(From article):
Even when sober, some heavy marijuana users are dangerous drivers, a new study suggests.

The bad driving appears to be isolated to those who started using pot before age 16, researchers reported Tuesday in Drug and Alcohol Dependence. The theory is that early marijuana use changes the brain, leaving people more impulsive and more apt to make rash decisions.

In the new study, which tested participants in a driving simulator, researchers from McLean Hospital in Boston found that sober cannabis users who started using the drug in their teens had more accidents, drove at higher speeds and cruised through more red lights compared to people who had never used marijuana.

Possibly, a person who uses Mary Jane at age nine is anti-social, to begin with, and has not been well brought up. And so, it is possible that even without using weed the person might later act irrationally and dangerously. The character of the person can have a lot to do with what someone does.

But I would say each person is unique. So, I am considering only a possibility.

Looks like weed has other side effects: Link: Marijuana
Is marijuana addictive?
Marijuana use can lead to the development of a substance use disorder, a medical illness in which the person is unable to stop using even though it's causing health and social problems in their life. Severe substance use disorders are also known as addiction. Research suggests that between 9 and 30 percent of those who use marijuana may develop some degree of marijuana use disorder. People who begin using marijuana before age 18 are four to seven times more likely than adults to develop a marijuana use disorder.

Many people who use marijuana long term and are trying to quit report mild withdrawal symptoms that make quitting difficult. These include:
  • grouchiness
  • sleeplessness
  • decreased appetite
  • anxiety
  • cravings

I would think there is the matter of how much the younger person has used.

But, deeper, the person's character could effect how much he or she uses. And then that character could be a real factor in how the person later behaves.

Someone less anti-social might use less weed, then live less erratically . . . because of his or her less anti-social character. The amount of weed could be just a coincidence, not a cause.

Meanwhile, the anti-social person could use more weed, but be driven, really, by his or her anti-social nature to live erratically.

But if anyone wants to research this, you would need to get to know the younger person very well, I would say, in order to assess the person's character before the person started using the marijuana; and then evaluate how much the later dangerous behavior really came from the character or the chemical . . . or both.

Secular people, by the way, do not believe we have our spiritual level of being in association mainly with God or with "the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience." (in Ephesians 1:12) So, secular people are not going to deal with how much one's spiritual character is effecting one's behavior. Plus, they are not going to deal with how much a Satanic being might be effecting someone . . . causing the drug abuse, but also causing the bad behavior later.

We can trust God to change our character so we are gentle and humble and self-controlled, then see how this effects our lives. To me it appears there are a number of people who were drug using crazies but in Jesus they have become sensible. This can support how character has a lot to do with it :)

Our church's two middle-aged pastors have this background, and now you would not know it.

I offer that the real problem is how people in sin are not satisfied and managed by God's love. So, they seek foolish ways to get themselves to feel good. But, deeper, their selfish nature keeps getting worse so they can do worse and worse things, no matter how much trouble comes to prove they are going the wrong way. Only God can make us honest with ourselves and able to see the real problem.

It's a fact. I recall wishing the car I was riding in would roll over cause it would be fun.
But that was 40 years ago. On the other hand, stoners are resistant to driving. It's WAY too much work and really kills a buzz. You need not worry that stoners will flock to the streets. Much more likely, parking lots will fill with cars not moving.

The Canadian sobriety test came to mind when I read through this thread,so I posted a link for those who want a humorous parody.
