest and be ready to fight off the next virus or bacteria I come in contact with...and most I will not even be aware I am fighting.

Of course. The medicine doesn't cure HIV either though. (Note at this time, there is no COVID19 medicine...so the immune system does have to do all the work).
Like i said, im not against boosting the immune system, but im not in agreement with calling that a cure though. Its a treatment not a cure. Just my opinion.

Boosting the immune system does not guarantee that you will not get sick or get a disease that needs to be managed with medical intervention. That is correct. A healthy lifestyle is the best way to boost the immune system. Increasing vitamin C can help but won't make up for a bad lifestyle. And you are right that Vit C won't prevent anything or cure anything. It is just a small piece of the puzzle.

Note: Once your body has enough Vit C, it will pee out the rest. It doesn't store it. My nutrition instructor (a Registered Dietitian) called this "expensive urine". There is no way to make the body stockpile it and it won't make up for lack of sleep, poor hydration, or bad lifestyle options like no exercise or smoking.

My nurse friend said she came home last week and tripped over 24 gallons of water in her kitchen bought by her husband. She quietly stacked it but he announced that he was going for more. We had a private laugh about it. "What am I going to do with 24 gallons of bottled water? The money could have been used somewhere else!"

But doesn't disease overwork the immune system, which might require more Vitamin C than usual?
