• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Don't know how to get rid of this line of thinking. I tried so hard with erp therapy. So numb inside. I fear I’m set up for failure. Now that I know it’s a hard heart that gets you in trouble with God, I worry I can keep committing blasphemy in my mind and harden my heart.
I can’t live a life without God….I wish he would answer my prayers.

Please don't post by saying get a bottle of perscription pills for anxiety. A pill isn't going to cover up this line of thinking. I'm posting in here for advice from Christians and other OCD sufferers. Thank you.

One thing that I have learnt is, it can be very difficult to come out of a situation like this especially when you've already accepted a doctor's report. Question is are you able to see beyond the doctor's report?

I worry I can keep committing blasphemy in my mind and harden my heart.

May I ask who is committing blasphemy, are you deliberately blaspheming or is your ocd causing you to think these things?

God knows you, he knows why you do things and your feelings when you fail to do what you know you should.
God understands ocd etc he will not condem someone because they have an illness.

Ever read what Paul said about how he did the Evil he did not want to do, while the good he wanted to do he didn't do.
Paul was a great Christian, yet he suffered temptation and failure.
He was not saved because he did great works but because he trusted Jesus.

If confessing your particular sin helps you, do that, but don't get caught up in endlessly confessing, Denver once confessed God does not remember our sins, so thank God for his forgiveness for past sins.

Hope this helps.

I think the OCD caused me to stumble. I got angry...I feel so numb and depressed inside. I thought I was saved but God would have protected me from this evil.

Please don't think that God stops illness when we are saved. We are saved when we have faith in Jesus. Worrying about your salvation shows you that you lack faith in those parts of your life where you worry.

i overcame my mentally ill fears/terror by learning to take Jesus by the hand during fearful times and letting His loving truth cast out the fear and save me the fearful one.

Amazing how that works!

The fear strikes and i the fearful one go to Jesus straight away telling Him all about my fears and asking Him to make me stronger than fear can bring to bear - i go to Him time and again - each time i fear. Accepting His grace when i fall, especially when my terror is about my salvation in Him.

In the end i faced my biggest fear head on and told it to go in Jesus name and fear never bother me again after that. i have been free from terror ever since.

Be of good courage what He did for me He can do for you. It is about cultivating trust, trust that Jesus loves you so much that He will never let you down, even when you fail Him.

Peace.

Not sure I understand you. Sorry.

All I am simply trying to say is, The Lord can completely set you free from this OCD if you learn to trust in Him more. Meditate on the word daily. Tell Him everything, your doubts, fears etc. Remember that man in the Bible who said to Christ, "Please help my unbelief"? Open up to God and He will take you through the whole process of your deliverance. He will never ever leave nor forsake you. He is Faithful.

Thank you so much! I really do want Jesus. I'm so disgusted with myself. I hope he can forgive me for me. Somethimes I feel I don't have the godly sorrow when I pray. Please pray from me. I think this is a mix of OCD and a spiritual attack. I'm seeing all these posts with the same fears here..

i have prayed for you that you may be able to let go of the fear and regain your posture. You see when we really care about our falls then we feel bad about them that is normal but then we go to Jesus and get washed of our sins and shortcomings then our fears turn to joy and our bad feelings to good feelings.

It is for you to believe that Jesus loves you and that He will take all the bad life living in you away and replace it with His good life if you dare to trust Him and love Him for His grace.

Honest each time you have faith in His love you will receive more hope, and hope in God doesn't disappoint the Scriptures teach us. So grow away from your fears by dropping them off at Jesus' feet and leaving them there. Time and again.

Hi bee22. I have been through a very difficult time in my life these last few years. My fiance left me I lost my job and most of my friends and nearly ended up homeless and went through what appeared to be a type of ptsd from the trauma of it all. I say this as understand what its like to be mentally and emotionally unwell in a place of fear and confusion and uncertainty. The hardest part at times is how alone you feel unable to relate or be related to by the world and people you are around.

I just want to encourage you that despite what your feeling or thinking or believing Jesus wants you and he loves you. In the midst of the Storm when we find ourselves surrounded by darkness in the present time we must make a choice to endure through the pain and hope in God's mercy.

Isaiah 50:10

“Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.”

Keep making a choice to turn to Jesus in the midst of it all

Take a deep breath. Focus on your breathing as you breath in and out. Think of a place or person where you have felt deeply and profoundly loved and safe. Remember the warmth and comfort of that place, of feeling loved and safe with that person, or feel a deep sense of love and forgiveness in the embrace of our parents when we were a child when we stumbled and fell and they lifted us up from the ground and wiped away our tears.

Now, bear with me...

Our errors of judgement are very small in the concerns of the universe. However we may evaluate our mistakes and doubts, they are each an essential part of the great tapestry of cause and effect by which the meaning of the universe plays itself out. Our mistakes happened for a reason. If you have made a mistake, it is not because you have failed. You are just playing your part upon which creation will realise itself. We cannot grow without mistakes, nor can we realise our potential without occasionally coming face to face with our vulnerabilities.

God is infinite and eternal, but man is finite as only the passing flicker of the light. We only get to know how big everything is and appreciate what is really important by screwing up. God gets to be perfect, but screwing up is what makes us human. We got the "fun" part of creation didn't we? :D

If you have found the right faith and the right god, that makes you a very lucky and fortunate person. You happen to be the right person in the right place at the right time. You have found the truth and you are walking a path in the knowledge that there is a god that loves and cares for you, as we would wish all parents to care for their children. You are very loved to have such a close and personal relationship with a god that you may wonder if their attention is so closely attuned to your spiritual path that what you do or think may or may not displease them.

It is important to recognise that the judgement we pass upon our selves and each other is not and cannot be the same as a deity responsible for such an enormous creation and endowed with the wisdom that comes from being the creator or parent to such a large swathe of people. People are bitter, jealous, spiteful and petty and there are so because they are so small and everything feels so urgent given how briefly we occupy this small part of time and space. But God is greater than eternity and infinity combined. Any "God" with an inferiority complex to worry if people are approving of him can't be a god at all.

When we are so small and see such a tiny fraction of creation, we may well doubt god's plan or god's purpose for us because we don't see the big picture. But that doesn't mean it is not there. And if we stumble along the way, God is surely big enough to cope with a little doubt and has seen enough of humanity at its best and its worst to forgive. :)

I'm so sorry you're struggling with OCD! I know how painful it is. Are you still continuing with therapy, or do you feel like it didn't work for you? I'd be more than happy to share experiences/advice about OCD, or provide links to my favorite helpful websites. It's a tough disorder to deal with, but thankfully it's possible to experience some victory over it!

I get the hint of doing therapy. The thing is.. I don't know how to because it seems so risky. What if I am those thoughts? It's a big sin to commit.

I understand! No matter our obsession, treating it as OCD always seems risky, because we always have a rationale for why it might NOT be OCD. I'd encourage you to read some more about other people who have had OCD. It might help you to "take the plunge" when you see how many people struggle with the same fear of taking that risk - and also when you see how many people have obsessions similar to yours. Here are some of my favorite websites:
