I used to be a pen pal on chuck colsons ministries to prisoners. That was fun. You might be able to find it by that name. I am hesitant about going to a prison to teach. But the people who do are so cool.

Thanks, i like the idea of being a pen pal to a prisoner, I visited a prison recently but we didn't go in, we took gifts to them.

Hi, are there any online volunteering opportunities available to Christians who want to help people in need? even prison outreach programs?

I participate in and would recommend Kairos.

Kairos Prison Ministry

They are most likely local to you and have many ways for you to participate.

A very noble way to be involved with people in need. Please remember that these guys have 24 hours in a day to plan manipulative schemes upon each other and staff. ( Worked in a small prison many years ago).

So did my mom she was a nurse in a maximum security prison in town. She only worked there for three weeks and several people died and were stabbed and inmates were making moves on her. It was way too much for her and she had to quit.

But this prison is bad news. It's full of rapists and killers and the worst of the worst. I think one person escaped in the 30ish years I've been living here. But they caught him very quickly.

Anyway, I know this topic is old but there's several ways you can give back online. Have you tried being a crisis counselor?
