Will you join me in fasting for our nation, fasting for our churches, fasting for our economy, fasting for spiritual breakthrough?

There is a daniel fast, where you just eat veggies.

I do an intermittent fast simply because right now it's a life long thing for me. I eat one meal a day. I have a two hour window where I eat. The rest of the day when I am hungry I eat a bullion broth with a tablespoon of canola oil (one cube of beef bullion, or chicken). That gives me 2 or 3 grams of sodium a day. When you lower your carbs your body goes into ketosis and starts to discharge all it's minerals and electrolytes. So you have to suppliment them. During my work week I eat salads during the meal window, I usually have one treat. My treat is a spoon full of nutella. Or another treat could be fried eggs on toast, bread is not permitted on keto really. So bread can be a treat. As long as it's less than about sixty grams in a few hour window of carbs, it should not kick you out of ketosis. I would shoot for no more than a treat of 20-30 grams though. You don't want to risk getting put out of ketosis, it makes you feel yucky. When ever your body transitions from burning carbs to ketosis your body feels tired and sick. It goes away after a day. It happens on the second or third day of fasting, and it's sometimes found by hunger pains, but as soon as you are on third of fourth day the hunger pains go away mostly. Your stomach shrinks and you get fuller with less. It also cleanses your body of toxins. IT also helps you lose weight any week you want. Since I regularly do this I will make it looser. If I desire more breakthrough later, I can do a full twenty four hour fast of all solids, and just do the canola oil. My meals are usually a spinach salad with one or two avacado's, two boiled eggs, and a form of meat, either cubed turkey ham or hamburger meat (seasoned). That gives me the protein and such and micro nutrients that I need. But if you want to fast from meat just remove it from your salad and just do the salad and eggs and avacado's. The avacado's have five hundred to a thousand milligrams of potassium. the second most important electrolyte. So you will need to suppliment that as well. If you do fasting long term, you may look into foods with magnesium as well. But I just take a multi vitamin with it in it, and a calcium pill. because milk is not keto approved. Once you lose your weight to your goal you can do more of a weight watcher, or carb counting type of approach where you can eat anything just limit what you eat. It's good to change diets every six months anyway to get over plateus. But limiting your body in this way really causes breakthrough I can't tell you how much of my life has changed since I started this lifestyle. My wife also started dieting and my mother in law they both lost twenty five to thirty pounds, I have lost fifty. My goal is to lose another thirty. Then go on weight watchers and just maintain. Keto is not good long term I here, but there are ways to alternate recipes if you want. But to do this only to lose weight is one thing, but to do this to discipline your body, to repent of gluttony and to fast is quite another motive. I realize our motives can get mixed on this. So that is why I will probably still do it even when i am at my goal weight. I typically will reach a low weight, then incorporate more carbs, to reset my body to burning carbs, gain ten or twenty back, then do it over again, this sort of resets, a good time for this is during holiday season when good food is available. On weekends I typically eat breakfast foods. Today I had scrambled eggs and meat and green onions and cheese as my meal of the day. I usually make that on weekends because I don't like salad every day. Sometimes i do an omelette with meat and veggies inside, topped with sour cream and salsa. That is probably my favorite meal. But you can do steaks on keto too if you want. Or fast from steaks. I like to drink black coffee during my fasting part of the day, and no sugar on anything. Then in my window I drink creamer and sweetener in my coffee. Sometimes I have diet soda during my window, I like that. But too much soda is bad for kidneys. One can a day only. If doing every day. Make sure it's not sugary soda, that really messes up kidneys over ten or twenty years. Peer reviews talk about that. Kidney function goes down on regular drinking of soda, and that is one thing they don't let you drink if you have one kidney. It's because of the dies are hard on kidneys, but also the chemicals in sugary drinks. Diet clear soda's are better if drinking lots. But ultimately fasting temporarily you don't have to worry about health issues with it. But if you are doing it long term, then you need to incorporate some of the things. some people just fast from sugar only. Or from meat only, or from bread only. Maybe coffee. But you can fast from any of it or all of it. I started out doing one fast a week on sunday. I fasted from all solids. But that was actually harder than doing a one meal a day intermittent fast all week. Because you have that irregular schedule thing, you always dreaded sunday morning, and were like...not sunday again. So I recommend doing your fast every day, whatever it is. I group of people did a fast from the beginning of the year till the end of january, I joined them. But at the end of the month I plan on just to keep doing it. Indefinately. After christmas I gained 18 pounds and lost about five in last few weeks of fasting. So there are health benefits to it. June hunt has a book out called "overeating" and it's on kindle unimited if you have that.

Don’t pray just because you want something. Prayer is more meaningful when you know God’s grace is sufficient ...

