Alabama candidate's ad goes viral as she calls for a conservative 'Squad' to fight socialism

"We need somebody who can convince my generation and others that more government is not the answer. More government is the problem," Taylor told the "Friends" hosts.

"We are small-town Alabama and looking forward to representing the people of this district. [Socialism] concerns me greatly and that's why I'm running," said Taylor, arguing that the "country was founded on small business, and private citizens who can make a difference."

Taylor joined the race to replace Rep. Martha Roby, a Republican who announced in July she will not seek reelection.

Hi daisyday,

I have to agree, there's been a lot of talk about this supposed bugaboo of the dreaded SOCIALISM. I'm not even sure that there is any consensus as to what are and aren't socialist policies that we have or are contemplating in our society. Just the word 'socialism' has been picked up and is being touted as some terrible demon and it helps to foster more hate towards others.

If we believe that a government should provide a base level of income or services for all, rich or poor, we are considered to be a socialist. I'm ok with that. I look around at all of the developed nations of the world that live with some semblance of peace with other nations, and all of them have these socialistic government supports also. So, I have to ask, is this idea that 'socialism' is some feared bugaboo that should throw the fear of God into a nation of people, really the way it should be? Or, just as most other governments, should a national government over a body of people be there to see to it that everyone is provided a basic level of subsistence?

However, I think you're right in your understanding. It really isn't all about 'socialism'. It's about perceived government interference in the lives of the people. That's what the Tea party was all excited about, too.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

She should be worried more about anarcho-capitalism and corporatocracy than about socialism if she cares about small business and private citizens.

How is this different from the Tea Party?
In a sense, it's not; although the Tea Party is not operating specifically to combat Socialism. On balance, it does seem to me as though Candidate Taylor wants to reinvent the wheel.

If she can provide solid ideas supported by data, then I'd be happy to see her succeed in politics and in "[convincing] my generation and others that more government is not the answer." But if her stance is merely "More government is not what we need. ... We've got to get back to our fundamental values. Our freedom is at stake here," then she strikes me as little more than another lobotomized conservative preaching dogma and spouting buzzwords without understanding the problems as they exist in the real world.

"If we believe that A GOVERNMENT SHOULD PROVIDE a base level of income or services for all, rich or poor, we are considered to be a socialist. I am OK with that."

Ah, the fly in the ointment.

Ah yes, the drift was first from our country founded as a republic. Then the continued outcry became that which one eventually became accustomed to--& it went from their to democracy, where the 'American dream' could be achieved if one worked hard & achieved it .

Now the SLIDE is into socialism, where the outcry is those who obtained the American dream successfully should BY GOVERNMENT MANDATE & LAW FORCE YOU TO pay their fair share to others who have not worked for it rather than the free will offering to help others, which our country used to do regularly.

It is not something you work hard & earn, it is something demanded of you & it is a right of the government to take your hard earned money & forcefully by law redistribute it AS THE GOVERNMENT DECIDES what the money should be used for, contrary to the government of the people & by the people & for the people.

Where there is a concentrated structure of power, influence & wealth in the hands of a few people in government, there will be many crimes of extortion, murder & favors of wealth paid, etc. & still the people can no longer get ahead. The most recent example of this in history is the failed Venezuelan government.

Remember the overhaul by Hugo Chavez, of turning a democracy into a socialistic state controlled by the government. Here was the boasted pride of saying the country will become better under socialism. Now we see the horrific results of this failed socialistic project. They went as a country from a dictatorship to democracy to socialism & now back to an almost dictatorship government, with crooked election results & protest after protest. So much for making things equal & helping

Market Ponders The End Of Venezuela's Failed Socialist Project

Under the rule of the Socialists United Party, Venezuela has fostered the biggest migrant crisis in Latin America. Nicolas Maduro now presides over the largest failed state in the Americas. Other than Cuba, Nicaragua & Bolivia, no country in the Americas recognizes his presidency at the time he was elected this year. What was one of the largest oil reserves in the Americas, in the country’s once-proud oil giant, PdVSA, now has their defaulted bonds selling at 80% discounts.

"PdVSA is the owner of Citgo, a brand every American knows. Citgo, like the country that owns it, is being kept afloat by Russian and Chinese money, and maybe a few rolls of duct tape." Kenneth Raposa, senior contributor to Forbes

This situation has happened as a prime example in my own state. In the past people get tired of THE GOVERNMENT INTERFERING in businesses like the phone companies & MANDATING BY LAW (ever checked how many different federal, let alone state taxes have been levied without voter approval; it will astound you the number of them) TAXES WITHOUT REPRESENTATION & the approval of the voters--& using them for whatever the government decides.

