What apps / Tools do you use for Dry Fire Training when you can't get out to the range?

Just got me a 9mm Pink Rhno Laser Training Cartridge, and after I get a tripod mount for my phone, I'll be doing some target practice in the house to try a few apps out.

What app if any do you use?

I don't use any - just a gun and a target.

I didn't know there were apps for this (silly me...).
Bit hard to do it in the house with live ammo.

It is not good to dry fire a weapon last I knew. The soft brass and primer absorb an otherwise damaging impact. The damage is minute and may not be noticeable but it is there and accumulative. You must get to a range. Be patient. Dry firing will not allow you to accommodate yourself to the weapon's particular kickback with your specific cartridge nd develop accuracy under real conditions. But if you just want to play around get one of those game boys or such.

Snap caps are often utilized for dry firing:

The only caliber usually not recommended for dry fire is .22 rimfire...and even that is debatable.
Will Dry-Firing Damage Rimfire Guns?

One of the training methods used in the military is dry firing. We spent an entire day during basic training learning target acquisition and trigger control while dry firing.

Well, I am a vet from the Viet Nam era through combat in OIF and 7 years as one of the 6 RDFs in the US in the middle. We never dry fired and were trained not to do. We ALWAYS trained with live fire or blanks/MILES system. Weapons must have changed since 2007. Or the military has, again.

Some Manufactures say Dry Firing is fine. (Firearm I'm using)
FAQs | Smith & Wesson
Q: Can I dry fire my Smith & Wesson?

A: Yes, except for the .22 caliber pistols which includes models 22A, 22S, 422, 2206, 2214, 2213 and 41.

.22 caliber revolvers such as models 17, 43, 63, 317 and 617 also should not be dry fired.

While others say don't
https://www.browning.com/content/da...s/2019/18-BFA-193_Buck_Mark_Pistol_OM_WEB.pdf

So I'd go with what the Manufacture says.

And with the Laser Round (Bit like a Snap Cap) , the Hammer is striking the back of the Laser triggering it.

I joined the military in 1978 and retired in 2002, so I fired the same weapons you did.

I joined in 1988 and retired from active duty in 2013 and am currently in the National Guard . I have trained dry firing the whole time.

I was to own a gun and go to a range one day.

If you get a new striker-fired gun, such as Glock, S&W M&P, Sig, CZ, Walther, or what have you, you should be able to dry fire as much as you want, and you are encouraged to do so as part of your regular training. Depending on who you talk to, they'll say AT LEAST 2 hours of dry fire training for every hour of live fire training. Some say to do considerably more.

Do not dry fire rim-fire firearms as the off set firing pin can be damaged or can damage the chamber. (hence Browning's buck-mark mentioned above).

Sig Pistols, due to firing pin design, are prone to break firing pins if dry firing is excessive.

Most other CF pistols and revolvers are good to go, and there is no better way to learn trigger control.

If you have a flat top on your pistol or your revolver, put a dime on top of the barrel, and practice double action. It does not take long and that dime will show you your short comings, and your progress. Work up to rapid fire. I have dry fired many thousands of times on all of my CF pistols and my shooting has not only improved, but the triggers and actions run smoother now than they did from new.

Also, after a set in PPC or IDPA the RSO checks our firearm, then gives us the command to "drop the hammer and holster the firearm"; we dryfire to drop the hammer, pointing at the target.

Is there a dummy bullet that will enable one to dry-fire rimfire pistols? I have a Beretta Bobcat in .22LR.
Yes, there are lots available; however if you get the right sized plastic wall anchor, they work good in a .22 also.

Haha. That is funny. Should be plenty of wall anchors around here. Never thought of that. Thanks much!