Daniel 10:2-3

"10:3 meat and wine The vegetarian diet initiated in Dan 1:8–16 apparently lasted only for a time. Daniel later ate meat and wine."

Barry, J. D., Mangum, D., Brown, D. R., Heiser, M. S., Custis, M., Ritzema, E., … Bomar, D. (2012, 2016). Faithlife Study Bible (Da 10:3). Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press.

"
Daniel fasted for three weeks (lit., “three sevens of days”; cf. comments on 9:25). During this time of mourning he abstained from choice foods and apparently waited on God in prayer (cf. 10:12) concerning his people’s destiny."

Pentecost, J. D. (1985). Daniel. In J. F. Walvoord & R. B. Zuck (Eds.), The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures (Vol. 1, p. 1365). Wheaton, IL: Victor Books.

" A. Daniel’s vexation (10:1–4): He undergoes an extended fast as a result of the fearful visions.
1. The duration of his fast (10:1–3): Three weeks
2. The location of his fast (10:4): On the bank of the Tigris River"

Willmington, H. L. (1999). The Outline Bible (Da 10:1–4). Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers.

Daniel not only fasted from bread, it was passover bread, he was also fasting from hebrew tradition:

"
10:2 Daniel was mourning because he wanted to understand the vision (v. 12). Three full weeks refers to Daniel’s observance of the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which took place during the first month of the year (see Ex. 12:1–20). The Passover was kept on the fourteenth of the month, and the Feast of the Unleavened Bread for the next eight days, with the whole festival ending on the twenty-first day of the month."

Radmacher, E. D., Allen, R. B., & House, H. W. (1997). The Nelson Study Bible: New King James Version (Da 10:2). Nashville: T. Nelson Publishers.

Fasting is very very important, and I'm very glad you brought it up. Christians need to do it more, and equally as importantly do it together in a community. I really hope and pray that more of us do it this year for the sake of our fellowship with God, and his presence in America as our nation undergoes intense spiritual warfare. I'm so passionate about it I started a YouTube channel dedicated on this topic, and here's a video that talks about fasting:

Our church will be having a season of fasting starting, in February. I will be fasting entertainment, no computer games, or TV (prayer instead), and attempting to do a veggies only fast. It is not a real strict fast, but it will give me more time in prayer.

awesome, I will be fasting too. Here is a neat little article on fasting:

I also had some warfare in my sleep. See I debate christianity, apologetics you name it. Nothing works up the enemy like prayer and fasting. I haven't had warfare for quite some time, I think the last time I had warfare was like a year ago when I posted an article about online purity on a blog I have. I had a circle of investors who were visiting my blog and I had some traffic back then and man I got nailed on that one. One of the darkest dreams I have ever had. Last night, simply creating this thread and the fact it has some action on it, really confounded the enemy. You know that when you are in a river and you don't feel the current against you, you know you are simply going with the flow, but as soon as you take a stand for something, all of a sudden you feel the current of the enemy of the age come against you and battle you. Lets encourage us all to keep going on this, tell everyone we know about fasting. I tell everyone simply because I want to encourage us all to pray. I don't tell people to be like the pharisees, to recieve rewards from men. I can care less about that. But lets get the word out, lets do our fasting. We don't all have to do it the same, but at least do it consistently. To discipline our bodies.

I love this message. The narrator is Jentezen Franklin. I read his book on fasting, it was really awesome. I had watched all his messages, and they confirm lots of things I've been experiencing before, during and after a fast. I also recommend Tak Bhana. He's a preacher in New Zealand, and has a YouTube channel with some great fasting messages.

Eating bullion broth when fasting ? This is starting to sound like Catholic miracle.....

Joking aside, if you are eating bullion broth you are not fasting - physiologically nor in any religious or ethical sense.

Not that calorie restricted diets are not good, but it is not really fasting.

Still keep it up, I am sure it is vastly better than most of us manage.

