...Although presidential budget proposals often prove to be nothing more than talking points, with the actual spending bills passed by Congress rarely mirroring what the president suggested, one aspect of Trump's latest budget proposal has people talking.
...
While there are numerous pages of proposals that detail how these savings would arise, one cut, in particular, stands out.

In Trump's fiscal 2021 budget, he calls for a reduction in outlays to the Social Security program of $24 billion over the next decade. More than half of these savings would be derived from changes made to Social Security's Disability Insurance (SSDI) program.

The president's proposed "cut" to Social Security is of special concern to the 9.9 million people who received an SSDI benefit check last month.
...
This proposal also comes after President Trump promised not to touch any of the entitlement programs, which includes Social Security, while on the campaign trail in 2015 and 2016.

Broken promises are on the same level of nepotism charges.
Water that has always been puddling under a bridge somewhere.

If it matters to you, it's important. Trump's failure to keep his promises on the wall, for example, don't bother me, since I saw it as a pointless and costly boondoggle anyway. His failure to keep his promise regarding social security is a bigger issue for most Americans, I think.

Many who receive SS benefits aren't actually "entitled" to them. In the good years benefits were extended beyond what the program was designed for. Now those chickens have come home to roost.

I guess they failed to mention this change would come in temporary benefits and not permanent disability. There was another thread peddling this false narrative.
Liberals could save more than that in Social Security costs just by approving euthanasia everywhere.

By all means, enforce the law. But if you promise not to mess with Social Security, then keep your word. Not hard to figure out.

I imagine that's sort of what we'll have if Trump succeeds in wrecking the program. Just a lot slower to work.

This President is way too unconventional to make such a Washingtonesque move like that.
His own clarion call recognizes the answer to this problem: MAGA
Hopefully he gets the opportunity to continue giving us the tools we need to entice investors with high-grade American made products.

That would be nothing compared to what would happen with Bernie's plan.

By all means, enforce the law. But if you promise not to mess with Social Security, then keep your word. Not hard to figure out.
When I read the Federal Register on this matter it was focused on working age citizens who are on temporary disability. Meaning more screenings for those who had an injury qualifying for temporary disability where the outlook was they would be able to return to work within some period of time. If the SSA does not do the reviews people who are able and eligible for work will continue to get a check.

Do you think they should remain on SS disability if they are capable of working?

This is no different than veterans with VA disabilities. If you are a temporary disabled veteran you will at least get a C&P every 3 years. Usually the veteran’s VSO will keep tabs as well to inform them of upcoming reviews.

What advocates for SS disability should do is prepare people for reviews. Meaning ensuring they have their medical records updated and a letter from the doctor explaining their prognosis or progress or lack there of.

That is how the Trump Admin plans to save money. The question is will it work and do they have the resources to do thousands of reviews a month. Probably not.

So he’s not pulling the rug from under grandma. He’s proposing more reviews for work age people who have been designated temporary disabled.

The 33 year old farmer who was in a combine accident losing a leg and given initially a temporary rating just might get a permanent rating. His leg is not going to grow back.

The 43 year old farmer who fell off a tractor breaking both legs and had surgery to fuze two vertebrae, but recovered after 3 years will probably not keep getting benefits.

What’s happening in some cases is human nature. Someone gets a disability check and as long as the government never checks they keep cashing it.

This happened to a person at work who is also a veteran. He was 80% VA disabled. He tried his hardest to find out a way to get to 100%. So he made another claim and had the medical documents and doctors notes to prove the new claim. The VA set him up for a C&P physical and, surprise, they did a full re-evaluation of all his disabilities. They found out two of his temporary disabilities they have not checked up on in a few years were no longer valid. Meaning he received treatment and was fixed. He came out of that assessment still at 80% with the new disability claims.

What people focus on is disproportionately given credit for being important.
We can refer to how presidents part their hair, and for a short time after the discussion, people will consider it important.

Gotten a lot of new wall here in San Diego County and expecting more. We are pleased. 4 more years coming -- plenty of time.

A total of 57 miles of replacement barrier and nine miles of new secondary barrier have been constructed - a total of 66 miles.

However, no "new wall" - any extension to existing structures - has yet been completed.
Trump's border wall - in seven charts

That's right; no new wall at all. Nada. And because Trump is picking the contractors for the replacement walls...

Portion of US border wall in California falls over in high winds and lands on Mexican side

Kind of a metaphor for his presidency, isn't it?

Well, that is an unfounded opinion with no objective facts.

Ever mixed mud?
Contractors fault.
Got to let that mud dry first.
No big thing.
