China accuses U.S. of scaremongerng over coronavirus

BEIJING (Reuters) - Beijing on Monday accused the United States of spreading fear over a coronavirus outbreak by pulling nationals out and restricting travel instead of offering significant aid.

Conducting her daily news briefing via the WeChat app rather than in person, Hua also chided the United States for lack of help. "So far, the U.S. government has yet to provide any substantial assistance to China," she said.

That contrasted with President Donald Trump's weekend comments that U.S. officials had offered "tremendous help."

However, his national security adviser Robert O'Brien told an interviewer China had not yet accepted U.S. offers of aid.

Personally I think that the USA response is considerably wiser than:

Trudeau says coronavirus threat remains low in Canada

China has the second largest economy on the planet. Why do they need aid?

Yes, they are now building some of the best weapons but, they can't take care of a little bug.

Still a good idea (for all countries) to help wherever they can. As seen in the US -- maybe coming to a town very near you.

I'm friends IRL w Ella, stanfordella, they have an internet conservatory at Stanford that tracks disinformation / misinformation. Her focus is on stuff about public health so this is a major one atm. There's a MASSIVE Russia-linked disinformation campaign fueling coronavirus alarm in the US. That in turn has caused bullying for Asians in America & a ton of other problems. Americans are unwittingly aiding the Russians by forwarding / liking the content. Disinformation is a contagion. As an example I sent to her a thread about the coronavirus that is in conspiracy theory section here. It was so unhinged from reality you'd think nobody could possibly believe it but yet ppl totally bought it up. The conspiracy theory is one created by a Russian troll farm, then got popularized by an athlete, then Americans spread it all around, so it ended up here.
