President Donald Trump’s approval rating among active-duty military personnel has slipped over the last two years, leaving today’s troops evenly split over whether they’re happy with the commander in chief’s job performance, according to the results of a new Military Times poll of active-duty service members.

About 44 percent of troops had a favorable view of Trump’s presidency, the poll showed, compared to 43 percent who disapproved.

The results from the survey, conducted over the course of September and October, suggest a gradual decline in troops’ support of Trump since he was elected in fall 2016, when a similar Military Times poll showed that 46 percent of troops approved of Trump compared to 37 percent who disapproved. That nine-point margin of support now appears gone.

During that same period, the number of neutral respondents has dwindled from almost 17 percent to about 13 percent, suggesting political polarization inside the military community has intensified in recent years.

That’s okay (not that I believe it). In the end they will do as the CIC commands.

His numbers match up with his overall numbers among the general public but it seems with his attacks on the military, it would be lower.

Apparently, his intervention to save a war criminal from punishment really hacked off the troops, who take their oaths seriously.

They will, if they are the Americans they were when I served, will defend the Constitution.

When I was serving, we had people outside the services declaring that we would support Nixon if Congress impeached him. They were wrong then, too.

I’m talking duty, not politics. They’re job is to carry out orders, kinda like I’m doing today for my Boss. No big whup, and like I said they will do just that!

Yeah... being 58 you see this go up and down all the time. And we need to remember any decision Trump makes in cases like this "Military" people gave him that advice. He was never alone in it. I read one post by someone (not here) that the debt was all Trumps fault.

They were really upset when he pardoned a war criminal. It challenged order and discipline in the ranks, and even grunts don't like that.

He was never alone in it.

A minority of troops support him, but most don't:
Mr. Trump’s protections of Chief Gallagher, as well as his pardons of several other convicted and accused U.S. war criminals, appear to have stirred a considerable difference of opinion among service members. In a May flash poll of military service members, the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) found that most veterans (52%) either “strongly disagree” (39%) or “somewhat disagree” with the prospect of the president “issuing pardons for service members who have been convicted under court martial.” A sizable minority (40%), however, either “strongly agree” (23%) or “somewhat agree” with the pardons.
Does Trump’s Navy SEAL pardon undermine military justice?

I read one post by someone (not here) that the debt was all Trumps fault.

Trump is responsible for the deficits in his budget. Which are higher than they've ever been. That's his fault.

Their duty is to defend the Constitution. If Trump is convicted then their duty is to make sure that no one tries to unlawfully counter that.

Mere legalism, twisted to suit your cause. Like I said, they can gripe but in the end they will all FOLLOW ORDERS.

Barbarian cites the law:
Their duty is to defend the Constitution. If Trump is convicted then their duty is to make sure that no one tries to unlawfully counter that.

Mere legalism

That's the law. You might like it, or you might not like it. Doesn't matter. Learn to live with it.

Like I said, they can gripe but in the end they will all FOLLOW ORDERS.

How did that work out for Nixon? You see, the military trains their people to obey only lawful orders. It's part of the oath we took when we joined. (Yep, that "legalism" again.)

The vast majority of troops will remain loyal to the Constitution, and follow the law. It's what we swore to do.

Possibly a stadium full of college cadets is not representative of the troops actually serving. I suppose you could argue that Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans are lying, but I'd want to see your evidence against our troops first. What do you have?

Would be very interesting to see what the real reasons are behind this considering he's supporting them way more than the last administration did. With more money for pay, equipment to do their jobs and fewer deployments to be away from their families??

I still know a few people in the service. And a lot of retirees. They are, having gotten some rank, generally conservative. But honor still means everything to most veterans. And they despise Trump's cowardly betrayal of the Kurds. I realize Trump is accustomed to throwing loyal people under the bus when it suits him, but we are not like that.

They weren't so happy about him pardoning war criminals, either.

It's something Trump will never understand. Honor. They have it, and he doesn't even know it exists.

And if you go back thru his polling history you will find Conservatives approval rating of him is close to 95%. What this poll tells me is either the poll was way oversampled one way or the political divisiveness that is affecting our country negatively is now pervading certain parts of the military or both.

Try again...

Well, let's take a look...

President Donald Trump's approval rating among Republicans has hit a "career low" after sliding 13 percentage points in just three months, according to a new poll.

The commander-in-chief still enjoys the approval of most Republicans, but satisfaction with his performance in office among the GOP dropped from a "career-high" 87 percent in July to 74 percent at the end of October, the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll has found.

The survey conducted by Langer Research Associates between October 27-30 also found that 67 percent of conservatives, a separate group to Republicans, approved of Trump's performance, a fall from 77 percent in July.

More than a quarter of Republicans and 32 percent of conservatives further said they disapproved of Trump's handling of impeachment proceedings when they were polled in the run up to the House vote to formalize the inquiry.

Well, not quite 95%. But you know that 83% of internet statistics are made up on the spot. Try again...
