John 5:31-32
31“If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. 32 There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is true.

John 8:14-18
14Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. 17 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true. 18 I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”

John 5 says if i testify about myself my testimony is not true but then in Chapter 8 he says even if i testify my testimony is true. This would be because Jesus has himself and his father right? As it says two witnesses are true?

[QUOTE="Eishiba,

It's not that it isn't true because the same thing said over again is either true or not no matter how many times it is said. It refers to someone being there to knowledge it is true by being an eyewitness.

One way to look at it is if someone is on trial in a court of law and that person claims such and such is true and there is no evidence to prove such a claim then it can leave reasonable doubt especially if that person is not known to others/have an established relationship with them to verify they are an honest person. It doesn't mean that that person is not honest. It just means that that person is not known well enough to trust if they are. Therefore, it can cause reasonable doubt in all or some people who may or may not believe them depending upon that the reason is for the trial.

1 John 5

5Who then overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 6This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ—not by water alone, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies to this, because the Spirit is the truth. 7For there are three that testify: 8the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are in agreement.

9Even if we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony that God has given about His Son. 10Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him; whoever does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given about His Son.11And this is that testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
