The same sort of mindset that allows someone to kill someone else to steal $3, or because the other person disrespected them, or for a gang initiation, or for their religion, or whatever other "reason" they can dream up. They do it because they want to. There is no intelligible reason.

I think blathering about "hate crimes" in a murder case is stupid. I take same position as Gene Hunt in "Life On Mars":

I don't think "Mexican" is actually a race. Most of the Latinos I know are pretty much white. And I dislike the term :racist: in any case, since it has become a political term used to primarily characterize people whose political positions we disagree with. How about we agree that running over random people with your car for whatever is an appallingly evil thing to do whatever your putative "reason" happens to be.

As for "hate", that's in the eye of the beholder. I don't want laws punishing thoughtcrime. Murder, on the other hand, is objectively definable, and provable. You can prove you didn't murder someone (I was in Latvia at the time...), you can't prove you didn't hate someone. And let's face it, if we start prosecuting everyone who hates someone else, we'll eventually all end in up the hoosegow.

And that's my problem with "hate crimes". Everybody is a racist except me and thee, and I ain't all that red-hot sure about thee. Subjective terms are easy to assign to anyone we don't like, and what's good for the goose may mean jail time for the gander if the gander lands on the "wrong" side of a political/social/religious/cultural divide. "Hatecrimes" is a subheading of "thoughtcrime", and we all know where that leads, or should.

So yeah, murdering folks is bad, whatever the alleged "reason" is. I'm a proponent of capital punishment, of giving the condemned sufficient time to repent, seek forgiveness, make such amends as they may to the loved ones of the victim, and then sending them on to their eternal reward in as humane way as we can manage. Let it be so in this case if the driver is convicted.

When the lady herself tells us why she did it, and it's a baldly racist reason, why don't we all believe her?

14 yr old child, walking on the sidewalk near her HS, not causing harm to anybody, left with injuries all over her body. Run over on purpose on account of racism. Sick. That police chief is right. That woman needs to be behind bars for a long while and she should have to pay for every cent of the girl's medical costs, as well as for punitive damages.

Apparently according to another source, she's also being held for assaulting a convenience store clerk for their race (not sure about that as I've not researched it yet) but no.. this woman needs to be jailed for her crimes..

No one wants to see this woman free.. or at least, I hope no one.. this woman obviously has issues that prevent her from being a productive non-dangerous member of society.

Around here, the black community are the usual perpetrators against Mexicans for that reason. They do it because the Mexicans are the usual perpetrators against blacks for the same kinds of reasons. Both of them overwhelmingly hate Trump. If you want to draw crazy conclusions I've got another one for you.

You did. You brought him into this, and it's really not called for. Someone posts about some violent racist running a car over a little Hispanic girl, and you bring Trump into it. There are plenty of degenerates and racists who don't support Trump, and you should know that.

But this woman is white, so those excuses don't work for her. She was apparently drunk and had committed some other crimes, so hard to say what was actually going on with her.

Alcohol doesn't make you do things you don't want to do. It makes you more likely to act on your impulses.

This woman aside from being racist might also be mentally ill. Let us pray for her repentance and rehabilitation, just as we pray for her victims so unjustly struck down by the manifestations of evil in the world.

Hopefully this woman will spend the rest of her life in prison. That might not be a particularly long time; people who do things like this to children usually don’t last long in prison. Yes, it is called prison justice.

We probably will never know what motivated her to commit such violence. she will now have to spend the rest of her life in prison.
