Luke 6:42 (NASB)
“Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

How does one take the log out of their own eye?

Scripture reading, prayer, fellowship, all these things are all good in themselves. But they are not the removing of the log.... They are the planting and the watering scripture speaks of... They are in fact very necessary as a means to the end, but are not the end in themselves..

For seeing clearly to take the speck out of your brothers eye can only come through knowing when to speak and say the words of life that come from the Christ that dwells in you... It does not come from the amount of scriptures you have memorized.... For that which is flesh is that which comes from self, regardless of how spiritual it may sound....That which comes from the life of Christ in a person, is life and truth, and this is that which alone can feed, and does cause growth and is that which speaks the words of life to the heart that is hungry... This knowing when to speak and when not to, can only come from ones close personal relationship with Christ, that has been seasoned with Grace, which is the believer having dealings with Him...This is Him being formed in the believer, this is self being crucified so the life of Christ might be manifested....This is the food that comes from above...

Since self is all the evil that a man possesses, self is the log in ones eye that needs to be removed before one can see clearly enough to work on the speck they see in someone else’s eye....For until self is removed self will be trying to help self, therefore self will be the only thing that is manifested... For self is the log and any and all forms of it...For until self is seen as the log that needs to be removed, self, human nature, the old creation will be that that is trying to fix that which it finds wrong in another...Which in truth, is just human nature trying to fix in another that which they know by instinct to be wrong in themselves....For self is the same in all, know self in yourself, you know self in all, for human nature is human nature...To be delivered from human nature or self is why Christ died... So until, He, as scripture says “Christ be formed in you” self has not been removed for Christ being formed in the believer is the removing the log of self...For Christ to be formed in, self must go out...

This is something that man is powerless to produce by the efforts of themselves..They can and must water and plant, which is the seeking of Christ out of a pure heart...But the increase of Christ in the heart is something that only God Himself can accomplish...Which He is more than willing to do when the heart has been made ready for and can handle the increase...So to plow and fertilize the soil, is the reading, studying, seeking His face, which is the asking, seeking, knocking scripture speaks of, but the increase can only come from the hand of God Himself....And this all comes through ones close personal relationship with Him....When one is actually being a do’er of the word, whereby one is going and has gone to Christ that they might receive from Him those things they have read about in scripture that scripture says are for them...Which things, all come through the faith of the heart turned to Him....The stronger the faith of the heart turns to Christ the more of Christ will that heart know...So they can see clearly enough to help another towards Christ, out of the Christ in them, and not done to elevate oneself over the other, and as scripture says, that they may “glory in another’s flesh”...Death to the log, death to self is the cure for what ails mankind, anything else is self trying to establish a righteousness of it’s own...Trying to make itself good enough for God...

Than the truth of this statement will be known;

~If it’s me, it’s sin, if it’s Christ, it’s not~

Be blessed as we seek and search after this God that has called us onto Himself..

Great post that is full of truth. Self life is the most necessary thing to get rid of in order to fully recieve the Spirit of God.

Characteristics of the Self Life

A secret spirit of pride or an exalted feeling in view of your success or position-because of your good training or appearance because of your natural gifts or abilities- an important independent spirit?

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 20:6
Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find it?

Romans 12:3
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

James 4:6-8
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Love of human praise; a secret fondness to be noticed; love of supremacy, drawing attention to self in conversation; a swelling out of self when you have had a special open door in speaking or praying?

John 5:44
How can ye believe, which recieve honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

John 12:42-43
42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: 43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

1 Corinthians 13:4
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.

The stirrings of anger or impatience which, worst of all, you call nervousness or holy indignation; a touchy, sensitive spirit; a disposition to resent and retaliate when dissaproved of or contradicted; a desire to throw sharp, heated remarks at another?

Psalms 37:8
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye did not lay it to heart.

James 3:17
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

2 Peter 2:10
But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

A jealous disposition; a secret envy in your heart; an unpleasant sensation in view of the great prosperity and success of others; a disposition to speak of the faults and failings rather that the gifts and virtues of those more talented and appreciated than yourself?

Consider this passage in 1 Cor 4...

3But to me it is a very small thing that I may be examined by you, or by any human court; in fact, I do not even examine myself. 4For I am conscious of nothing against myself, yet I am not by this acquitted; but the one who examines me is the Lord. 5Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men’s hearts; and then each man’s praise will come to him from God.

From this passage the following comes to light.

1. No self examination, only the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
2. No passing judgement on others, it must be His living word that convicts.
3. The result of 1 and 2 is praise.

It is worth noting that churches with legalistic cultures are not likely to be known for their praise.

The reason praise comes from 2. is because the result of such an encounter with Him where He pinpoints the real issue is real release from inner struggles.

Thanks and blessings, one who is beloved of God, for your relationship with Him shows...

I have discovered the closer and more of Christ I know, the closer and more of Him do I want to know..

To the knowing of Him in all things, to the praise of His glory...

How does one take the log out of their own eye?
Examine oneself.

2 Corinthians 13:5
5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.

Very wise words;

“to examine oneself to see if they are in the faith”

Be blessed in your examining, Not me

This verse related to knowing you are saved.

Being released from a 'mote' is a different issue.

A mote blinds you.

You must ask for His revealing what you do not know about yourself.

You need to plead to be free of deception because deception blinds and we cant see it when we have it.

When He shines His light on issues in our lives, the grace is always there to deal with it.

Confession, repentance, renounciation, cleansing, healing, infilling. FEEDOM ! Praise!

Self examination before communion should result in a self awareness of our need of His grace due to our repravity coupled with faith in His forgiveness.

Than the truth of this statement will be known;

~If it’s me, it’s sin, if it’s Christ, it’s not~

Be blessed as we seek and search after this God that has called us onto Himself..

A fellow laborer in Christ, Not me

It is definitely a hard thing to do. I'm literally trying to get a brother to follow christ. No matter how hard I try or what way I approach it he refuses to believe. He is my youngest brother. I always think back to that passage and think that I am the reason for not getting through. There must be something I need to correct in my belief to get through. If that wasnt enough my other brother who was a believer and would discuss the bible with me shot and killed himself a few months ago. That makes its all the more pressing to save this one.

Sad to hear about your brother and his passing..This brother, the other brother, we can stand before God in his behalf.....If it helps at all, the greatest gift you can give him and everybody, is to make yourself as obedient to Christ as you can. So when and if Christ would have you speak, you would be yielded enough to Him to speaks His words of love..

Hope it encourages..

YES - YES - YES

This is such an important thing to understand. The Lord once told me, 'Understanding is understanding that I am God'

It is important to read the Scriptures and know them but if in doing that we didn't get the understanding that the Great I Am (The Christ who said He would never leave us and is also know as the Word of God because He was the words of God for us) is God so we need to seek Him, then we missed the basic message in the Scriptures.

Of course that with that understanding comes the understand that He is the Word of God and not me!

I once told Him that I was only going to say the exact words He told me to and nothing else. He instantly reproved me saying that He was the Word of God and not me. He told me that is was enough that I was like the angels in heaven who listen to Him and do what He askes!

He sometimes gives me very specific words, but He more often He asks me to do something like take a teaching He gave me and post it. In those cases I don't remember it word for word but still do what is asked.

Essentially, we are not trying to replace the Lord but have a relationship with Jesus Christ as our Lord. That still means seeking Him and His words for us, personally.
