Why did God want to kill Moses when he lodged on his way to set Israel free from slavery to Pharaoh?

The main points of this puzzling story in Exodus 4:18-26 are,
  • The Lord told Moses to go to back to Egypt and do all the miracles of God before Pharaoh.
  • And if Pharaoh refuses to set Israel free, then the Lord will kill his firstborn son.
  • When Moses and his family lodged on the way to Egypt, the Lord met him and “sought to put him to death.”
  • Then Zipporah cut off her son's foreskin with a flint and touched Moses feet with it and said surely you are “a bridegroom of blood” to me.
  • After the son was circumcised the Lord “let him alone” from a judgment of death and he lived.
  • Then Moses wife said a second time "a bridegroom of blood" because of the circumcision.
At a lodging place on the way to Egypt
the Lord met him and “sought to put him to death”
So why did the LORD “seek to put him to death” when Moses and his family lodged on their way to Egypt, shortly before he was to perform the miracles of God to set Israel free from their slavery to Pharaoh?

In this most peculiar story, Moses, his Gentile wife Zipporah, and their two sons were traveling to Egypt, and while they lodged on the way one of their sons was uncircumcised and the scriptures say the LORD met him and “sought to put him to death,” Exodus 4:24.

Genesis 17:14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."

Since Moses Gentile wife was the one who circumcised her son, some Bible teachers believe Zipporah did not want her son to be circumcised, but she finally gave in when God said he was going to kill “him.”

Now what's puzzling is the scriptures do not specifically say who the Lord was going to kill, instead it just says “him,” which could either be referring to Moses or his son who was guilty of death since he was uncircumcised.

And another strange detail is why was the son's foreskin placed on the feet Moses? And why did Zipporah call Moses a “bridegroom of blood” two times because of the circumcision?

In the natural these details are difficult to understand and make no sense whatsoever. However these statements may be suggesting there is a deeper spiritual and prophetic explanation that's hidden within this perplexing story.

As I said God who 'sought to put him to death' is an uncertain phrase that could either be referring to Moses who should be put to death since his son was not circumcised, or the son was guilty of death for his own sin, Genesis 17:14. But in the spiritual Moses is a type for Jesus, and his uncircumcised son represents mankind who is born with a sinful uncircumcised heart.

And the phrase 'sought to put him to death' that's referring to Moses or his son is meant to be vague since its a veiled prophecy for when the Father in heaven 'sought to put Jesus to death' on the cross for our sinful uncircumcised hearts that are guilty of God's judgment of death, Jeremiah 4:4, Galatians 2:19-20, Acts 7:51.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him (Jesus) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Zipporah put her son's foreskin on the feet of Moses, the bridegroom of blood
The foreskin of the circumcised son that Zipporah placed on the feet of Moses when she called him a bridegroom of blood, is symbolic for the sins in our heart that are circumcised by the Spirit and placed on the feet of Jesus when he became our “Bridegroom of blood” on the cross when he died for our sins, Luke 22:20, Mark 2:20.

Remove the foreskin of your hearts men of Judah
Jeremiah 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD; remove the (sinful) foreskin of your hearts, O men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of the evil of your deeds."

Deuteronomy 10:16 Circumcise therefore the (sinful) foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn.

Romans 2:28-29 For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. (29) But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.

Ezekiel 36:26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the (sinful) heart of stone from your flesh and give you a (righteous) heart of flesh.

Zipporah circumcised her son with a sharp flint stone
Moses Gentile wife Zipporah who circumcised her son's foreskin with the sharp flint stone represents Christians who circumcise a sinners heart with the sharp two-edged sword of the Gospel that separates flesh from spirit, Hebrews 4:12.

Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (13) And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

After Moses son was circumcised the Lord 'let him alone' from death
After the son's foreskin was placed on the feet of Moses, the Lord 'let him alone' and did not kill him. Once again 'let him alone' is an ambiguous phrase that could be referring to Moses, or his son who was spared from death now that he was circumcised.

However in the spiritual Moses or his son who was 'let alone' from a judgment of death is a deep picture for Jesus who was 'let alone' from death when he was resurrected after 3 days, so we too can be forgiven of our sins and 'let alone' from God's judgment of death through faith in Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:21.

The phrase 'let him alone' from death that's symbolic for Jesus resurrection and our salvation, is similar to when Abraham raised the knife to kill his son Isaac when the angel said, “do not lay your hand on the boy,” which is another symbolic picture for Jesus death and resurrection for our sins, Genesis 22:10-13.

