Trying to figure something out. The DNC and most Democrats are for elimination of the electoral college but the way they have the primaries set up, it is to prevent a “winner take all” scenario.

Should they not just have a primary day where all states vote and the candidate with the most in the popular vote wins? Or states set up the primaries where they award delegates based on the national popular vote?

Would have been a good time for the Democratic Party to demonstrate in action what they proposed for the national general election.

Just waiting. If this was not Bernie the race would have been called by now.

I personally am in favor of keeping the Electoral college, just with a few tweeks. I'd like to eliminate the whole "winner take all" part and replace it with a percentage instead, if you get "X" amount of votes that percentage is what you get in delegates. To me? That would eliminate a lot of the "we need the college so the big States don't swamp the little States" (which I have some other trouble with that argument but that's another thread) For instance in California in 2016 because Clinton won she got all 55 delegates on the other hand she only actually 61% of the votes I'd say instead she'd get 33 of the votes and President Trump would have gotten 17 of the votes. So while Clinton would have still been the clear winner there the delegates would have been divided in a more representational way. It's not perfect but I think it helps make the process a little more equal. any way, we should get back to the OP. Sen. Sanders is still in the lead by over 4000+ votes and Biden is still 5th place behind Sen Warren by almost 1,000+ votes.

It does look like Sanders will be getting the most votes in NH, but since the delegates are divided proportionally (instead of winner-take-all), it looks like Sanders and Buttigieg will be tied in the number of delegates from NH, at 6 each. (I'm looking at New Hampshire Election Results 2020.)

I expected Sanders to do well in New Hampshire, given its proximity to Vermont, and given Sanders' general popularity. I didn't expect Buttigieg to be doing this well. That's an interesting result.

Edit: Correction, the numbers of delegates are rising as more votes come in. Makes sense. Standing by...

You are ignoring state laws. New Hampshire has a law that its primary must precede all others. Iowa has a law that requires it to be the first state with a presidential nominating contest. The DNC has no control. For all 56 elections to be on the same day, there can't be any state laws that dictate election dates.

Just wondering why they don’t change the rules to what they want in the general election.

All I know is why Iowa is first overall and New Hampshire holds the first primary.

The Democratic National Convention will be very interesting. I expect delegates to call for a new leader of the party after candidates expressed their frustration with Tom Perez.

At midnight, I'm seeing Sanders-Buttigieg-Klobuchar at 9-9-6 from both PBS and CNN. So an interesting result for Klobuchar as well.

What I like about the system we have now, with primaries on different dates, is that the pruning in the early primaries make things a little easier on those of us with later primaries. There were a dozen-plus candidates this time with reasonable resumes and reasonable views, and it would take a large investment of time to read all the position papers and voting records for that many people. But it's starting to look like a smaller field now (Sanders, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, maybe Warren and Biden too), and that's now a group of people I can study in detail.

I'd be upset if a group of inexperienced candidates (say, Williamson and Steyer) had emerged as the front runners. I assume that's how some Republicans felt about their 2016 primary. But the voters in Iowa and New Hampshire seem to have made sensible decisions. My two favorites have already dropped out of the race  , but I'm satisfied with the short list in the previous paragraph.
