Hey I'm just curious why do people look at others with an angry face over wearing thick lens on their glasses? Is the thick lens insulting them or something or something? I mean what is it? What part of the thick lens that's making them feel angry, insulted, and offended? Why are they doing that to others wearing thick lens?

It may be because of a belief that people with thick lenses can "stare others down" more easily.

Thick lenses make one's eyes look bigger.

The fact is, people wear thick lenses because:

1) they're far-sighted, due either to age or to their individual eye stricture;

2) they are using the glasses for magnification, such as working on tiny parts (watchmaker, etc.).

Being angry because someone wears thick glasses is silly!

I presume this is something you have observed more than once, perhaps frequently. It's not something I've been aware of, but I have only rarely encountered people with the thick lenses you speak of.

I presume that you, or a colleague/friend wears such glasses and so you have had the opportunity to witness the behaviour of others. I wonder if the following might be the explanation. Some people, when they notice something that is, to them, unusual may tend to stare. I know I am guilty of this at times. I can readily imagine myself staring at someone with thick lenses, thinking "Those are thick. Her eyesight must be really poor. I wonder if they feel heavy? Are they glass, or plastic? Can you make plastic lenses?"

By this time I am probably frowning as well as staring. None of it intentional. None of it hostile, but to others looking on I might easily appear annoyed/angry/upset. Does that seem feasible to you?

The next time it happens why not ask the apparently angry individual "You seem upset. Is there a problem?"

If I could not afford plastic lenses, my glasses would be nearly an inch thick and quite heavy. I've never heard of people looking down on others for this. Back when I was young people were teased for wearing glasses at all. Now it is considered cool, I think. People can be mean about anything.

Due to congenital myopia I had 20-80 vision and wore "coke bottle bottoms'" most of my life. They corrected my vision to 20-40. I was not mocked by anyone, certainly not that I was aware of. About 10 years ago I had lens replacement surgery for cataracts and it brought my vision up to 20-40 and with these beautiful thin plastic lenses it is now 20-20.
