I have always assumed that Jesus was 30 years old when He was baptized to start His ministry, and that He ministered for 3 years. Does anyone know off hand where this is verified in the gospels?

That Jesus was thirty years old is as was said above, found in Luke. The three years is an extrapolation from the Gospel of John. John mentions a number of holy days and by counting them up it makes three years.

Correct! and the other Gospels suggest just one year.

This study will answer your question

The 2300-day prophecy, of which the 70-week prophecy is a small part, was to begin at the command that effected the restoration of Jerusalem. This command went forth under King Artaxerxes Longimanus in the year 457 BC (Ezra 7:12-13).ii

Thy people” were God’s chosen people Israel. Seventy weeks resolves into 490 days. Applying the day-year principle, 490 days become 490 years.

The 490 years were appointed to the Jewish nation for these six reasons found in Daniel 9:24:
1. to finish the transgression
2. to make an end of sins
3. to make reconciliation for iniquity
4. to bring in everlasting righteousness
5. to seal up vision and prophecy
6. to anoint the most Holy

These six issues could only be fulfilled in and through the Messiah. Who else could make reconciliation for iniquity or bring in everlasting righteousness?

Jesus Fulfills the Prophecy
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate (Daniel 9:25-27).

Thanks everyone. So Jesus was about 30 years old and the length of his ministry can only be speculated from the number of feasts mentioned.

There is another way you might be able to find an age.

Jesus and John the Baptist were Cousins, what was the year, he was beheaded?

That would give you the beginning date for Jesus Ministry.

No, because Jesus was already healing the sick and the blind could see. That is the message he sent to John when John asked if He was the Messiah, or should we wait for another. So His ministry was well under way by that time.

John was arrested shortly after the Baptism of Jesus.
Jesus Ministry had just begun, it was not well under way.

Anyway, my point was, you might be able to pinpoint John the Baptists age easier, because his father was a priest and served in that capacity when he (John) was born, both Jesus and John were less than a year apart.

How is this eschatological?

The ministry time, as far as the fulfillment of Daniel 9, is not referred to in the text of Daniel 9. Because it has no bearing on the timeline of 62 weeks. What is in Daniel 9 is the arrival of messiah in Jerusalem. And His being cuttoff.

> start in Luke:18:
31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

62 weeks unto messiah arrives in Jerusalem. And, four days later, messiah cutoff. No 3 1/2 years, nor length of ministry.

> headed into Jerusalem, to fulfill arrival of the messiah, Luke 19:28
> acquired the colt to ride Luke 19:33
> he rode toward Jerusalem, on the way hailed at the messiah. Luke 19:37-38 (also in John 12:12-15)
> entered Jerusalem and the temple, and cast out the money changers, Luke 19:45
> taught daily in the temple. The chief priests and scribes sought to destroy him, Luke 19:47
> The chief priests and scribes tried to trick him arguments, Luke 20:1-9
> the chief priest and scribes sought to have him arrested, Luke 20:19-20
> he continued to teach in the temple by day, and stayed on the mount of olives by night. Luke 21:37-38
> feast of unleavened bread, called the passover approached, Luke 22:1
> chief priest and scribes continued to seek how to kill him, Luke 22:2
> Judas, agrees to take money, to betray Jesus so he could be arrested in the absence of the crowds, Luke 22:3-5
> That evening the last supper of Jesus, Luke 22:7-38
> Following the last supper, the meal of unleavened bread, Jesus went out to the mount of olives, to pray, Luke 22:39
> In the dark of night, the chief priests and the captains of the temple, came with Judas, and took Jesus to the house of the high priest Luke 22:47-54
> As soon it was day, the elders of the people, chief priest, and scribes, demanded Art thou the Christ,
and if he was the Son of God. Jesus affirmed that He was. Luke 22:66-71
> Then they took Jesus to Pilate. Luke 23:1-3
> Pilate had the chief priests and scribes take Jesus to Herod. Luke 23:4
> Herod returned Jesus to Pilate. Luke 23:11
> The crowd, with loud voices from the chief priest, demanded Jesus be crucified Luke 23:23
> Jesus crucified on the cross Luke 23:33
> Jesus died, Luke 23:46. Fulfilling the messiah cutoff, just days after arriving in Jerusalem hailed as the messiah.

Yes, I already looked up Daniel 9.
