Are we guilty in some way of what we watch or listen to?...

That’s where the grey area is for me.
From my (current) perspective,
  1. There is vulgarity, and
  2. There is blasphemy.
Vulgarity is crude talk that actually has a legitimate place: bedroom, bathroom, barn, doctor's office, etc.; just not in polite conversation. (Kind of like nudity.)

Blasphemy is any talk that deliberately diminishes God's glory. It is unacceptable at all times [Exodus 20:7].*

I cannot regulate how others use them, but
"Whoever guards his mouth and tongue
Keeps his soul from troubles." Proverbs 21:23 NKJV

I am expected to regulate what is allowed into my house, including movies that I own or stream. (I have worked in vulgar environments so I am a little more laid back about that. I still find it tasteless/distracting when movies use the f-bomb every five seconds, however.)

*We are invited to repent when we cross that line or have granted approval to it [1 John 1:9].

...is one directly guilty in some way of what they watch or listen to even if they don’t necessarily approve of it?
(Again, my conviction, so far)
  1. If you had no say in the other person's speech, no. This goes for people & media outside of your home. We are in the world, but not of it.
  2. Factual news? The same as #1, above.
  3. Vulgar fiction? Rude, but not particularly sin.
  4. Blasphemous fiction?
    • Not guilty, if you didn't know about it, and removed it as soon as you realized it.
    • Guilty, if you knew and let it stay. (Repentance is available.)
(Without God's Name, "damn" & "hell" are just Bible words.)

So...I take it you’re not a Christian in a Christian forum?
I was one of the 'born again' sect in my youth, fortunately I lost my faith when I realised how immoral much of that branch of Christianity was.

Yes of course it is wrong.

Think of your mind as a pipe. If certain elements pass through the pipe and corrode or contaminate it, everything else that passes through it is influenced by it in some way.

That's not to say playing Grand Theft Auto is going to make you a drug dealing criminal, but it definitely normalises and desensitises the mind to things like that.

Look at obesity as an example. It has become normalised and overlooked when gluttony is as much a sin as anything else. Consider that the next time you see someone talking about homosexuality or anything else they consider a sin when they're a walking talking demonstration of their own sin.

I’m not sure what I think yet, but thank you for your straight answer. I hope to hear a few more straight answers as thought out as yours.

LOL! When you get sick, make sure you stand outside the hospital screaming---"I can't go in there---there are a bunch of sick people in there!"

The immoral, the hypocrite--the sinners---is exactly who belong in a church!! That is who Christ wants so He can work on them, sometimes it takes time to have God transform the deepest, darkest part of us. Remember, Jesus said the wheat and the tares are to grow up together, He'll do the weeding. Don't use that old excuse to do what you want to do, just be right up front and say I don't want God in my life. That's what I did, until I realized one day, I do. It's a good thing you didn't stay, one as perfect as you needs no Savior, only sinners do.

I am far from perfect so is everyone else, believer or non believer. I don't believe that Jesus was anymore than an imperfect human like the rest of us.

Thank you---You just might have to change your mind when you meet Him face to face. Hopefully 9in this world, in the next it will be too late. Have a good life. It's the only one you're getting.

This is an omnipotent god you reference? If I was omnipotent I could do everything I wanted in an instant, why can't your god?

Because He doesn't do what He wants---He does what is best.

As it is for you as well. But realists aren't afraid of death like godists are.

Funny that, you would think theists would be only too pleased to meet the god in whom they are supposed to believe a.s.a.p., but most them want to hold onto this life for as long as possible.
