Friends,

I get the impression that many believers support the building of the Third Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.

Maybe they think this hastens the second coming?

As our bodies are now His temple for the Presence of God, why rebuild what He desecrated and destroyed?

Folks anxiously wait for the sacrifices to begin again yet the One Sacrifice has been made.

Jesus in His day, described the Jewish place of worship as the Synagog of Satan in Rev 3:9 - do we want a repeat of this???

What is going on?

Jesus’ prophecy that the pride of the Jewish nation, the temple, would be destroyed inspired the most intense rejection of His teachings. (See Matthew 24:1, 2.) In John 2:19, Jesus says, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Of course, Jesus is speaking of rebuilding a temple—not of stone and nails, but of living stones (1 Peter 2:5). Yet many refused to grasp this teaching (John 2:20, 21). They even mocked Jesus on the cross regarding His prophecy (Matthew 27:40).

Yet when Jesus died, the veil in the earthly temple ripped in two from the top to bottom, signifying that the temple no longer held meaning. A temple for sacrifice today would be as useless as it was then, and it would not be the house of God.

The New Testament is filled with references that the temple is the body of Jesus. Ephesians 2:19–22 says, “Ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God: And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” (See also 1 Peter 2:5.)

Even after God provides all this clear evidence that His temple is a spiritual one, many Christians are waiting for the Jews to receive a construction permit to rebuild a physical temple on the site where a Muslim mosque now sits (coincidence? no). However, there is no prophecy, promise, or commandment in the Bible that says the physical temple would ever be rebuilt after the Romans razed it nearly 2,000 years ago.

No reason for a physical temple to be rebuilt ... Jesus was the final sacrifice for all ... for all time.

Hebrews 9

23So it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24For Christ did not enter a man-made copy (physical/earthly temple) of the true sanctuary (in heaven), but He entered heaven itself, now to appear on our behalf in the presence of God.25Nor did He enter heaven to offer Himself again and again, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26Otherwise, Christ would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

A physical temple will not be built on earth.

You are correct. There is an extreme movement, Christians United for Israel , led by John Hagee that promotes the building of the third temple as mandatory for the return of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. This falls under the dispensational theological system teaching that in order for Christ to return, the Jews must gather in Israel, the third temple must be built in Jerusalem and the Battle of Armageddon must be fought. We need to pray for those who believe in this error.
Blessings

No Christian should support this, in large part because God destroyed the temple for a reason. As for any construction of a temple by the jews, it's a waste of time and money for them to do so. If they build it they will be missing one key element: God. He left the temple, he no longer dwells there and will not dwell in anything the jews might call a temple. Scripture is abundantly clear, the curtain was ripped in half.
You do know that the Jews do not accept the New Testament?

2Thes. 2:4
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Who is this person and what temple is this?

Hi there are many themes intertwined in eschatology that show the birth pangs 1st than the specifics in the back ground and then the real nitty gritty details that paint the full picture and establish a timeline of events and accomplishments.

Hosea 3 is important as it clearly notes that the kingdom comes in the latter days after Israel has gone many days without a king or a sacrifice.

4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim. 5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They shall fear the LORD and His goodness in the latter days.

Now the children of Israel have returned and it indeed has been many days without a sacrifice and also without a king. The return of the sacrifice is implied as after many days without that means you have it again. This is the stage for 2 Thes 2 the man of sin to be revealed in the Temple. This is the same guy as the beast in Rev and the pompous one in Dan 7. All three of these are destroyed when the kingdom comes. 2 Thes and Rev say these men are given power and authority by Satan and are destroyed by the brightness of the coming of the LORD. In Hosea the theme is in the place where they were called not my people they shall be called sons of the living God.

In rev we see the beast has 42 months to rule over every tribe tongue kindred and nation. This is the same time the pompous one in Dan 7 has also a time times and half a time. Then the kingdom comes and is given to one like a glorified son of man standing before the ancient of days and he is given the kingdom that covers the earth when this pompous guy who is persecuting and prevailing is destroyed. This is the same thing the beast is doing in Rev when he is put in the lake of fire and Satan is bound for 1000 years and the nations which were deceived are no longer deceived until the 1000 years is over.

Zech 14 shows the day the LORD is king over all the earth and it comes on a day when Jerusalem is being overrun and the LORD comes and fight that day and destroys graphically those who have invaded Israel. This would be the same as Armageddon. This is the day the LORD is declared king over all the earth and we see life continuing after the LORD comes as a new river will flow year round in two directions and those nations which are left will now have to come keep the feast of tabernacles or they get no rain. This day is when Israel will say the LORD is one and it will be Jesus having come so they are in fact in that day confessing Jesus is LORD.

