Ok. Question: in the Bible Jesus speaks in parables; what general statement does Evolution make?

Kinda like using a Mercedes to drive a post hole digger (doing something it wasn't designed to do)?

Not in the slightest, no. How, in your view, was the brain not 'designed' to create concepts like lying, subtlety and religion?

Hi there,

So basically there is a difference between text and subtext. When Jesus went around preaching, He would speak in parables - sharing text with people, but keeping the subtext to Himself and His disciples. The point was, if you were dull of heart and hard of hearing, there was no point in striking up a conversation with you - you would just continue to be the fool.

Many don't understand what Jesus plainly said, never mind his speaking in parables or subtext. I guess the ramifications are so unacceptable that the mind just shuts down.

How did the brain evolve to deny evolution? That's my question.

That's definitely a metaphysical question that a biological one. My only real answer I can give is: because the brain evolved the ability to allow humanity to ask more complicated questions than "Where is the nearest tree/watering hole/lion?".

Pretty smart that ole brain.

It all depends on your point of view, I guess. What Jesus said sounded like "good news" to me. It appears that some people see the carrot and are so pleased with it that they don't care if there's a stick, and some people only like to think about the stick--especially when they can imagine it being used on others.

Because working as a team and sticking to your guns despite evidence probably keeps humans together better then a devotion to being empirical.

No, having the capability to deny observed reality is something that shows how stupid and gullible the brain can be.

Wouldn't that be the mind?

Deny the theory of evolution? Easy, especially in light of what Darwin, the father of the TOE proclaimed in his book (On the Origin of Species): "the number of intermediate varieties which have formerly existed on earth [must] be truly enormous." but then lamented "Why then is not every geological formation and every stratum full of such intermediate links? Geology assuredly does not reveal any such finely graduated organic chain; and this, perhaps, is the most obvious and gravest objection which can be urged against my theory."

How does evolution explain religion?
An organism that ascribed intent to things that happen (such as a rustling in the long grass is a lion stalking you) will breed more than one that does not (even when getting many false positives).

In humans religion is one of those false positives.

That about sums it up.

...you know we've found, many, many intermediate extinct species since Darwin's time, right?

Can you specifically describe a family of animals with evolutionary gaps and why we should have less of them?

Also, Darwin frequently wrote using incredulous questions, that he later answered. (Like the famously dishonest eye quote Creationists like to trot out).

Not quite. We need to identify the 'religion gene'.

Aren't many of those intermediate species just juveniles of the same species that weren't fully developed?
