The Trinity defined

A summary of the Trinity doctrine would be: there is One God called the Father. Who in eternity begets the Son, a person who is also God. He is God just as we are human because our father is human. And the Holy Spirit person is also God because he proceeds from the Father and the Son.

The New Testament reveals the Trinity many times and the early church taught it. Some of the more famous Trinitarians were Justin Martyr who authored a Trinitarian plea dated about 155 AD. Another, Athanasius of Alexandria c.298 - 373 AD. The chief defender of Trinirarianism against Arianism. And in its most complete statement, the Nicene Creed (325 AD), to name a few.

But theories developed that challenged the accepted doctrines. To preserve the truth for posterity, the Catholic Church held debates to settle the true doctrine. They documented the results in what we call the Ecumenical Creeds.

Some of these were: The apostle’s Creed. The Nicene Creed. The Athanasian Creed. The Council of Ephesus in 431. And the Chalcedonian Definition in 451. All provided clear definitions in the first centuries of the Church. The heresies didn’t die out but received a warning label for us to heed.

Some of the ancient heresies prevalent today are Modal Monarchianism and Sabellianism. Represented by Oneness Pentecostalism. Especially through the United Pentecostal Church and the Apostolic Pentecostal Church. This doctrine states there is one God, a singular divine person, who changes into the Father, or into the Son, or into the Holy Ghost. Depending on the circumstances.

Ebionism and Gnosticism survived, now represented by Unitarianism and Socinianism. Unitarian Christians therefore, believe that Jesus was inspired by God in his moral teachings, and he is a savior, but he was not a deity or God incarnate.

And Arianism represented by the Jehovah’s’ Witnesses. They say; “…we do not worship Jesus, as we do not believe that he is Almighty God.”

This is important because John says:

“And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.” 1 John 4:3 (KJV 1900)

All deny Jesus Christ came in the flesh by rejecting the trinity. Jesus Christ in the bible is the trinity. So to deny the trinity is to say a false Christ came in his place, showing the work of the spirit of Antichrist in the heart.

An innocent misunderstanding of the trinity is OK up to a point:

Many new believers have little experience in bible reading. But in time the trinity becomes obvious without teaching on the subject. Scripture calls the Father God. And it calls his Son God by saying he is the Son of the Father. And the Holy Spirit is known as the Spirit of God in many passages.

But many fail to catch this, so they say the trinity does not exist. When shown the basic Trinitarian passages, many of these cannot see the trinity in the simplest passages.

Seeing the Trinity is as easy as 123. The following passage boldly proclaims the trinity. Here’s how. Jesus said: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the [singular] name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Matthew 28:19 (KJV 1900)

Notice the singular name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? How did the disciples understand this command? “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38 (KJV 1900) So here the one name of God, Jesus Christ, contains the three persons of God.

Another example is Jesus’ baptism. “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16–17 (KJV 1900). In this passage we see all three persons of God present at once, ruling out modalism.

Christendom

The trinity doctrine came from scripture and passed from generation to generation. But many failing to see it claim it is not there. And set out teaching their ideas instead.

In time the creeds found the various alternative views lacking and labeled them heresies. These same creeds have endured the test of time and continue to unify all of Christendom in her essential beliefs. All who reject these creeds fall into a cult or sect classification. These are cults of Christendom but not considered part of Christendom.

All who do not believe in the content of the creeds are actually under a curse because of the source of said creeds.

Much like in the passage where it says "whenever the law is read a veil is placed over their hearts" the same thing happens with Creedal Christianity, and because of this veil the true spirit of antichrist (teaching a Jesus that does the opposite of what Jesus teaches in the bible) cultivates.

I experience the trinity on a daily basis through contact with God, but also in principle through contact with other people. Because of this, I also experience when others are cursed because they do not believe. It's like God is trying to protect them so they will believe, it just hurts so much.

Very nice.

The largest congregation in my hometown is a United Pentecostal Apostolic Church. Being a small town, I knew many of the congregants and even worked with a few of them. The thing that never made sense about their modalist “Oneness” doctrine was the question “Who was Jesus praying to?” Himself? Wouldn’t that make Him the ultimate narcissist?

And concerning the ancient heresy of Gnosticism, i find it alive and well even in proper Trinitarian circles. It is based in pagan Greek dualism; on the idea that physical is bad and spirit is good. If people get uneasy in thinking or discussing our Lord’s humanity, it is a vestige of gnostic thought. If people think the human body is only a house for the “real” person (their spirit) it is also a vestige of gnostic thought.

The Spirit of Antichrist in Antitrinitarianism...

I think that is not Biblical teaching. Antichristian is defined by this:

By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit who doesn't confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God, and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already.
1 John 4:2-3

Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn't have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.
1 John 2:22-23

Jesus and the Bible doesn’t speak about Trinity. According to the Bible, there is only one true God that is greater than Jesus and Jesus is the image of God and God lives in Jesus as He lives also in the disciples of Jesus.

This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
John 17:3

the Father is greater than I.
John 14:28

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
1 Timothy 2:5

Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his works….
John 14:10

in whom we have our redemption, the forgiveness of our sins; who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation….
Colossians 1:14

Calling people, who are loyal to Jesus and Biblical teachings, antichristian, is in my opinion really wrong.

Confessing a false Christ fails.

.

The teaching on the spirit of antichrist in 1 John 4:2-3 & 2 John 7 teaches us that according to Johns writings Christ is God ( John 1:1) who became flesh ( John 1:14) and this Christ remains forver God in the flesh( a man with a human body) exposing the false teachings of the gnostics in his day. Below is a list of world renown Greek Scholars confirming these facts that Christ came in the flesh and remains in the flesh PERMANENTLY.