This matches exactly what Luke 1 says Jesus will do. He will sit on the throne of David and deliver Israel.
29 But when she saw him,[fn] she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

67 Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:
68 “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited and redeemed His people,
69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us
In the house of His servant David,
70 As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets,
Who have been since the world began,
71 That we should be saved from our enemies
And from the hand of all who hate us,
72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers
And to remember His holy covenant,
73 The oath which He swore to our father Abraham:
74 To grant us that we,
Being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.

So the temple will be the stage for the revealing of antichrist and 42 months later the kingdom comes.

There is a thing as spiritual Israel and there will never be another acceptable sacrifice for atonement.
God is keeping the covenant with Abraham and his descendants for the land and we are in the promise in his seed all the nations will be blessed. This kingdom that comes and covers the earth does not end when the 1000 years is over but moves to the new creation of God and indeed it will never end. And in this sense Salvation assures entrance into that kingdom of heaven. The two ideas are not mutually exclusive. There are hundreds of prophecy that support this timeline and many many loose ends that will be tied up. The 2nd coming prophecies in hindsight will be like Isaiah 53 and psalm 22 clear as can be when it is all fulfilled. God is going to perform His word down to every detail.

So Israel is a nation and we should bless them. they have a right to make their own capital city and a right to their own historical heritage sites. the Temple mount being one of them. I weep for Jerusalem as Jesus did for he knew what was coming. And like then the greatest trial of their history is in front of them and God will deliver them and be glorified in them when at last they get it. What a glorious finish to the book of this world which was created for Jesus by Jesus and He will have the preimenance.

You were asked to answer a question, not avoid answering by asking another question.

Would you please show me where the Bible states there will be another (man-made) temple built? If not in the Bible then please explain how another temple is "part of what must happen" for all Israel to be saved.

I don't think the Bible specifically mentions a temple (?) But it does say the Jews will seek to resume their sacrifices, which will then require a temple. The temple is implied.

Why do people not get that the Jews don't accept Christ, and therefore do not accept Him as their temple???

Basically it's not understanding we walk and live in the Spirit (Christ in us) and not in the physical. All believers relationship with Jesus is spiritual until He returns. He will then (physically) take all of his people (the saved) to the heavenly sanctuary where we will be united with Him physically and spiritually forevermore ... AMEN!

Many Christians misplace the focus from spiritual Israel to the literal Jewish nation, they are also confused on the subject of the temple. Most of the speculation for a rebuilt temple springs from a vague reference in 2 Thessalonians 2 dealing with the Antichrist power: “That day shall not come … [until] that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God” (vs. 3, 4).

Many say that for the Antichrist to sit in the temple (physical), it (a physical temple) will obviously have to be rebuilt.

Those who support this belief are known as Christian Zionists, (they include such popular writers as Hal Lindsey, Tim LaHaye, and John Hagee. Their published book sales exceed 70 million copies—including the popular Left Behind series). Their beliefs are endorsed by some of the largest theological colleges and institutions.

so go search and read about Christian Zionists for a more in-depth understanding on the matter.

1 Corinthians 3:16
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

If God's Spirit dwells in you .. you are His temple and His people.

It is a spiritual relationship with Christ until He returns.

What makes you think it's going to happen anyway?

I guess I would have to ask you what you believe about Daniel 9? I think it’s 9, or maybe 7 I haven’t read it in a while.

Anyway, The temple will be built. They have all the religious artifacts and implements to start the religious ceremonies again. It is also believed that they are in possession of the ark of the covenant now as well.

Conjecture or Fact ???

OK... I am pleased that the discussion is beginning to address some very important issues.

Firstly lets be careful to remember that Jesus loves the folks living in Israel today.

I note with interest that a few decades ago there was a strong belief that Russia would relax it's attitude to the Jews and allow them to emigrate to Israel. There was at the time no reason to believe that this was likely. However the real test of prophesy is not that it comes true but that it appears impossible.... and it did at the time. The man who 'saw' this would happen was David Price (if my memory serves me correct).

So believers in Scandinavia built extra rooms on their houses to accomodate the anticipated movement of Jews through their land. Clearly they were motivated by the love of Jesus in doing this. Bingo - Russia made an about face and released the Jews as predicted. Many came to Jesus through this expression of hospitality - the hosts had acted on a very unlikely scenario.

Despite this there is no doubt that the Israelis today are generally stiff necked as in Jesus time. I spent time with a mission to assist believing Jews under persecution. Having you family hold a funeral for you if you become messianic is not pleasant.

But back to topic...

Should the Jews build a third temple? - No.

Will the Jews build a third temple - I think yes.

Should Christians support this initiative - No.

However what complicates things further...

Could it be that the 'abomination that causes desolation' is already in the High Place?

Could that be Islam on the temple mount?

Much to think about - I am no expert - may the Lord lead.

I agree, the proper place for the original temple of the time of Jesus is further down from the 'dome', in the city of David. Where the dome is, that whole plateau was fort Antonia