I disagree sir, the daniel fast was simply from meat and some other things. It's a partial fast. If we fasted like Jesus did, no water or food for 40 days, we would probably die. But I started out by not eating for a day, but I noticed I was giving in, so I decided to fast every day just not as ridgid. And it's been soooo healthy, spiritually and physically. The bullion are elecrolytes (that are needed for a keto diet). They have no calories. It's not a food. It's a liquid. And the oil is where I get "some" calories. But most if not all long term fasts that I have seen do suppliment with some form of calories. Be it a protein shake, or oil like I am doing, or something else. I have never heard of someone fasting as long as I have not supplimenting. It's actually not healthy for you. For the same reason long term diets that restrict micro nutrients and macro nutrients are not healthy. Short term is fine. But if you want to join, feel free. Even if it's just fasting coffee. Or fasting meat. And actually I am suprised that yourself who does lint does not realize that that too is a type of fast. So your right at home here. But yes I am aware that some people think partial fasts are not fasts, but I don't see the saviour like that. I think Jesus meets us where we are at. Even if you simply say to Jesus, "instead of eating from the vending machines at work, today I am going to bring my lunch" And use that self sacrifice to remind you to pray. That's all it is. Disciplining your body into subjection so the spirit can work. Once you get the hang of it, it's quite powerful. Just the other day I broke down in tears on all the spiritual breakthrough happening. Last two or three weeks since I started fasting, when I go to worship at church, I start sobbing uncontrollably. I eventually have to hold back. Which is not good, but I don't like to appear to be weeping and sobbing. Someday I hope to have no thought for my life, or what others can think of me and just submit to God even more. That is why I fast. I need it. This country needs it. The christian church needs it. Do you know that 30% of pastors are addicted to inappropriate contentography? Or that 80% of congregants are addicted? That is a startling statistic. We need to fast and pray. I fasted for august and september then november and december I was off fast for thanksgiving and christmas, then after the first I am planning on going till next november or december if I can help it. Eventually if I lose all the weight I desire, and start to look too scrawny, I am going to add carbs into my one meal a day, some pasta or toast, and sort of reset the process. When you reach a new low, you have to maintain. Then every five or ten pounds I reward myself. I have lost 55 pounds. I know a guy that fasts every day like me, with a one meal a day, and he has lost 70 pounds, and has kept it off. But ultimately when I am at my goal I want to stop keto and just do like a weight watchers maintaining diet of calorie counting and healthy food prep. Right now there are a lot I don't eat. Well I don't eat anything really. I have eggs some days, but most of the week I have salad as my one meal. And I have a spoon of nutella as my treat. But if I decide to stop that, I can fast that part too. Which is not a huge deal. But I would typically get some sugar free candies instead. My wife made sugar free cupcakes, and I can have one of those on my meal window. I think if I did a full fast I would lose too much weight and sort of kill myself off. So that isn't good. I am reminded of religion that says you have to go to church on a particular day, Jesus said the sabath is for man, not man for the sabath. He don't care what day you worship. As long as you take one day in seven to worship him, and make it a day where you are not preoccupied with work, in other words rest. Take a day off. Did you know that before the last few hundred years there were no weekends. In the industrial revolution they came up with a two day weekend, traditionally throughout history we worked saturday, it was the muslims, jews, and christians who popularized the one day off a week. Did you also know that retirement did not exist till the forties. People typically worked till they died. God never says in the Bible to retire. He says "he that does not work, neither shall he eat." That does not mean you cannot rest from your business, it just says that there is no retirement age. I wish that we would employ that in america. work six days and never retire. On the other hand have more family or sick leave and have more sabbatical leave. I think our economy would be way better if we obeyed strictly what was in the Bible. Another thing is that every 7 years debt was forgiven for one year, and every 50 years they forgave all debt permanently. Imagine if we as a country did the jubilee? And made are rule for non essential services not to work on sunday, universally. Not to mention legislating the ten commandments as law. God would turn our economy around in a heart beat. That is what I fast for.

But yes I am aware that some people think partial fasts are not fasts, but I don't see the saviour like that.

Sure it gets down to definition pretty fast ; basically when you are walking to a bar to get a beer after finishing your lunch pizza 10 mins earlier you are fasting. Sure it is very partial fast but when you are not eating you are fasting.

I am sure that helps. Totally ditching internet would probably help more.

Well alcohol is a sensitive subject, I think alcohol use is talked about all over the scriptures. Just not getting drunk. So if someone was used to drinking their favorite alcholic beverage at dinner time and wanted to fast that beverage for some tea or other. And save that money from spending on alcohol and used it to do something wise. I don't see that as a bad thing. And yes I view that as a partial fast, they are fasting all alcoholic use. I am currently fasting that too. So yes, that is a fast. I used to love drinking rum and coke. Then I went to like a wine cooler on weekends. But that stuff has a lot of sugar. But I hear there are many sugar free vodka mixed drinks you can make. Use that sugar free squirt bottle MIO and others, and make a sugar free alcholic beverage using vodka as a base (zero carbs). So yes I like my alcohol in moderation (I have never been drunk, and I have never even buzzed). I drink one day and only that. But again I am fasting all alcohol till further notice, even though I have the liberty as a christian to drink it. (btw I updated my last post, and talked quite extensively on some stuff, check it out).... thanks for the post.

I put together this file of some of the documents I downloaded from intercessors.org. They are very handy and they may have some of them updated, this are probably a year old. This morning I am going to pray for the judicial openings, there is a pdf of prayer points regarding the judge openings in the US.
