Revelation 11:18
The nations were angry, and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your people who revere your name, both great and small-- and for destroying those who destroy the earth."
Thinking this is a joke, but many teachings of Jesus Christ is in agreement with preserving Earth. Living the opposite of it, as we see today is already driving us to the brink of scarcity and resulting to the mass deaths of animals.
Austerity leads to low (sustainable) consumption of Earth's resources:
Matthew 16:24
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
Establising a good life here in this world....The richest have the greatest accountability in harming Earth and overconsumption of resources.
John 12:25
Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life:
Luke 6:24-25
But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. 25Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
Loving the things of this world is strongly connected to overconsumption of resources. St. John also teaches against it:
1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Fathera]">[a] is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
Our Lord teachings consistently about things that result to sustainable living. Sustainability is the key to an enduring existence, even as a community or nation here on Earth. It's also about prolonged existence but in a way that benefits everyone, not only self and a few others. All these in the end points to eternal life.
