You answered this in the scripture you posted as to the reason why people do such things.

Luke 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

Seekers of the light are ones that try to follow God and not the ways of the world. Even Christians are tricked into the culture of materialism to impress others when their money would greater benefit a hungry child or someone else in need. I believe the reason that Jesus said there will always be the poor among you is because we have the means to care for them, but not all of us have the wiliness to do so.

Good post.
Seekers of the light
Would you care to elaborate on this?

Thank you kindly.

Want I am trying to explain is if we were living our life for Christ and our neighbor, then buying things we don't need and instead providing for the needs of our neighbor would bring us light instead of darkness. To receive the Light of Christ we must live in such a way that is worthy to receive it. Jesus gave us many examples of how that light can be obtained and other examples of how darkness can penetrate our lives if we let it.

In Luke 16:19-31, it speaks about the rich man and the poor man and the rewards or lack there of that they obtained because of their choices. Since is it quite long I am just going to add the link to read it.

This is why I am talking about the light as the answer because seeker of the light are those that don't need all of the stuff you mentioned above. Their wealth could be a benefit of the less fortunate.

Luke 16:19-31 NIV;KJV - The Rich Man and Lazarus - “There was - Bible Gateway
Those who ARE of Christ, already are "in the Light". They're "saturated" in the Light, and that is because Jesus Christ, THE "LIGHT" lives within. HIS Light shines from the inside-out. They are not "seeking" it.

They have "found" the "Light". It's ALREADY "within".

Jesus Christ IS the Light.

As Christians we have to guard ourselves from the darkness to remain in the light. If a person becomes a Christian and is baptized in the name of the Holy Spirit and then at some point decides to murder, commit adultery, rob a bank and so on they are committing actions that are of the Light/Christlike. To be a Christian means to be Christlike and live according to the ways of Christ.

So from what I am hearing you say is that once someone is save and had the Light of Christ no matter what they do they still have that light. That is not how the prodigal son story goes. The prodigal son had the light and decided to leave it for darkness and then finally came back. Light has no room for darkness. However, a repented soul has room for Light and that is what the prodigal son received when he repented and came back to the light.
No. I was speaking of "seekers" "of the light". Those where Christ indwells, are no longer seeking ANYTHING, in particular Christ's Light. They have "FOUND" it.

It is written that Satan can manifest himself as an "angel of light" and thus deceive many.

If one is in-dwelt with Christ, and thus His Light, there is no more "seeking" for a "light".

Clarity is a GOOD thing. Without it, deception has a heyday and confusion reigns.

God is not the Author of confusion.

I like this;

Yes, clarity is a good thing. Glad we worked that out.
Donna, you quoted Donald Trump regarding this post.
A contributor to to this website quotes Mr. Trump each day with this:
""We take this step because we know that, in solving the many, many problems and our great challenges, faith is more powerful than government, and nothing is more powerful than God." - President Donald John Trump
I don't have your quote in front of me, so maybe it's the same.
In any event, thank you for your thoughtful response.
