Well, I can't talk to what 'these gun owners' think but yes, that is why the 2nd amendment exists...to resist a tyrannical government.

Really?....that's a real question you are asking? So you don't mind being arrested for .....just because?

Every time I drive I am doing something potentially dangerous....you can't shut down people's rights simply because you think it is 'potentially dangerous'. That is not why this government was established...
Who's talking about being arrested? Your argument was that there is absolutely no reason to be afraid of these people and so if there is any fear, the Democrats must be intentionally stoking it.

Who has threantened violence?....Northam wouldn't say.

Some of the seven white supremacists that the FBI has arrested recently.

Tabb said the three men arrested in Delaware and Maryland on Thursday "definitely had an intent" to travel and attack the Richmond rally. He did not specify the Georgia men's intent regarding Richmond, and the Wisconsin case had not yet been made public when he spoke Friday.

--

I think it's also valid to be concerned about some of the groups that were behind the 'Unite the Right' rally who will be at this one.

“I’ll be rolling into town early. I can’t give you my exact time for security reasons,” said Christian Yingling, head of the Pennsylvania Light Foot Militia and a leader at the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville in 2017.

“I organized a convoy, places we can meet up and drive up together. I’ll be leading it,” said Tammy Lee, a militia activist in Oklahoma.

Both Lee and Yingling were members of groups that signed consent decrees never to return to Charlottesville while armed, part of a lawsuit settlement over the violence there. But there is no restriction against coming to Richmond.

Yeah, seems like no one is specifying intent....which seems to be saying 'ehh....just in case'....I always hate arrests based on 'just in case'......

So now paranoia is against the law?

Off topic but curious, my sister in law told me both of her sons called her yesterday saying that West Virginia has announced that any 2A sanctuary county can secede from Virginia and join West Virginia...

have you heard this as confirmed yet? My husband was thinking it still had to go through the WV legislature but my SIL was saying the boys are saying we can join with them...

wondering if you may have some links..

sorry this is a bit off topic, but if we can secede I'm happy to personally, we border WV here anyway and the way the districting in Virginia is, republicans will never have a voice in government again.

Well, WVA has no say in whether any county can secede from VA. Any secession would probably require a vote of the VA legislature rather than a vote of counties.

Many are happy to fight for secession... It's probably the best course of action for us.

These laws they are proposing beat the standard of ridiculous, and I'm sure they won't stop here. Without a voice in government anymore, there's no point in staying part of Virginia.

I guess I see or at least hope this is the "hoisting by their own petard" of the Second Amendment Critics. They love to try to make the Second Amendment just about having "well regulated" militias (And ignore the entire history, culture and law of Anglo Saxon England up to that point). Well they may get some well regulated militias in their backyard....

If there was any justice they would let the red counties that no longer want to be part of VA. join West Va. per that offer that was made a few days ago. That would probably fix a lot of the problem.

You reject the FBI analysis?

So now paranoia is against the law?

Nobody's arresting anybody just because the last time these groups got together someone was murdered. But it does set up a situation where it seems prudent for Richmond to prepare for these very fine visitors.

Any serious citation for that?

This is what my husband knows:

"The bill [House Concurrent Resolution 8] actually calls for county referendums to be held in Virginia counties before August 1st, 2020. If the General Assembly in Virginia were to approve counties leaving the state (which isn’t going to happen), then the West Virginia legislature would put the question of annexation to a vote of the people via a referendum in November of this year. If the resolution were to pass, the first step would be to inform the counties in Virginia that this option is available to them."

West Virginia Lawmakers Offer To Annex Virginia Counties

But my SIL was saying it was already passed, so I was confused.

I don't think the federal government would allow secession.

Gun laws are either a state matter or they aren't...and frankly, conservatives have been insisting they're a state matter for decades now. Well Virginia has passed new gun laws...

If Virginians don't like it....they can challenge the laws in court. If the laws hold up to scrutiny, people can pack up and move.

Trying to secede will just get people killed, thrown in jail, or have their property seized. They won't be allowed to secede.

I would fight to secede.. the democrats live in a different country than the rest of us. There are now 93 jurisdictions — covering roughly 40 percent of the population of Virginia, that is now 2A sanctuary. Just because the major population centers and districting prevents the republicans any say in state government doesnt mean we should sit still and watch our rights be removed as they steamroll over us..

This is what happens when you disenfranchise the population of a voice in government and then go all socialist on people..

Given their track record of the past few years....yeah.
But it does set up a situation where it seems prudent for Richmond to prepare for these very fine visitors.
Yeah, God forbid that these 'very fine visitors' are not allowed to express their political opinion....I can't find anywhere in the law that forbids 'very fine visitors' from expressing a political opinion....maybe you got something?

Virginia braces for gun-rights rally as worries over violence, hate groups and militias grow

RICHMOND, Va. -- Threats of violence, including claims of a militia storming Virginia's Capitol and protesters weaponizing drones, have put federal and state authorities on high alert ahead of Monday's gun-rights rally.

Thousands of people across the country are expected to show up as part of a demonstration demanding state Democrats drop a push for comprehensive gun control in the commonwealth.

The fear of violence has spread quickly and has led to heightened security, road closures and a ban on firearms in the Capitol and on its grounds. An event memorializing victims of gun violence, including one honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., was canceled due to safety concerns. The Federal Aviation Administration has banned drones within a 2-mile radius of the Capitol and nearby students at VCU and the Medical College of Virginia have been encouraged to stay indoors.

Virginia Citizens Defense League President Philip Van Cleave told Fox News it's not the pro-gun groups that are stoking fear.

"It's the Democrats," he said. "It's almost like they want something to happen. It sounds crazy, but they keep doing it and you have to start wondering if that's intentional."

Cleave said membership in his organization has tripled in the past six weeks and that 10,000 people have signed up for free email alerts. He attributes the spike in popularity to Gov. Ralph Northam and Democrats in the state legislature. Van Cleave believes they have "declared war on gun owners" and is counting on gun-rights advocates to show up Monday to have their collective voices heard.

Agreed. Sounds as if Northam and the democrats are simply trying to stoke the fires....
They have reason to be concerned after an Alt-Right fanatic murdered someone at a pro-Confederate rally in Charlottesville. They were protesting the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue and a counter protest opposed them.

What problems would it fix, exactly? Have you been to WV?
