Genesis 2:17 NIV
17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Does this verse mean that knowing good will kill you?

If so, what can we ultimately know?

No, it does not. Before the Fall, Adam & Eve already knew "good." The only thing that the KOGE fruit added was the knowledge of "evil." It took away their/our innocence.

Adam & Eve knew good before they partook of the fruit of knowledge?

Explain how?

"Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day." Genesis 1:31 NKJV

"Good" was their wheelhouse!

Wrong. They were innocent and ignorant. They saw good all around them but they did not know what "good" was.

No. Adam disobeyed God, that is what led to his spiritual death. The problem is the source of knowledge. What Adam received was knowledge apart from God. That knowledge allowed him to discern good and evil but he had neither the wisdom or the ability to do good in the eyes of God.

There is a great deal that man calls good (including works of Christians) that is unacceptable to God. Many works are dead. For example, King David wanted to build a temple for God. A noble intent surely! Yet God said David was not qualified.

The best known example is Abraham and Ishmael. God wants our cooperation. He does not need our help.

Many think of independence as a good thing. That is what Adam achieved, or so he thought. Instead, he became Satan's puppet.

Although knowing good is a completely different subject in itself.

The snake was the good guy in that mythical tale.
It's our assumptions of what true good & evil is that will inevitably drive all life on this planet to extinction. Since each one of us are born into a society that believes we can only choose between good or evil, and if you choose the wrong door they will punish you. Two doors, but ultimately only one choice.

I think I will reject both doors and take door 3, the one inbetween.

In the beginning, Adam and Eve were in Paradise, They did not know good from evil, because they was no reason too. When the serpent ( He may not have been a snake as we know them today. Because God said to him that because of what he had done he would now have to crawl on his belly. So it is possible the serpent had appendages at that time.) When Adam and Eve were banished from the garden of Eden, They now knew good from evil and had experienced sin. As a matter of fact they were indwelt with sin. That is why we are born into sin, and the fair judgement is death. Jesus who fully God and fully man, came here for one reason, and that was to give us the gift of grace by exchanging what was rightfully his. That was righteousness, for what was rightfully ours, the judgement of death for sin. Jesus died on the cross for one reason to die for our sins. Jesus also said the ONLY way to the Father was through Him. If you don't accept Jesus and develop a relationship with him, you will go to hell. There are no if's and"s or but"s about it, and there is no door number three.
My prayers for you my friend.

P.S. Food for thought, since we are all direct descendants of Adam and Eve, we are all related. There is no other races but one. The Human race.

Now that we've heard from the peanut gallery for several posts, let's get something straight, for once: It wasn't the "fruit of knowledge" that Adam and Eve partook of. Let's stop reading into the Adam and Eve account/poem what we've stolen from the myth of Prometheus.
