My late grandmother wrote down this story when she was still living-

She had a sister who was terminally ill with cancer, she was in the hospital and the doctors had only given her a few days to live. My grandmother was at home in bed for the night, when she suddenly woke up in the middle of the night at around 2am. The room suddenly lit up as if a light was turned on but she had not turned on the light. There was a gust of wind in the room even though all the windows were closed and she felt an invisible hand touch her on her arm. Instantly she knew that her sister had come to say goodbye! The room went dark again and the gust of wind stopped. Early the next morning she got a phone call, her sister had passed away during the night at precisely 2am.

It might have been just the imagination of a small child, but a short while after my mother died, I remember waking up and seeing her in my bedroom one night (and I think my brother saw her too), and recall a sense of peace, like she was saying goodbye to us. It lasted only a short time, but I still recall it now, 43 years later

I believe that these accounts have validity and are related to near death experience accounts such as:

This happened to my mother when her grandmother died. My mom was an adult. But she actually saw her grandmother and she spoke. She got a call soon after her grandmother had passed.

WOW!! This is so encouraging to know that this happened to other people, more than one!
It was pretty much exactly like your mother’s experience but she saw her standing at the foot of the bed. She said a few words to her and disappeared.

Some thing else that happened to me: My grandmother passed away about a year ago, that night I was lying in bed when suddenly some very strong and profound thoughts started coming to me, that my grandmother was OK and that she had made it to heaven (she was saved)! I then got the sensation that God was touching me because my grandmother was praying for me!

It's happened to me several times, and to my mom also.

This is an old thread, but was that frightening? Or comforting?

Also I wonder why this doesn't happen to everyone. Maybe the deceased has to kind of request a last visit which God allows sometimes...

My mom found it comforting. She lived out of state when her grandmother died. I’ve often wondered if God does not grant a request to some who ask. I know her grandmother was a God fearing Christian woman and my mother was very close to her.

In my cases it was mostly comforting, although more in some than in others. It usually took the form of a visit and a final goodbye.

In my mom's case, it often involved the realizations the departed person gained about their life, or their relief from physical ailments.

In no cases was it frightening, but my mom and her children have always had a close connection with the spirit world.

This happened when my grandfather crossed over, in sharing this I have had 30+ who have confirmed this in their own experiences. So often we do not perceive what He is doing, when we seek to perceive we are shown.
It’s strange how common it seems to be.

I found it comforting as a child.
