"The phrase "God helps those who help themselves" is a motto that emphasizes the importance of self-initiative and agency. The expression is still famous around the globe and used to inspire people for self-help. The phrase originated in ancient Greece and may originally have been proverbial. It is illustrated by two of Aesop's Fables and a similar sentiment is found in ancient Greek drama. Although it has been commonly attributed to Benjamin Franklin, the modern English wording appears earlier in Algernon Sidney's work.

The phrase is often mistaken as a scriptural quote, though it is not stated verbatim in the Bible. Some Christians have criticized the expression as being contrary to the Bible's message of God's grace.[1] A variant of the phrase can also be found in the Quran (13:11).[2][3]'

Think about it. When we pray, not all of our prayers get answered. Its like GOD sometimes tells us no.

And if one of us is genuinely suffering and needs help, refusing to actually get that help can be heartbreaking.

I think praying is OK, but we also have to pick our own selves up and help ourselves out. Because GOD is not going to do everything for us like we expect HIM too. I know the Scriptures say to trust in him, but that can only get us so far...
We are the ones who must allow God to work through us! For verily, I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith, Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:23-24 Verily, in the Greek/Hebrew means that Jesus knows these things to be true, that he has personally demonstrated this absolutely. He tells US, that whosoever must Say, Believing those things which we say shall come to pass, this is knowing within us, absolutely! Likewise, he instructs us to pray, Asking, Believing we receive! So, everything works by Faith in the kingdom of God, which is found looking within! Glory to God! The scriptures, the Word of God is filled with Soo.. much power if we can only grasp what we are being instructed to Do! The Power of God is here today as in yesteryear, we must grasp that indeed God is working through us. So, yes, God does help those who help themselves but we must realize that God IS with US; we must live by faith and not by sight, looking to the unseen, callings things which are not as though they were! Then, what a wondrous world we shall discover!

Jesus relied on His Father in heaven for everything, and taught all of His permanent disciples likewise.
Jesus always obeyed His Father, and taught all of His Permanent disciples likewise, in complete and total harmony will ALL of His Word (Scripture).

The only way anyone can accomplish their own salvation, Jesus told the disciples, is they can't. As long as they trusted in themselves, they already failed (yes, from the start).
Then He told them, if you trust the heavenly Father to accomplish your salvation in this life and in the next, THEN is is ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED. Only the Father can accomplish this. When He Does, the permanent disciples then DO WHAT THE FATHER SAYS, and are justified. Those who even HEAR HIS WORD< but DO NOT DO what He Says, remain unjustified. It is required to be not just hearers of His Word, but Doers also. (Romans)

By His Word and Spirit, also, is the ONLY way to discern His Truth and His Spirit from all the enemy spirits/demons.

It is not a biblical phrase, and I would not apply it widely. Yet there are responsibilities for us. Most do not meet these responsibilities in this world. But for those that do, I believe that God does give blessing to the believers doing this and helps them in that.
