Well, it is true, science does have assumptions about the past (and distant... and future).

The Big Bang thoery actually is going from a singularity to the current universe... it doesn't give the source of the singularity. There are other theories which don't seem to require a singularity. Besides the fact that it was a catholic priest who invented the term Big Bang.

Additionally, the Bible is not a scientific work. It has been a big failure everytime it has been applied as a scientific work. Since the Bible isn't concerned with the science, then it isn't going to talk about things from a scientific perspective.

Obviously, if it did, we would have the science 2000+ years ago, and not have been discovering it in the last 200 years.

That's because the answer to mans' infirmities is not in science. It's in Christ. This is the same reason Christ did not overthrow the Romans and free Israel from their opression.

Though the Bible isn't a Physics textbook, it does tell how God works. If God says He created the earth, then He created it. That's not scientific, its supernatural, extra-scientific.

And question, where has the Bible failed scientifically?

One last reply (if not a new thread).. but a earth centric universe and a flat earth were both ideas that people claimed had biblical support, as they were looking to the Bible for scientific knowledge.

The Bible is not about physics, it isn't going to give scientific knowledge. That isn't it's point.

Any science concerning the past is speculative and subjective because you cannot find empirical evidence for something in the past because all you have is the present. The scientists who developed the big bang theory are surely atheists and with their pre-suppositions of atheism had to design a mechanism for the formation of the universe in the absence of God.
God says "In the beginning God..." not "In the beginning was a singularity in which God invoked dark energy to expand it into the universe..."

Haggai,

Have you seen Prof. Walter Veith's series 'The Genesis Conflict'? The scientific evidence actually supports creation and the flood and disproves the evolution theory.

No I haven't but I have read many books (both pro-Creation and pro-Evolution/Big Bang).
In fact I just recently found a website called Answersingenesis which has a lot of information on the subject.

I realize that the evidence does support, or at least doesn't disprove Genesis.
But thanks for the recommendation I will look into this Veith guy.

So what? Christian doctrine explicitly denies creation so what does this evidence prove?

I have to sort of chuckle at this thread. Oh, the faux outrage.

What does the Bible say about habits, good and bad? Are there spiritual consequences that come from physical habits to which we have given free expression for years? Does the Bible advise us to practice self-discipline or to go full-bore hedonistic with our sex drives running full bore and even out of control?

Show me Biblical evidence that says satisfying our lusts at will is a really good spiritual idea.

Why is it that the Bible says adultery is bad? Why does it say fornication is completely forbiden? Isn't masturbation the mental image of having sex with a woman, any woman? Doesn't Jesus tell us that if we just look at a woman with lust in our heart we are breaking the 10 commandments? Do you think it's a really good idea for a Christian to go around breaking God's law and continually reinforcing that habit on an ongoing basis?

Just don't go putting up that picture of an anti-masturbation device from the 1800's that thing is to too sexually exciting for this forum.
Which one? The USPTO has a few dozen patents on record for that purpose. Most were from the middle to late 1800s.
