Once again a partially correct article which is misleading. The Veterans Choice Act had serious issues with who would pay for it and was mired down in the usual VA bureaucracy. I’m in a job where we have hundreds of veterans and they complained they did get an appointment but the civilian doctor asked who was going to pay him. Then private providers started to drop out of the program.

What Trump did to fix this problem was sign the VA Mission Act replacing the VA Choice Act. Also signing into law the VA Accountability Act.

Trump Signs $55 Billion Bill to Replace VA Choice Program

I can give first hand testimony veterans are getting privatized care when the VA has a backlog.

What did the expanded Mission Act change from the Choice Act?

Trump said...
"We just passed Choice," Trump falsely claimed in 2018. "That was 44 years, they've been trying to pass Choice… They've been trying to pass that one for many, many decades. They couldn't do it. We got it passed. We're good at passing things, right?"

Read the links. Even though Obama signed Choice into law it was mismanaged and not funded. The Mission Act added accountability. Interesting now veterans can actually get civilian care where there is a VA hospital backlog.

Before the Mission act fellow veterans at work got a referral but when the civilian provider made the claim there were no funds. Civilian providers just dropped the veteran and said “until the VA figures out how to pay me, I can no longer see you.”

I'll take your word for it. The whole bill had to be rewritten to get more funding.
I'm just glad when the Vets get what they need.
We're 120 miles from the closest VA hospital. I know Choice helped the guys over here. I never heard of them having any problems. One of our PAs was a Medic in Iraq.

I work closely with 40 veterans, as a matter of fact all of us are veterans considering the job.

It was not until about this time last year 4 fellow workers started receiving uninterrupted civilian care.

The majority get their care at the local VA hospital with no problems.

Since most are also military retired and live within miles of an Army post, we have healthcare coverage through Tricare Prime. I’m in that category and can’t complain. I have been referred out to civilian specialty care and only pay a $30 copay and the family premium is $600 a year.

Given that Trump was busily engaged on the "birther" movement to remove America's first "black" president from office based on his legitimacy, why would this President want to be associated with any legislation that an "illegitimate" President Obama signed into law?

As long as he can rename it, and take credit for it, he's good.
