No, you can’t. You become closer than family with them. They are your spiritual family.

So, it doesn't matter whether it is by baptism or chrismation?

What if it is someone who has apostatized and is being received back in? Is that a new sponsorship? Does the former apply or the latter?

So, sponsorship is greater than marriage? Since marriage makes family, but not purely spiritual family?

What is the unseen reality of all of this?

chrismation fulfills what was lacking in baptism. So there’s no differentiation there.

not sure about the second one. I would think that The Godfather/mother of the person that apostasized would say their sponsor.

sponsorship isn't greater than marriage, but it does make two people spiritually "related," which is why relationship is a no-go.

plus, sponsors do have a spiritual responsibility over the one they sponsor, which can complicate things if in a relationship.
