I heard something about government seizing church's property, an attempt of assassination, schismatics, and large protests.

The canonical Orthodox Church in Montenegro is under Serbia, but there's a noncanonical "Montenegrin Orthodox Church." The President of Montenegro has signed a new law which allows the government to seize Churches if the owners are not able to show building permits. This severely affects much of the canonical Serbian Orthodox Church, as they own many buildings that go back to the medieval period, where there were no building permits.

The President of Montenegro openly supports the schismatic Church, and many believe this new law was created and signed so that the government can seize Church property and either keep it for themselves or hand it over to the schismatic Churches. A significant portion of the population is in canonical communion with the Serbs, which has led to great outcry and violence. The schismatic church has openly declared that all Churches built before 1918 belong to them, and they were wrongfully usurped when Serbia "annexed the territory," after the Kingdom of Serbia and the Kingdom of Montenegro entered into a personal union with each other, at the end of World War I. The schismatic church was created in 1993 by a defrocked Serbian Orthodox monk.

As I sit here in the US and debate doctrine or dogma, and ponder things, it's all so small compared to the reality of what those people are going through. And times like that surely make one focus on what's important.

Lord please bless them.

Maybe. To be fair, Patriarch Bartholomew stated that he wouldn’t give Autocephaly to Montenegro even though they’ve asked him.

unfortunately, he initially said the same thing about Ukraine.

I'll take a colonoscopy with a pineapple before I trust anything the current EP says again.

True but it’s still possible, plus I would be fairly surprised if HAH Bartholomew lives another 30 years (though may God grant him many years!), which is about when the Ukraine stuff started, right?

Just trying to stay optimistic. No use crying over milk that hasn’t spilled yet.

Agreed. But make sure they totally knock you out for that procedure and be prepared for a long, spiky recovery :sorry:

This whole Montenegro affair is disgraceful much like the false nation of Kosovo. Both topics hit close to home as I belong to a Serb parish and they’re my adopted people.
The sad part about "Kosovo" is that there are ethnic Albanian Orthodox who do not seem to be standing up for the Serb Orthodox in "Kosovo". I like to think that the Albanian Orthodox could help build bridges between the communities, but they don't seem to have an interest in doing so.
