My new church is very contemporary. Our pastors dress casually, no vestments. They don’t wear their collars. The music is contemporary Christian with some older songs sung and played to contemporary music. We have screens on the walls. I really like it a lot, but I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Are your churches contemporary or traditional? Which do you prefer?

My church is traditional. The pastor wears the Alb and Stole for liturgical services and his collar when out and about. Our church does not use projection devices and uses the Hymnal (LSB). We will occasionally pull hymn from the older TLH its mostly the current hymnal. The organ is used to accompany though a piano is sometimes used for certain pieces. We follow the liturgy spelled out in the LSB typically #3 setting of the Divine Service. Most folks that visit think they have wondered into a Roman Catholic church except we all sing, lol.

For the record I prefer, no insist on traditional worship. I play guitar but would never think of jamming in front of the Altar where the Sacrament is given. The traditional hymns (and newer ones too) offer much better theology than CCM. Some of the hymns texts go back to the very earliest days of the church. Besides, I would take the best musically of the Lutheran tradition any day against CCM.

I am not totally against projectors in the church. I think they have a use but I would take pause before introducing something like that in a sacred space. In other words just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Just my two cents

We have screens in our church, but they basically serve as a digital bulletin. Doesn't detract from anything. We have traditional services (vestments, etc) and one contemporary service (pastor is still in a suit). Not my thing, but i know people do like it.

Exactly this for me.

My congregation is right in the middle and I’d been praying they’d become more traditional but it looks like they’re going to move even further to the contemporary end of the spectrum:(

My wife doesn’t like the change but its not a deal breaker for her yet. As for me I’ve started suggesting other congregations.

I’m obviously in the minority, preferring contemporary worship. I’m pretty sure that when I was looking for a new church home after Catholicism, if this church was traditional I wouldn’t have considered it.
On another note, I met a really neat lady yesterday at my new Bible study. She is a former Catholic nun who converted to Lutheranism. She was a nun from age 18 to her 30’s.

I am 60 plus year member of the WELS and I wouldn't haven't any other way. Our church is very traditional and very conservative.
Have you ever consider this- Do you go to church to worship God Almighty, or do you go for another reason, and if you do go for another reason then how will you be saved?
I know full well how I will be saved and it might even be soon.

by the way, I am a very old member here and was on staff for quite a while. I don't even know if any of my old friends are here anymore.

The first time I departed the LCMS I left because none of my local parishes were serving a traditional liturgy. They were all experimenting with the ghastly 'blended' service if not fully contemporary. I never saw an LCMS pastor wear a chasuble until we lived in S. Texas several years ago.

I had an experience with a contemporary worship service a couple of weeks ago. At the invitation of some friends, I attended a local Baptist church for the 'Family Christmas' program a couple of weeks ago. On the way home, my older daughter told me she loved it and asked when we could go back. She is 4. I know the people that put on these services justify them by saying its what the young people want; by which they mean teens and 20 somethings. Teens and 20 somethings are mostly ambivalent to church until they begin having children.

I can't blame you Shane. Without the traditional liturgy, hymns, and solid law and gospel sermons, what reason would there to attend such a service. As far as your daughter ang going to a Baptist service maybe you should ask God where is best for her? I know how important it is to raise small children, but He is the one ask for advice and help. Merry Christmas Everyone.