That is why so many have abandoned their home phones & went to standard, inexpensive cell phones, where the extravagant taxes are not nearly present. Those who still pay for the most expensive cell phones are doing so because of the unjust taxes placed on them, making their prices so high.

The latest one, as I previously mentioned has to do with the now exorbitant taxing, again by the government, on license fees for vehicles, some have older vehicles that the license fees become more than the vehicle is worth!

In the past, when these abuses of government interference occurred, the people took advantage of the checks & balances that the founding fathers of our once republic government provided, by using the referendum & initiative process to bring sanity to an overspending government out of control. This happened a number of times in the past, especially on license fees, in the state i live in.

In fact one legislator put forth Initiative 601, which passed by the people for the people on stopping the government spending more than it took in. Within ONE YEAR the government went from being in the red to being in the black.

I remember it as I was a state worker & watched the overhaul of state government--cutting many administrative positions down to a reasonable number & holding departments to spending what revenues they had, rather than spending beyond what they had & having to pull out of the 'general' fund. Yet that lawful mandate no longer exists. Spending more than what is taken in has become rampant once again.

Oh by the way, that legislator went on to the US congress. In a short time there, this congressperson said what was done in the state I live in could not be done in WA, DC, because they would be found dead in an alley somewhere.

One of the greatest crises in the US is the social security fund, once THE largest fund of the government, which was not to be used for anything but that. What caused the crisis? Lack of money to cover the fund. How did this happen with Americans continuing to take their hard-earned money & putting it in?

The problem was NOT a lack of funds to run the program, the problem was ROBBERS IN CONGRESS who kept stealing out of the fund for years, to pay for whatever program they so chose to bail out. It wasn't a social security problem, it was a theft problem for so many years, to the point that it can no longer run solvent in the near future.

It was government bankrupting the supposed government of the people by the people & for the people. Representatives no longer represent their constituents but now whatever they deem is needed for party lines.

Now back to the state I live in. A new referendum in 2019, lowering vehicle license fees passed overwhelmingly by the people. Yet the government stepped in & stopped it from becoming law, because the excessive taxes, used for government chosen programs, was being threatened. It wasn't because the referendum wasn't LEGAL, but because the government decided it shouldn't be made law & stopped it.

The state I live in also has the 4th highest gas tax in the country next to California, Pennsylvania & Illinois. The current rate is 49.5 cents per gallon AND THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE FEDERAL TAX OF $.18 ON TOP OF THAT. The government is in the phone business, is in the gasoline business, is in the...etc.

So, where's that money going? The original purpose of a gas tax was to pay for road maintenance. Oregon became the first state in the country to implement a tax on gasoline to the tune of one penny per gallon. In some states, the gas tax increases automatically every few years due to inflation. As construction costs rise, governments turn to the tax to help pay for road projects.

The 18th Amendment in the state I live in restricts the money from fuel taxes to be used for "highway purposes," like bridges, road repairs, or traffic signal management & it includes the State Ferry System.

Therefore, using fuel tax money for other forms of public transportation would be illegal. Instead, states &municipalities draw from a number of different sources for public transit need, like federal money, private grants and then local taxes. In my state, that means property taxes, sales taxes & car-tab fees & exorbitant taxes on businesses. I know. I once owned a business.

In my locale, the GOVERNMENT was supposed to take 'set aside funds' & build structures for flooding. It wasn't done. As a result, 300-400 business owners confronted their legislators & county commissioners, etc. for their businesses & inventory being ruined after massive flooding occurred, including stopping the main freeway north AND south, adversely affecting many more businesses in many other counties. I was involved in that. New legislatures were elected & county commissioners removed.

I was involved in a state-wide survey of people & businesses who were affected by dept of ecology rules & regulations. I talked to business owner after business owner who were in the process of leaving the state I live in & doing business elsewhere.

Washington among most-taxed states

A study finds that the state I live in has the highest sales & excise taxes in the country. Despite having no state income tax, my state ranks a lowly #37 in a study on the best & worst states for taxpayers. WalletHub analyzed real estate, vehicle, income and sales and excise taxes. The state I live in also finished No. 29 for its level of property taxation.

The national debt just passed $22 TRILLION for the first time in 2/19, after being just half that a decade ago. In 2014 25.7% of the US population earned $100,000 or more, leaving 3/4 of Americans incomes below that! With the debt that high this year, almost $90,000 of every American pay is to go to paying that debt off.

