Tommy Callaway Arrested, Charged After Assaulting Female Reporter on Air – USA Herald
As a general rule, people should make a habit of keeping their hands to themselves. This can prevent a plethora of avoidable issues; unfortunately for Tommy Callaway, he had to learn this lesson the hard way.

Callaway, a married, 43-year-old father, youth minister, and Boy Scout leader made headlines during his time at the Savannah, Georgia Bridge Run earlier this month.

News reporter Alex Bozarjian covered the event live as various runners passed her by.

For some unknown reason, Callaway decided that slapping Bozarjian on the rear end as he passed her by was appropriate. The footage of the incident shows the reporter clearly shaken and taken aback by what happened to her.

Due to Callaway’s actions, he is now facing a sexual battery misdemeanor charge. After authorities took the married father into custody, Callaway paid $1,300 in bail money, prompting his subsequent release.
tulc(thinks people keeping their hands to themselves is a good thing as well)

He shouldn't have done it but I believe what he says about being caught up in the moment with the silliness. in the video almost every one seems to be waving into her, almost touching her, acting silly, I'd be flinching left and right. He should have known better and it's not appropriate - I don't think he deserves a long sentence and to lose his job over this, however.

I guess in your opinion, laughing and having a good time includes allowing strangers to slap a person's rear end against their will.

Often the same excuses used for rape too. Was just harmless fun, boys will be boys, locker room talk, etc.

I have to say that outside of a group of friends in high school in which we mutually smacked each other around, I have never even once had a stranger run up and smack me in ANY place, and if they did, they would immediately be reported for assault. It's beyond ridiculous to consider such a violation as harmless.

And that was a very juvenile act perpetrated by a supposedly grown, married,?moral man.

Speaking of locker room banter, many of the people (which includes both men and women) I have encountered either online or IRL who have mocked this woman and defended the man also support Trump. I've seen many people blame her and fervently insist that the man didn't do anything wrong because he's a married Christian man and a young pastor. They insist it was harmless fun and the reporter is just playing the victim to get attention. Sadly, these people act as if women are nothing more than sex objects for men to touch inappropriately, whether on the backside and sexually grope whenever they want to. It's as if they think women have no other value of existence than that.

I would report anyone who did that to me too.

And to think that I just got informed in a different thread that "the right isn't misogynistic in the least."

Are you going to use the same excuse next time someone playfully draws a gun and hilariously points it at someone? "I didn't actually *murder* her...what's the big deal? She should have known I was just kidding around. These whiner snowflakes just can't take jokes these days."

I think this ordeal boils down to respecting other people and personal integrity. A man who respects a woman isn't going to do anything that would personally hurt her or make her feel uncomfortable. He isn't going to touch her inappropriately and then mock her when she objects to him touching her. If a man thinks of a woman as a sex object and treats her as such, then he should never be trusted or be respected himself. The same goes with how a woman treats a man. I think it's disconcerting that some Christians are insisting that slapping another woman or man on the backside is harmless fun.

We live in an overly sexualized and sexually immoral society and so in that regard, it isn't surprising to see this kind of nonchalant attitude about inappropriate touching or the inappropriate sexual behavior toward women. Sexual immoral behavior has especially infected the Church because 68% of Christian men (including pastors) are addicted to inappropriate contentography. There are scandals involving Protestant church leaders and Catholic priests sexually molesting children. And in that regard, it's not surprising to hear some Christians excuse this married youth pastor's inappropriate touching of the female reporter.

The fact that some people are actually defending this man's behavior is appalling.

I don’t think he should have touched her inappropriately like he did but to get arrested is a bit much too. A simple pay a fine or appear in court would suffice.

According to the web site of the Equal Opportunity Office of the University of Georgia (Georgia Criminal Code Definitions | UGA Equal Opportunity Office), Georgia law defines sexual battery thus:

(a) For the purposes of this Code section, the term ‘intimate parts’ means the primary genital area, anus, groin, inner thighs, or buttocks of a male or female and the breasts of a female.
(b) A person commits the offense of sexual battery when he or she intentionally makes physical contact with the intimate parts of the body of another person without the consent of that person.”

The runner committed this act on camera.

For those who think this ought not be a crime, the appropriate recourse would be to lobby the state of Georgia to change the law.

This is why I prefer to keep my hands to myself unless I am certain that person is comfortable with me.

I remember back in high school, there was a "Butt Slapping Day" created by the students. One girl slapped my butt as I was going through my locker. I glared at her after she did that. You wouldn't have stuff like that anymore because of the current culture.

Dang, I should have gone to that high school... :(