Moses lodged on his way to Egypt
Moses who lodged when the Lord 'sought to put him to death' because his son was uncircumcised on his journey to deliver Israel from slavery to Pharaoh in Egypt, is a prophecy for Jesus who lodged in Jerusalem when God 'sought to put him to death' on the cross for our sinful uncircumcised hearts (Acts 7:51), on his long 2,000 year journey to save Israel from their slavery to sin and the Antichrist in spiritual Egypt (Jerusalem) at the end of the tribulation, Revelation 11:7-8.

Israel lodged by the Jordan river 3 days until the ark was lifted up
Joshua and Israel who lodged by the Jordan river 3 days (Joshua 3:1-3) until the ark was lifted up so they could enter the promised land 2,000 cubits downstream from the ark opposite Jericho, that they later defeated after marching around the city for 7 days by faith, is a similar prophecy for Jesus who lodged in the grave and was resurrected after 3 days, followed by the 2,000 year gospel age when Israel will again be in their land as they battle through the 7 year tribulation and are victorious through faith in God.

God's 10 Plagues for Egypt are a type for the tribulation judgments
The 10 plagues that set Israel free from slavery to Pharaoh when they placed the blood of the lamb on the wooden doorposts, are prophetic for God's tribulation judgments so Israel can be set free from slavery to sin and the Antichrist by faith in Jesus blood that was shed on the cross when he 'lodged in Jerusalem,' Deuteronomy 30, 1-7, John 1:29.

Two sons were born to Moses and his Gentile wife
while he was in Midian and separated from Israel
The two half-Jewish half-Gentile sons that were born from Moses and his Gentile wife Zipporah while he was in Midian and separated from Israel who was enslaved to Pharaoh in Egypt, are prophetic for the Gentile saints who are born-again during the 2,000 year gospel age while Jesus is spiritually separated from unrighteous Israel who is a slave to sin and the Antichrist in the tribulation in symbolic Egypt, Revelation 11:7-8.

The name of Moses first son Gershom means, "I have been a sojourner in a foreign land." Moses who was separated from Israel and living in the foreign land of Midian when his two sons were born, represents Jesus sharing his 2,000 year gospel of salvation in the foreign land of the Gentiles throughout the world, Romans 9:24-25, Luke 2:29-32.

Moses second son Eliezer means, "The God of my father was my help, and delivered me from the “sword of Pharaoh,” Ex 18:4. Jesus was judged for our sins and after 3 days was delivered from death (the sword of Pharaoh) by his Father, Psalms 16:10, 88:2-12. And those who are circumcised in their hearts by faith in Jesus are also delivered from death (the sword of Pharaoh) which is eternal judgment in hell, Psalms 103:1-5.

The 2,000 year gospel age represented by Moses two sons that were born from his Gentile wife may be difficult to recognize in this story, however there are 20 other stories in the Bible that confirm there will be an approximate 2,000 year gospel age from Jesus resurrection to the beginning of the tribulation.

Two sons are born to Joseph and his Egyptian wife in the 7 years of harvest
During the 7 years of harvest in Egypt, Joseph's Gentile bride gave birth to Manasseh and Ephraim. The 2 sons that were born to Joseph in the 7 years of harvest is another picture for the 2,000 year gospel age to the Gentiles that will be completed during a 7 year final harvest of saints when the 7 years of tribulation (7 years of famine) is about to begin, Genesis 41:29-32.

Joseph's first son Manasseh means, "God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father's house," Gen 41:51. Joseph suffered incredible hardships in his fathers house when his brothers plotted to kill him, threw him into a pit and then sold him into slavery for 20 shekels of silver.

These hardships that Joseph suffered are prophetic for the religious leaders of Israel who plotted to kill Jesus and demanded his crucifixion, his resurrection after three days (Joseph coming out of the pit), and Jesus becoming a gospel servant to the Gentiles for 2,000 years represented by the 20 shekels of silver that was paid when Joseph was sold into slavery when he became a servant in Egypt, Genesis 37:28.

The name of Joseph's second son Ephraim means, "God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction." Joseph was fruitful and blessed with 2 sons in the land of his affliction in Egypt, just as Jesus is fruitful and blessed with many Gentile sons who are afflicted and persecuted for his namesake as his gospel is proclaimed for 2,000 years throughout the world in spiritual Egypt, Genesis 41:52, Luke 2:29-32, Matthew 24:9, Revelation 6:9-11.

Jacob prophesied Ephraim will become 'a multitude of nations' Genesis 48:19. A multitude of nations in Hebrew is 'melo hagoyim,' translated as 'fullness of the Gentiles' that Paul uses in Romans 11:25.

"For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in."

The 2 sons born to Joseph during the 7 years of harvest are symbolic for the 2,000 year Gentile harvest of saints that will be completed as the 7 years of tribulation begins for Israel.

