Mike Pence's 'Pray On It' Plan To Combat Indiana HIV Outbreak Resurfaces After Trump Taps VP to Lead Coronavirus Response

After being tapped by President Donald Trump Wednesday to lead the U.S. response to the threat of coronavirus, Vice President Mike Pence's handling of an HIV outbreak while he was governor of Indiana made its way onto social media.

Pence's slow response to the quick spread of HIV in Scott County, Indiana in 2015 led to the infection of over 200 people. When the idea of a needle exchange to slow the infection rate of the illness was presented to Pence he responded by saying, "I'm going to go home and pray on it.

...in support of what? Not putting someone who's shown already they have no idea how to help people, in charge of fighting something people are going to need help with? Yeah, I pretty much am against that.

I'm more of a "pray while you work" sort of guy. Vice-President Pence would appear to be more of a "pray instead of working" sort, not the kind of person you want in charge of these types of situations.

I think it is always best to consider one's options before beginning to act. For instance, we had about 6 inches of snow fall today. I could , at the first sign snow was falling, panic and run out and try to catch the snow on my snow shovel as it was falling before it settled in my driveway. Instead I considered the fact that if I waited , once it stopped snowing, I could use the snow blower to remove it from my driveway much more efficiently and without risking a heart attack.

...so the best way to treat the AIDs epidemic would be (to use your analogy) to wait until there's a full blown epidemic in that State before you listen to the people who've been dealing with the situation for several years already? Maybe this will explain a little better what Pences "I'm going to pray on it." indecision resulted in:

Fast-forward to 2015. Local health officials began to report HIV cases linked to intravenous prescription opioid use in Scott County. Scott County residents were sharing needles to inject their opioids, and nobody was getting tested.

The situation quickly spiraled out of control. At the height of the outbreak, 20 new cases of HIV were being diagnosed each week, reaching a total of nearly 200 cases by the time the outbreak was finally under control.

All because (at that time) Governor Pence decided he needed to "pray on it" instead of doing what the experts told him would his best course of action. But please, tell me again how me waiting to shovel my sidewalk is going to result in 200 new HIV cases.
