In a poll asking people what religion they were, over 50% of them answered they were Jedi Knights.

Either these people have a strange sense of humor (and I actually did laugh when I saw that), or if they really do believe that star wars is real, then they are of low IQ or something like that.

Star Wars is a fictional franchise. Its not real. THE FORCE, as it is called, is also not a real religion.

Our faith, however, is an actual and real religion. Wouldn't you believe something that is real versus something that is not real? Or can people not tell the difference between reality and fiction? Hhhmm....I just thought the answer they gave proved a lack of intelligence....somewhere.....

Growing up I did watch star wars and I was a fan of it at one point, but everyone must grow up sometime and acknowledge this stuff is not real, in the end. But GOD is. Is this what GOD meant when he said that in the end times everyone will be turned to fables? Because that is what star wars is, a mere fable.

Some thoughts prompted by your post, in no particular order.

1. Star Wars explores the themes of Good versus Evil, of temptation, of commitment to issues beyond ones petty personal issues. In short, the same themes addressed by many religions and by Christianity in particular. It is arguably difficult to find any of the ethical aspects of the Star Wars philosophy that are inconsistent with Christian ethics.

2. The parables of Jesus are, I think, acknowledged as symbolic tales that illustrate a point rather than "true" or "real" stories, so I think your puzzlement over people "believing" something that is not real is ill-conceived.

3. A technical correction on your view of Star Wars mythology: The Force is not a religion. The Force is an aspect of God.

4. Any poll that produces 50% respondents as identifying as Jedi Knights has either been targeted at a very narrow constituency, or has been very badly formulated.

Exactly. Substitute Christianity for the force. There are those who pursue the dark side, seeing Christianity as a tool to serve worldly man (in the same way the Pharisees expected a secular king or the Gentiles worked with Constantine) versus those who seek the Kingdom, the light side of the force. God even created the Tempter to test our skills as followers of Him.

The answer choices are provided by the pollsters. This isn't an indication of the seriousness of the respondent but the vapidity of the polling organization.

Those are the folks you want to ask to help push your car out of a snowbank !!

Or at least when you've crashed your X-wing into a swamp. Personally, I follow the Flying Spaghetti Monster and he's only useful when it's mealtime. :p

Its like that meme I saw which said, "Come to the dark side, we have cookies." Or some silly nonsense like that.

The Light Side has chocolate chip cookies. The Dark Side has oatmeal with raisins.