3 historic Passovers of God's salvation for Israel;
Egypt, the Cross and Israel's deliverance in the tribulation,
  • In Exodus 4:21-26, The first Passover is easy to recognize when the Lord told Moses to go Egypt and perform the 10 plagues of judgment while telling Pharaoh, "Let my firstborn son Israel go that he may serve me."
  • The second Passover when Jesus died on the cross for our sins is hidden in the account of Moses and his uncircumcised son who lodged when God “sought to put him death” on his journey to set Israel free from their slavery to Pharaoh.
  • Moses Gentile wife Zipporah who said twice, “you are a Bridegroom of blood” because of the circumcision, appears to be symbolic for the Gentile bride of Christ who shares the 2,000 year gospel that circumcises our sinful hearts through faith in Jesus when he became our Bridegroom of blood on the cross.
  • And the third Passover is a repetition of the first one in Egypt, when a remnant in Israel will be set free from their slavery to sin and the Antichrist in the tribulation (in symbolic Egypt, Rev 11:7-8), by faith in the blood of God's Passover Lamb who lodged in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago, when the Father 'sought to put Jesus to death' on the cross for our sinful uncircumcised hearts that are are guilty of death.
  • What has been (in the past) is what will be (in the future) and there is nothing new under the sun, Ecclesiates 1:9
Israel will be regathered from the nations and
circumcised in their hearts through faith in Jesus at the end of the tribulation
Deuteronomy 30:1-7 "And when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the LORD your God has driven you, (2) and return to the LORD your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul, (3) then the LORD your God will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where the LORD your God has scattered you. (4) If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there the LORD your God will gather you, and from there he will take you. (5) And the LORD your God will bring you into the land that your fathers possessed, that you may possess it. And he will make you more prosperous and numerous than your fathers. (6) And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. (7) And the LORD your God will put all these curses on your foes and enemies who persecuted you.

Ezekiel 36:24-28 I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. (25) I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. (26) And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. (27) And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. (28) You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

In the articles listed below I examine the scriptures that seem to be pointing to the years of 2031 to 2038 for when God's tribulation judgment will take place.

Is the year when the tribulation ends written in scripture?
Part 2, 2 days, 7th hour, 38
Part 3, 2-38

Part 4, Genesis 14:14, 17:17, Exodus 7:7, John 5:5
Part 5, Psalms 83 & 90

Part 6, Isaac's birth from Sarah at 90
Part 7, Isaac's birth from Sarah at 90

Thanks for the information. The person who becomes the Antichrist, when he goes into the temple, sits, and claims to be God, it will be breaking the Mt. Sinai covenant, that he will have confirmed for the 7 year cycle (Daniel 9:27) as required by Moses in Deuteronomy 31:9-13, around three years earlier.

Why the information about Moses or his son, was to be cutoff (from the Israelite people) for not being circumcised (uncircumcised) is informative to me, is that when the Antichrist person commits the 2Thessalonians2:4 act - God has him killed for committing the act - called the transgression of desolation in Daniel 8:12-13.

The death of one uncircumcised is prophesied in Ezekiel 28:1-10, as to happen to the Prince of Tyre (a code name for the revealed man of sin person).

Ezekiel 28:1 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:

[my comment, the above goes back to Daniel 8:25 about "magnifiying himself in his heart". The person will think he has achieved God- hood]

3 Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:

4 With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:

5 By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches:

6 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God;

7 Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness.

8 They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas.

9 Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slayeth thee.

10 Thou shalt die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.

Dying the death of the "uncircumcised" will be because the person will be a Jew, but breaks the Mt. Sinai covenant - by claiming himself to be God.

Which, when he finds his soul in hell in Isaiah 14, and is brought back to life, figuratively cast out of the grave, he is likened as an abominable branch (compared to Jesus the righteous branch descended from David) because he destroys his land and slays his people, it says.

Isaiah 14:19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.

20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

Brought back to life, he will be the mortally wounded, but healed head (the 7th head) on the beast in Revelation 13. He will no longer be the Antichrist, king of Israel (unapproved by God), cutoff from his people, but the beast - 8th king of the Roman Empire (in the end times a form of the EU).

The 7 kings of Revelation 17:10 are...

Julius Caesar
Augustus Caesar
Tiberius
Caligula
Claudius
Nero

little horn person (king 7) forthcoming
(becomes the Antichrist for awhile)
beast - king 7 slain, brought back to life, as the 8th king (Revelation 17:11)

The person will be a Jew, descended from David. And also descended from the Julio-Claudian bloodline, unless it is speaking in functional terms as king of the Roman Empire.

I provide a chart I made below in my next post on the person going from being the little horn, to becoming the Antichrist for a while, to being killed (the death of the uncircumcised), to becoming the beast.