Erchomenon the present participle in 2 John 7

Alford- the present tense is timeless(pg 274 RNTC on 2 John)

Brooke- the Incarnation is not only an event in history, it is an abiding truth(pg 274 RNTC on 2 John)

Stott- the two natures manhood and Godhood were united already at His birth, never to be divided. In 1 John 4:2 and here in 2 John 7 emphasizes this permanent union of the natures in the One Person ( TNTC pages 209-210) He who denies the Incarnation is not just a deceiver and an antichrist but “the deceiver and the antichrist”. There is in this heresy a double affront: it opposes Christ and deceives men.(stott TNCT page 210)

Marshall- the use of the present and perfect tenses becomes significant if the point is that Jesus Christ had come and still existed “in flesh”. For him(John) it was axiomatic that there had been a true Incarnation, that the word became flesh and remained flesh. It is a point that receives much stress in 1 John 2:18-28;4:1-6;5:5-8. (NICNT pages 70-71)

Smalley- the present tense emphasizes the permanent union of the human and Divine natures in Jesus. Gods self disclosure in Jesus took place at a particular moment in history , but it has continuing effects in the present and into the future(Word Biblical Commentary page 317)

Nicoll- the continuous manifestation of the Incarnate Christ(Expositors Greek Testament Volume 5 page 202)

Akin- Much has been made of the fact that John uses the present tense in this Christological confession. Literally the verse reads, “Jesus Christ coming in flesh.” “Coming” is a present active participle. This stands out in remarkable contrast to the affirmation of 1 John 4:2, where the text states that “Jesus Christ has [emphasis mine] come in the flesh.” There the perfect active participle is used. The key, it seems, is to discover what John is affirming. Here in 2 John the emphasis falls on the abiding reality of the incarnation. First John 4:2 teaches that the Christ, the Father’s Son (v. 3), has come in the flesh. Second John affirms that the wedding of deity and humanity has an abiding reality (cf. 1 Tim 2:5). The ontological and essential nature of the incarnation that would receive eloquent expression one thousand years later in the writing of St. Anselm (1033–1109) in his classic Cur Deus Homo is already present in seed form in the tiny and neglected letter of 2 John.

Lenski- In 1 John 4:2 we have ἐν σαρκὶ ἐληλυθότα, the perfect participle, “as having come in flesh” (incarnate, John 1:14); here we have ἐρχόμενον ἐν σαρκί, “as coming in flesh,” although the participle is present in form it is really timeless.

of Christ as "still being manifested." See the note at 1 John 3:5. In 1 John 4:2 we have the manifestation treated as a past fact by the perfect tense, ‎eleeluthota ‎"has come

Robertson- That Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh Ieesoun ‎‎Christon ‎‎erchomenon ‎‎en ‎‎sarki‎. "Jesus Christ coming in the flesh." Present middle participle of ‎erchomai treating the Incarnation as a continuing fact which the Docetic Gnostics flatly denied. In 1 John 4:2 we have ‎eleeluthota ‎(perfect active participle) in this same construction with ‎homologeoo‎, because there the reference is to the definite historical fact of the Incarnation.

Vincent- Is come erchomenon‎. Wrong. The verb is in the present participle, "coming," which describes the manhood

NT:2064
e)lhluqenai and e&rxesqaie)n sarki/ are used of the form in which Christ as the divine lo/go$ appeared among men: 1John 4:2,3 (Rec.);2John 7.of the return of Jesus here after from heaven in majesty:

(fromThayer's Greek Lexicon, PC Study Bible formatted Electronic Database.Copyright © 2006 by Biblesoft, Inc. All rights reserved.)

NT:2064
%Erxomai is also used of the return of the Johannine Christ (14:3;21:22f.).The time between his first and second comings is "bridged"by the coming (15:26;16:7)and the presence (14:16,26;cf. 1John 2:1)of the Paraclete. Docetic christology denies the confessional statement that "Jesus Christ has come inthe flesh" (. . . e)nsarki\ e)lhluqw/$,1John 4:2;2John 7).

Calling people, who are loyal to Jesus and Biblical teachings, antichristian, is in my opinion really wrong.

Jesus' question 'Who do you say I am?' is probably the most controversial question ever put.

There's scriptural support for and against trinitarianism. The Nicene and Apostles' Creeds sought to settle the matter. On the other hand, it appears not all prominent ante-Nicene fathers were trinitarians, Origen for example was at least arguably semi-Arian. It was the somewhat arcane works of St Martin that turned the tide against the spread of Arianist Christianity in Europe. Add to that the mystical, almost elusive, flavour of the trinity concept.

We see in the Eschaton examples like Rev 21:23, which clearly teaches of 2 great lights to replace the sun and moon, implying separate and distinct beings.

And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

That said, a high Christology recognises that Yahushua is the right arm of God, His covenant word made flesh, the pre-existent son who descended from heaven and was found worthy to inherit all things, as all things will be put under his feet, so that God may be all in all.

Still, and although it's not an easy fit with personal revelation, I accept that non-trinitarianism is formally heretical, after undergoing extensive discussion and debate by the early Church fathers.

I think the problem is that people take only part of what is said in the Bible and then interpret it to fit to their desired result. I hope Christians (disciples of Jesus) would be loyal to Jesus and remain in all his teachings, without added doctrines that can’t be defended by the Bible, when the whole Bible is considered.

I think we should take the whole Bible and not add own doctrines to it.
It wasn’t my doctrine but sound exegesis of 1 John 4:2-3 and 2 John 7.

I can’t make you accept the truth that’s Christ’s job.

hope this helps !!!

Thanks, I think all the scriptures in the Bible are good and we should not reject any of them. And I hope Christians, if they truly are disciples of Jesus, should first of all be loyal to Jesus and his teachings.
