Atheism is defined by Webster's New World Dictionary as, "(1) the belief that there is no God, or denial that God or gods exist,(2) godlessness."

An atheist, therefore, is a person who believes that there is no God.

Why do they hate this God, could be because they do not like how God allows evil, suffering, etc.. to exist. Basically God is not running the world/life they way they want the world ran.

They choose not to believe that there is a God as described in the Bible. If they did, then they would have to examine their actions and choices in the light of a God to whom they are accountable. They don't, because they want total control of their actions, choices and directions; in other words they want to be their own gods, to decide what is good or evil for themselves.

That compares with the serpent telling Eve in the garden that if she ate from the prohibited tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they would not die, but they would be "as God", knowing good and evil for themselves and making their own choices without having to answer to anyone else.

Acts 17: 26, And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

God is real because you don’t argue what is not real. Think about it for a second. Does anyone argue about the existence of the Easter bunny? No. Does anyone argue about the existence of the fictional Santa Claus that climbs people’s chimneys? No. Why is that? The reason is that you know Santa is not real. It’s not that people don’t think that God is real. Fool's ' athiests, hate God so they suppress the truth in unrighteousness.

Romans 1:18 “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.”

Psalm 14:1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.”

Finally, 2 Corinthians 4:4 “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”