Since Moses Gentile wife was the one who circumcised her son, some Bible teachers believe Zipporah did not want her son to be circumcised, but she finally gave in when God said he was going to kill “him.” Now what's puzzling in this story is the scriptures do not specifically say who the Lord was going to kill, instead it just says “him,” which could either be referring to Moses or his uncircumcised son.
I read somewhere (in an extra-biblical text), that Moses had dedicated his first son to his father-in-law, which was the reason for this son's uncircumcision, and the reason Zipporah only needed to circumcise one boy. If true, the uncircumcision was tolerated whilst Moses lived under his father-in-law's roof, but not when he and Zippy moved out (at the lodging place). I think this fits better with Zipporah's quickness to circumcise when required, and her blaming Moses for it not being done (hardly fair if she had been the one preventing a circumcision).

And another strange detail is why was the son's foreskin placed on the feet Moses?
Even though women and men are equal, circumcision is still more a father's job than a mother's? It was symbollic of Moses' involvement.

And why did Zipporah call Moses a “bridegroom of blood” two times because of the circumcision?
Zippy saved Moses' life. Also, she probably would have preferred not to have to done the circumcising herself, even though mohelets today use her as their biblical example and role model.

Jeremiah 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD; remove the (sinful) foreskin of your hearts, O men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of the evil of your deeds."
Also of note is that the sin nature is inherited through Adam (the male line), and only males have foreskin and therefore could undergo circumcision.

When people try to say the bible is sexist, and make out that circumcision was an elitist ritual for men, I think this passage proves such claims wrong.

Dougg,
In the story of David there is a hidden timeline of the cross when Satan was defeated, followed by the 2,000 year gospel age, and then the tribulation when the Antichrist (Saul) persecutes the Jesus and his saints (David and his men) followed by the death of he Antichrist at the end of the 7th year of tribulation.

The reason I mention this story is because Goliath is called an uncircumcised Philistine, who is a type for Satan when he was defeated at the cross by Jesus.

1 Samuel 17:10 And the Philistine said, "I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together."
1 Samuel 17:16 For forty days the Philistine came forward and took his stand, morning and evening.

The 40 days that Goliath (the uncircumcised Philistine) challenged any man in Israel is symbolic for 4,000 years from Adam when Satan defied any man in Israel to challenge him. And Jesus came from the armies of the living God to accept this fight for Israel, 1 Sam 17:26.

1 Samuel 17:26 And David said to the men who stood by him, "What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?"

Jesus the chief cornerstone, by one sacrifice (one smooth stone) defeated Satan on the cross when he crushed his head (just as Goliath's head was crushed by David) as the Lord's heel was bruised, Genesis 3:15.

1 Samuel 17:40 Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones (5 represents grace) from the brook and put them in his shepherd's pouch. His sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.

1 Samuel 17:49-51 And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground. (50) So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David. (51) Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

The sword in scripture is a type for the word of God and the scriptures also say by your own words (your sword) you will be justified or condemned.

Matthew 12:37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

Later David brings 200 Philistine foreskins to Saul so he can receive his bride. This is symbolic for the 2,000 year gospel that circumcises the Gentile saints so Jesus can have his bride.

After this Saul in rebellion to God, tries to kill David and his 400 men (symbolic for tribulation saints) and David became captain (King) over the 400 men. Saul represents the Antichrist persecuting the saints in the tribulation.

Then in a losing battle Saul commits suicide by falling on his own sword (Mat 12:37). And the men of Jabesh recover Saul's body and then burn it. Saul is a type for the Antichrist whose own words (Saul falling on his own sword) judge him guilty of sin and death when he is thrown into the lake of fire. After this Israel fasted for 7 days.

At the end of the 7 years of tribulation on Yom Kippur is when the nation of Israel fasts when their sins are forgiven.

So in this prophetic timeline revealed by the life of David, the uncircumcised Philistine who mocked Israel 40 days is another type for Satan and his defeat at 4,000 years from Adam. And the uncircumcised Philistine (Satan) is similar to the Antichrist represented by the uncircumcised king of Tyre, Ezekiel 28:10.

Moses father-in-law sounds like a good possibility for the son who was not circumcised.

But the important reason why the son had to be circumcised at the time when Moses lodged, is to reveal the prophecy that Jesus would have to die on the cross when he lodged in Jerusalem, so Jews and Gentiles could be circumcised in their hearts before the Lord returns to save Israel from their slavery to sin and the Antichrist in the tribulation (in spiritual Egypt).

I also forgot to mention an important symbolic picture that is being revealed when Zipporah circumcised her son. I just edited my post with this latest update.

And Moses wife Zipporah who circumcised her son with the sharp flint stone, represents the bride of Christ who shares the gospel of salvation that helps to spiritually circumcise a sinners heart with the sharp two-edged sword of the Word of God that separates flesh from spirit, Hebrews 4:12.