3/4 of Americans would have to forfeit their whole year of income just to EQUALLY SHARE the burden of the government's excessive spending, leaving them nothing to live on or pay their bills. OH--never fear, socialism is here, the government will pay your income for the year, putting the national debt (do the math: $90,000 X 1.31 million FULL TIME workers (doesn't include part-time workers or seasonal workers, etc.) as of 11/19 {again government figures :) equals 117900000000 added to the national debt EVERY YEAR & it keeps going up!

This is the definition of INSANITY: doing the same things over & over again & expecting different results.

These things cannot continue. A collapse is coming. Are you prepared for it? Those who are in the know concerning economics are predicting it. The government now runs out of money every 1-4 years & simply legislates a bogus law & prints more money that has no backing behind it, so to fund the government.

HI mathetes,

Thanks for you response:
Ah, the fly in the ointment.

One of the hallmarks of a Democratic Republic, is that it is supposed to represent a majority position most of the time. So, while you proclaim that in the 1700's we established a government that allowed pretty much everyone to earn as little or as much as they wanted and each person had to stand on their own two feet or starve; it was a Democratic Republic that we established and the form of governance laid out allowed for changes in ideologies based on this majority rule form.

In the 1700's there was poverty and for those who couldn't afford to care for themselves, well they just died. They got sick and laid in bed until the angel of death came to collect them. In the 1800's we began to realize, as a nation, that we had some shared responsibility to care for those who couldn't care for themselves. Soup kitchens were established and a few places for the poor to gather were created. Especially in the larger cities. The Salvation Army came to America from Great Britain and the Red Cross kicked off in the 1800's.

People began to be reminded of the plight of the poor and defenseless through these foundations. There was an ideological shift from 'every man for himself', to 'we're all in this together'. Then the Great Depression hit and hundreds of thousands of people who never thought they'd be on the the needy end of the stick, found themselves on the needy end of the stick. Because of financial ruin, hundreds of thousands of people all across the nation were out of work, hungry, homeless and suffering.

This was the impetus for an entire overhaul of our self-centered ideology of 'I got mine, you get yours', to 'let's at least try to help those in need'. So, you are correct that the nation has gone through a metamorphosis of thinking about and caring for those in our nation that are less fortunate. However, because our government is a Democratic Republic and since the Great Depression people began to be concerned about the plight of the less fortunate, our governance has mirrored that change in ideology.

Some decry that such a thing has happened, but overall, all of the free and responsible nations of the world have also made allowance for caring for those less fortunate among their people. Gone, thankfully, are the days when a government would seek to just murder all of the less fortunate in order to create some 'super' race of people. We have accepted that Jesus told us the truth - we will always have the poor with us - and asks us, believers, to care for others. So, in this regard of caring for one another just as if we understood them to be created in the image of God just as much as you and I, national governments the world over, have taken up that responsibility to some degree.

Now, some decry that such ideas are socialistic, but I'm surprised when I hear Christians make such claims. Personally, I think it's great that our government, and other governments around the world, now understand that they govern and rule, and are there for...all the people within their borders. Not just the rich, the wealthy, the well-heeled well to do and the comfortable who have eked out a living from the land, but even those who haven't. Those for whom the brass ring just isn't quite within reach. The Great Depression brought about a lot of this 'new' thinking, because in those days, a lot of people who thought they had prepared and made it into the 'self-supported blessed', found out that they could be just as hungry; just as homeless, as those that they had long been pointing their bony fingers at.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

A Squad? As in, a group of people working together, pooling their resources and talents, in order to fight Socialism?

Hmmm... that's so crazy it just might work...

That is not the government. That is those following Jesus' commands and we have those same ones & more all across the US! However, many cannot even function in that capacity because the government regulations exclude them. It didn't use to be that way.

We have a situation recently where housing (20 units) has been paid for back in 2018, for homeless people, (they remain on the streets) yet here it is, almost 2020 and 14 are still in storage, costing money to keep them there each month.

Habitat's history

Habitat for Humanity, now all across the US & in 70 foreign countries, as a private non-profit organization started by Christians & given attention by former President Jimmy Carter, a Christian himself, models what is wonderfully one of the best programs for helping others. It is not government run & has helped more than 29 million people achieve strength, stability and independence through safe, decent and affordable shelter.

Allowing the government to do what Jesus told us Christians to do & leaving it to the government to decide will not stand at the judgment. And when that day comes this is what Jesus will be talking about to both separated groups, the sheep & the goats.

Matt 25:31-46 But when the Son of Man comes in His glory & all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him & He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats & He will put the sheep on His right & the goats on the left.

34Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

35‘For I was hungry & you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty & you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger & you invited Me in; 36naked & you clothed Me; I was sick & you visited Me; I was in prison & you came to Me.’

37“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry & feed You, or thirsty & give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger & invite You in, or naked & clothe You?

39‘When did we see You sick, or in prison & come to You?’ The King will answer & say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

41“Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil & his angels; for I was hungry & you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty & you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger & you did not invite Me in;

naked & you did not clothe Me; sick & in prison & you did not visit Me.’ 44“Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison & did not take care of You?’ 45“Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

The City of San Diego had a nice place for the homeless to set up camp but, most all didn't care for the camp rules. No fighting, stealing, drugs nor booze.

A few would enjoy a nice place to live but, it seems that most prefer it on the streets with no rules to be followed.

Abusing and using each other and the public.

I have been hanging out with and working with the homeless for many decades. True, a few good Christians out there but, most following the devil. Seems that once the devil gets a very tight hold it's hard for these ones to escape. Some will get occasionally sober for a while but, in time called back to the wild.

County Mental Health Hospital is on overload. Keeping most only for a 72 hour hold and then returning them to the streets.

No, it didn't start with the government offering such help, but as people's attitudes about helping others changed, so too, did that representative form of government change. I agree that it didn't used to be that way, but you'd have to go back at least 50-75 years to get to 'those days'. We also didn't use to have limited access highways and billion dollar fighter jets that the government paid for either. As a people we didn't use to believe that we had to wipe out 99% of the germs and bacteria that we come into contact with. However, my feelings on the issue are that I'd much rather my tax dollars went to help others than to kill others.

That's just my two cents worth.

God bless,

Hi MM,

What you describe is certainly a sad reality for any nation to address. Some group of people in pretty much every nation has a problem with providing for themselves. There is some group of people who are satisfied with living hand to mouth on the streets.

Now for the tough part. What's your solution? If you were king, how would you address such an issue? Let's go ahead and assume that most of them are under the control of Satan. Short of just lining them all up and murdering them to push them out of this life, do you have any ideas for solving this particular problem?

God bless,
In Christ, ted

Hi Ted! Thanks for your response & sharing your thoughts & opinions.

I agree that it didn't used to be that way, but you'd have to go back at least 50-75 years to get to 'those days'.

Actually not. Under younger Bush's presidency in 2002, he launched his 'faith-based initiatives.'

https://www.history.com/this-day-in...sh-announces-plan-for-faith-based-initiatives

But you are correct, since Roosevelt's New Deal implementation in the 1930's to seek to help get the country back on its feet after the Great Depression (my dad lived through those times & even had to go live with relatives as my grandparents couldn't feed all their children in the deep south), there was a fundamental shift in the government.

Roosevelt’s New Deal fundamentally & permanently changed the U.S. federal government by expanding its size & scope—especially its role in the economy.

Historians commonly speak of a First New Deal (1933-1934), with the “alphabet soup” of relief, recovery, and reform agencies it created, and a Second New Deal (1935-1938) that offered further legislative reforms and created the groundwork for today’s modern social welfare system.

The New Deal is often summed up by the “Three Rs”:
  • relief (for the unemployed)
  • recovery (of the economy through federal spending and job creation), and
  • reform (of capitalism, by means of regulatory legislation and the creation of new social welfare programs).
Roosevelt’s New Deal expanded the size and scope of the federal government considerably, and in doing so fundamentally reshaped American political culture around the principle that the government is responsible for the welfare of its citizens.

These were experimental programs at the time, instituted because drastic measures were needed 'at the time' to recover from the Great Depression. However, instead of being temporary, they have now expanded to the point of bankrupting our country & states failing to meet their budgets. This is not just in the US but in Europe & elsewhere.

The world is looking for a charismatic leader to bring peace in the world, broker a treaty in the Middle East & turn the world into a cashless economy. That is what the final antichrist will do & unite the world into a global economic unity. So in one sense, you are correct in that the US will turn wholesale into socialism & join the rest of the world into a one world economic system.

However, it is not in end-time prophecy so it will lose its power & influence as the once powerful nation in the world. It is no longer a Christian nation, one nation under God but a multi-cultural & religious social system of many religions, where Christianity is no longer influential in its working. God's judgments have been occurring on America for quite some time now, especially for the holocaust of abortion. The ground is crying out with the spilled blood of millions of innocent human beings & the time for more severe judgments is coming.

God have mercy! Repent & believe the gospel & faithfully follow Christ & boldly proclaim the good news. Love the Lord our God with all our hearts & minds & souls & with all our strength & love our neighbor as ourselves. That is what I am seeking to do.