God's prophetic stories will often have several layers of prophecy hidden within them. And this is an important detail that I forgot to mention regarding the bride of Christ (Zipporah) as they share the sword of the gospel with those who are lost and spiritually uncircumcised in their hearts.

Very interesting symbolism, most of which I can say I agree with, now that it's pointed out for me.

I'm not sure I agree about the numbers, though. Like, 200 foreskins for 2000 years? Lol. I can understand foreskins representing sin or something like uncleanliness, but I think it would be something less offensive if it was simply representing years.

Here is something to consider. David killed 200 Philistines so he could get their foreskins for his bride. And the scriptures say the natural is a picture for the spiritual.

1 Corinthians 15:45-46 Thus it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. (46) But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.

When we accepted Jesus as our Savior our heart was circumcised of our sinful flesh by the spirit. However in God's eyes our sinful flesh had to be put to death through Jesus on the cross so our sins could be cutoff, or circumcised. So spiritual circumcision of our heart requires the death or cutting off of our sinful flesh so Jesus can have his righteous bride.

And the death of 200 Philistines so David (a type for Jesus) could get their foreskins for his bride is a natural picture that represents the believing Gentiles who had their sinful flesh cut off (circumcised) and killed on the cross, so Jesus can have his 2,000 year righteous Gentile bride.

Then after David received his bride for 200 Philistine foreskins, Saul tries to kill David and his men, which is picture for the tribulation. Then Saul (the Antichrist) dies and Israel fasted for 7 days, which is a hidden clue for the 7 years of tribulation.

This story is a deeply hidden type for the 2,000 year gospel age followed by the tribulation. And you can see without revelation from the Spirit this prophetic picture will remain hidden from the majority of Christians today. And as I have said there are 20 examples for a 2,000 year gospel age in scripture and I strongly believe it will be 2,000 years from Jesus resurrection before the tribulation begins.

At first I may not see a spiritual truth in scripture, but when I look at the same story a second time with revelation from the Spirit, God opens my blinded eyes and only then can I see and understand what he is saying.

So I agree at a first look it is difficult through our human reasoning to see how 200 Philistine foreskins could represent the 2,000 year gospel age.

Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. (9) For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Scripture must be used to interpret scripture. In scripture, foreskin is symbolic of the sinful nature and possibly uncleanness, so generally carries a negative connotation. Time is a neutral aspect, and as foreskins don't represent time in any other passage, it seems a forced interpretation to say a foreskin is representative of 10 years in this one.

Then after David received his bride for 200 Philistine foreskins, Saul tries to kill David and his men, which is picture for the tribulation. Then Saul (the Antichrist) dies and Israel fasted for 7 days, which is a hidden clue for the 7 years of tribulation.
Not saying I agree here, but this makes more sense. Days do sometimes represent years or periods of years in scripture, so to infer days here is representing time prophetically is not too long a bow.

So I agree at a first look it is difficult through our human reasoning to see how 200 Philistine foreskins could represent the 2,000 year gospel age.
As above. Where else in scripture is foreskin symbolic of something other than sin or uncleanliness?

Time is a neutral aspect, and as foreskins don't represent time in any other passage, it seems a forced interpretation to say a foreskin is representative of 10 years in this one.
Listed below are 21 possible examples for a 2,000 year gospel age. In these examples the 2,000 year gospel age is represented by two whole years, 2 days, 2,000 pigs, two demon possessed men, 20 pieces of silver, 2,000 cubits, 20 years, 2 sons born to Moses and Joseph, 200 denari, 200 cubits and 2 pence.

Job 33:14 For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it.
  1. Joseph is falsely accused, stripped of his garments and meets the cupbearer and baker in prison (Jesus is falsely accused, stripped of his clothes and crucified with two thieves). The cupbearer is released from prison after 3 days and Joseph is a prisoner for another "two whole years" (the gospel of salvation is proclaimed for 2,000 years, Jesus became a prisoner of the cross to set us free from our prison of sin and death). Joseph is released from prison to interpret Pharaohs dream and says there will be a 7 year harvest (of saints, Rev 14:15) followed by 7 years of famine (7 years of tribulation, Rev 14:19-20, Joel 3:13-14). Gen 39, 40, 41

  2. Jesus reveals he is the Messiah to a Samaritan woman and stays with the Samaritans (half Jew half Gentile) for 2 days, and the Samaritans believe Jesus is the Savior of the world (a 2,000 year gospel to the Gentiles). After two days Jesus returns to Galilee and he heals an officials son who is at the point of death in the 7th hour, (Jesus returns and saves Israel who is at the point of death in the 7th year of tribulation ) John 4:1-54.

  3. The apostle Paul preaches the gospel to the Jews and they reject it. Paul then says this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, they will listen. Paul proclaims the gospel to all who come to him for "two whole years" (a 2,000 year gospel is preached to the Gentiles) Acts 28:16-31.

  4. Jesus and the disciples leave Galilee and go to the area of the Gadarenes where the Gentiles live. He delivers a legion of demons out of "two possessed men" and sends them into 2,000 pigs that dive into the sea (after the 2,000 year gospel to the Gentiles, Jesus casts the demons into spiritual swine in the tribulation and the unbelievers are cast into lake of fire) Mat 8:28-34, Mark 5-1:20.

  5. 1st day, John 1:23, 2nd day John 1:29, 3rd day John 1:35, On the 4th day, John 1:43, (at 4,000 years from Adam) Jesus said to Phillip, follow me. After this Jesus is not seen for 2 days (a 2,000 year gospel) and on "the third day" (prophetic for the tribulation in the third millennium from the cross) Jesus and his disciples attend a wedding banquet, John 1:23-2:11.

  6. Joseph at the age of 17 is thrown into a pit by his brothers and brought out (Jesus is crucified and resurrected 3 days later on the 17th). Joseph is sold as a slave to Egypt for "20 pieces of silver" (Jesus becomes a gospel servant to the Gentiles for 2,000 years). Joseph begins to rule under Pharaoh at the age of 30 and is put in charge of collecting and distributing food during the harvest and famine. After 7 years of harvest Joseph is 37 when the 7 years of famine begins. In the beginning of the famine Joseph's brothers come to Egypt for food and he reveals himself to his brothers who plotted to kill him "20 years earlier" (In the 7 years of tribulation Jesus will reveal himself to Israel, his brothers who crucified him 2,000 years earlier) Gen 37, Gen 41:46-45:28.

  7. Isaac is married at 40 (at 4,000 years from Adam, Jesus is resurrected and betrothed to his disciples) and becomes a father when he is 60 (after 2,000 years Jacob, also known as Israel, is born-again in the tribulation) Gen 25:21-26 .

  8. Goliath challenges Israel to fight him for 40 days and he is slayed by David (at 4,000 years from Adam, Satan who confronts Israel is slayed by Jesus on the cross). David gives Saul 200 Philistine foreskins and receives his bride (a 2,000 year gospel of circumcision of the heart by the Spirit gives Jesus his Gentile bride). Saul kills himself in battle by falling on his own sword and Israel fasts for 7 days (the Antichrist is defeated by his own sin at the end of the 7 year tribulation when the nation of Israel fasts on Yom Kippur). 1 Sam 17:4-51, 1 Sam 18:25-29, 1 Sam 31:1-13

  9. After sitting for 3 days and 3 nights, the ark of the covenant is lifted up and stops the waters of the Jordan river so Israel can enter the promised land on dry ground (Jesus resurrection after 3 days and 3 nights opens the doorway to enter God's kingdom). Israel follows Joshua into the promised land 2,000 cubits downstream from the ark and then fought the 7 day battle for Jericho (2,000 years after the resurrection that opened the door to God's kingdom is when Israel is in the 7 years of tribulation). Joshua 1:1-2, 11, 3:1-17, 6:1-25.

  10. Esau the firstborn son, gave his birthright to Jacob. (Jesus the firstborn son gave his birthright of righteousness to Israel on the cross) in exchange for Jacob's bowl of red stew (Jesus received God's wrath on the cross for Israel's sin when he shed his blood, Jacob's red stew given to Esau). Esau was given the name Edom which means red (Jesus became red on the cross when he shed his blood for the sins of mankind, Isa 63:1-9). Jacob flees in fear from Esau and works for Laban 20 years for his 2 wives and flocks (a 2,000 year gospel period). Jacob leaves Laban and wrestles with a man through the night and is given the name Israel (the Jews who wrestle with God and do not let go are called Israel, born-again at the end of tribulation's darkness, Gen 32:24-28). On the way to meet his brother, Jacob bows down 7 times in fear and respect just before he sees Esau face to face for the first time in "20 years" (after 7 years of tribulation Israel in fear and respect will bow down to Jesus for the first time in over 2,000 years). Jacob sees Esau and says seeing your face is like seeing the face of God (Israel sees their older brother Jesus who is the face of God) Gen 25:29-34, 27:41-45, 33:10

  11. When Israel was in slavery to Egypt, Moses at the age of 40 kills an Egyptian who is beating a Hebrew. (4,000 years from Adam). Moses then flees to Midian and marries a Gentile woman and has "two sons" (a 2,000 year gospel age to the Gentiles). Moses (a type for Jesus) is told by God to return to Egypt and set Israel free from their slavery to Pharaoh (a type for the Antichrist) after the 10 plagues. 8 of the 10 Egyptian plagues are repeated in the tribulation when Israel will be set free by God from their slavery to sin, Satan and his Antichrist at the end of the 7 years of tribulation. Ex 2:11-25, 3:1-4:23, 7:1-12:51

  12. Hosea 6:1-2 "Come, let us return to the LORD; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up (the cross and the resurrection and Israel is scattered among the nations). (2) After two days (after a 2,000 year gospel) he will revive us (Jesus brings his people back to nation of Israel); on the third day (at the end of the tribulation Israel is saved) he will raise us up that we may live before him (the nation of Israel is saved to serve the Lord).

  13. Exodus 19:10-11 the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments (11) and be ready for the third day. For on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.

  14. Two sons are born from Joseph and his Gentile wife during the 7 years of harvest. The two sons represent the completion of the 2,000 year gospel during a final 7 year harvest of saints.

  15. After Judah showed the bloody coat of Joseph to his father Jacob, Judah has 2 sons that die (2,000 years) and his 3rd son lives (Israel in the tribulation is saved) then Tamar gives birth to Perez (a type for Israel's salvation ) and Zerah (return of Christ)

  16. 46 years to build the temple is cryptic for 4,000 to 6,000 years from Adam when the temple, the saints are raised from the dead in the 3rd millennium, Jesus will rebuild the temple in 3 days.

  17. In John 6:7, Phillip said to Jesus, “200 denarii would not buy enough bread for everyone to eat.” A denarius was a days wage and in this story 200 denarii represents the efforts and works of man for 2000 years would not be enough to give the bread of the gospel to feed everyone in the world so Jesus miraculously multiplies the bread of the gospel.

  18. The disciples were 200 cubits from Jesus on shore when they caught 153 fish. The 200 cubits represents 2,000 years and the 153 fish represent the saints caught during a 2,000 year gospel age. "Sons of God" has a gematria of 153 and "Passover" has a gematria of 153.

  19. The good Samaritan paid 2 pence for an injured man. The 2 pence represents 2,000 years.

  20. The Tabernacle of Moses, it Measurements and Dimensions
Jesus in the Tabernacle Bible Study - An Introduction and Overview

    Outer Court
    50 Width + 100 length = 300 cubits x 5 height= 1500 cubits
Prophetic of Moses to Jesus--1500 years.

    Inner Court or Holy Place
    10 Width x 20 length x 10 height = 2000 cubits
Prophetic of 2,000 year church age

Holy of Holies or Most Holy Place
    10 Width x 10 length x 10 height= 1000 cubits
Prophetic of the 1000 year millennium reign

  21. Simeon and Anna the prophetess, two people represent the 2000 year age. Simeon spoke about Jesus who would be a gospel light to Gentiles, while Anna spoke to all about the redemption of Jerusalem to come in Luke 2:38, which is a clue for 2038 when Jerusalem will be redeemed by Jesus at the end of the tribulation.

So why did the LORD “seek to put him to death” when Moses and his family lodged on their way to Egypt, shortly before he was to perform all the miracles that God put in his power to set Israel free from their slavery to Pharaoh?

In this most peculiar and puzzling story, Moses, his Gentile wife Zipporah, and their two sons were on their way to Egypt, and while they lodged one of their sons was uncircumcised and the scriptures say the LORD met him and “sought to put him to death,” Exodus 4:24.

Genesis 17:14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."

And another strange detail is why was the son's foreskin placed on the feet Moses? And why did Zipporah call Moses a “bridegroom of blood” two times because of the circumcision?

These details are difficult to understand and make no sense whatsoever. However it appears these statements may be suggesting there is a deeper spiritual and prophetic explanation that's hidden within this unique and perplexing story.

In Exodus 4:24, the Lord who “sought to put him to death” is an uncertain phrase that could either be referring to Moses who was responsible and should be put to death for his uncircumcised son, or the son was to be put to death for his sin of not being circumcised in his flesh, Genesis 17:14.

However “sought to put to him death” in the spiritual appears to be a prophecy for the Father in heaven who “sought to put Jesus to death” on the cross for our sinful uncircumcised hearts that are guilty of death, Galatians 2:19-20, Acts 7:51, 2 Corinthians 5:21.

Zipporah put her son's foreskin on the feet of Moses and called him a bridegroom of blood
The foreskin of the circumcised son that was placed on the feet of Moses is symbolic for the sins in our heart that are circumcised by the Spirit and placed on the feet of Jesus by faith when we accepted him as our “Bridegroom of blood” who died on the cross for our sins, Jeremiah 4:4, Romans 2:28-29, Luke 22:20, 1 Corinthians 15:46.

Remove the foreskin of your hearts men of Judah, lest my wrath go forth like fire
Jeremiah 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD; remove the (sinful) foreskin of your hearts, O men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of the evil of your deeds."

Deuteronomy 10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn.

After Moses son was circumcised the Lord “let him alone”
After the son's foreskin was placed on the feet of Moses the Lord “let him alone” from his judgment of death. The phrase “let him alone” is a hint that implies resurrection and a new birth in Christ. After Jesus died for our sinful uncircumcised hearts he was resurrected from the dead along with along with his future born-again saints who are “let alone” by God's judgment of death since all of our sins were placed on Jesus when he died on the cross.

The phrase “let him alone” is also similar to when Abraham raised the knife to kill his son Isaac when the angel said, “do not lay your hand on the boy.” This detail in this story is another symbolic example for Jesus resurrection, Genesis 22:10-13.

Moses lodged on his way to save Israel from their slavery to Pharaoh in Egypt
Moses and his uncircumcised son who lodged when the Lord “sought to put him to death” on his way to deliver Israel from their slavery to Pharaoh in Egypt, is a hidden prophecy for Jesus who lodged in Jerusalem when God “sought to put him to death” on the cross for our sinful uncircumcised hearts (Acts 7:51), on Christ's 2,000 year journey to save Israel in the tribulation who is a slave to sin and the Antichrist in spiritual Egypt (Revelation 11:7-8).

Revelation 11:7-8 And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that rises from the bottomless pit will make war on them and conquer them and kill them, (8) and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city (Jerusalem) that symbolically is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.

The 10 plagues in Egypt that set Israel free from their slavery to Pharaoh by faith in the blood of the Passover lamb that was applied to their doorposts, is prophetic for God's end-time tribulation judgments for unbelieving mankind and the Antichrist, so Israel can be set free from their slavery to sin by faith in the blood of God's Passover Lamb, who died when he “lodged in Jerusalem” almost 2,000 years ago, when God “sought to put Jesus to death” on the cross for our sinful uncircumcised hearts that are guilty of death, Deuteronomy 30, 1-7, John 1:29.

Two sons were born to Moses and his Gentile wife
while he was in Midian and separated from Israel
The two half-Jewish half-Gentile sons that were born from Moses and his Gentile wife Zipporah while he was in Midian and separated from Israel who was enslaved to Pharaoh in Egypt, is prophetic for the Gentile saints who are born-again during the 2,000 year gospel age while Jesus is spiritually separated from unrighteous Israel who is a slave to sin in the tribulation (in symbolic Egypt, Revelation 11:7-8).

The hardships that Joseph suffered in his fathers house are symbolic for the religious leaders of Israel who plotted to kill Jesus and demanded his crucifixion, his resurrection after three days (Joseph coming out of the pit), and Jesus becoming a gospel servant to the Gentiles for 2,000 years represented by the 20 shekels of silver that was paid when Joseph was sold into slavery when he became a servant in Egypt, Genesis 37:28.

Are the 3 Passovers of God's salvation for Israel;
Egypt, the Cross and Israel's deliverance in the tribulation,
hidden in the story of Moses on his way to Egypt to set Israel free from slavery?
  • In Exodus 4:21-26, The first Passover is easy to recognize when the Lord told Moses to go Egypt and perform the 10 plagues of judgment while telling Pharaoh, "Let my firstborn son Israel go that he may serve me."
  • The second Passover when Jesus died on the cross for our sins is hidden in the account of Moses and his uncircumcised son who lodged when God “sought to put him death” on his way to set Israel free from their slavery to Pharaoh.
  • Moses Gentile wife Zipporah who said twice, “you are a Bridegroom of blood” because of the circumcision, might be symbolic for the Gentile bride of Christ who shares the 2,000 year gospel that circumcises our sinful hearts through faith in Jesus, when he became our Bridegroom of blood on the cross.
  • And the third Passover is a repetition of the first one in Egypt, when a remnant in Israel will be set free from their slavery to sin and the Antichrist in the tribulation (in symbolic Egypt, Rev 11:7-8), by faith in the blood of God's Passover Lamb who lodged in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago, when the Father “sought to put Jesus to death” on the cross for our sinful uncircumcised hearts that are are guilty of death.
  • What has been (in the past) is what will be (in the future) and there is nothing new under the sun, Ecclesiates 1:9
Israel will be regathered from the nations and circumcised in their hearts
through faith in Jesus at the end of the tribulation in the 3rd Passover

There's more to that scripture than meets the eye, but not this complicated.

This story of Moses that's prophetic for Jesus death for our sinful uncircumcised hearts is deeply hidden in scripture, but its not nearly as complicated as the Bible codes are. Watch this video and you will see how truly complex and amazing God's prophetic Word is.
