Hmmm, you have to admit that he fell short of saying "I am the greatest of all Presidents".

But it would be both reasonable and truthful to assume that historically speaking, even the greatest of all Presidents have not had a 100% approval rating.

And when you add that to the fact that most of the major press associations are not in favor of President Trump to begin with, it's easier to see and understand the source of the negativity that he is up against.
The source of negativity is Trump himself. If he had been a decent and humble guy, his approval rating would have been very high and he would not have to had faced Impeachment because he wouldn't have even thought to do all of the dumb things that he's done.

It is like waving a red cape in front of a bull....he gets the expected Pavlovian response every time........maybe we should start calling him "The Puppetmaster".....LOL
It never stops being funny, every time someone says this. To be honest, the only people President Trump seems to be able to successfully manipulate is his base.
tulc(suspects it's because no one like to admit they were conned so they pretend everyone around them are the ones be manipulated by the "puppetmaster") :D

Neither party has done much to discourage Trump supporters from voting for him again. Whyzat I wonder? Could it be that Trump is the lesser of three evils?

Well the Republicans don't because his base has proven over and over again that nothing he does or says makes the slightest difference, they'll support him because at this point it's become a religious doctrine for them. And no amount of evidence or facts will make someone abandon a religious doctrine, they have to decide for themselves to change their minds. And what Party doesn't love a group of people who will always do what you want them to do if you just play the right tune for them? As for the Democrats, they don't need his base, they need to get the "My vote wont matter!" crowd to vote for them, believe me, if they get those guys to vote, things will change in 2020.

"lesser"? They vote for/support him because he's the greater evil. They LOVE his foul mouth, his name calling, his lying and his inability to keep it in his pants. If they didn't? They wouldn't have voted for him in the first place. They wouldn't have supported him with an undying, unswerving loyalty and they wouldn't be so eager to try and get him re-elected in 2020. :sorry:
tulc(knows people may "vote for the lesser evil" but they don't KEEP voting and supporting it unless they've embraced that evil, no matter what excuse they have to tell themselves to justify their doing so) :sigh:

I must say tulc, you rarely show this much passion for a topic. Are you involved politically with a candidate? I would happily support a different Republican if a good one were to run. Failing that I will vote for Trump again.

His base supports him because 1. the dems have not offered any alternative that appeals to their political, social and economic beliefs and 2. because the repubs have not offered anyone else that appeals to their political, social and economic beliefs. Simple problems generally have simple solutions.

IIRC, when O'Rourke was up in the polls I didn't read about any dems complaining about his very PUBLIC use of very foul language during campaign appearances so your comment is sorta a pot vs kettle analogy. Outside of that see above answer.....

That was shown by the polls after the Planet Hollywood tape was released. Trump is caught boasting about how he gets away with sexual assault (and incidentally betraying his latest wife), and in the polls of his supporters, about 16% said they were more likely to support him because of what he said.

Well said. I think you hit the nail on the head. It's ironic that some conservatives seem to think that their judgmental finger pointing at Democrats will be taken seriously when they support Trump.

I actually was pretty nervous about my reaction in that post. I don't like jumping on the stump and declaiming things with waving hands and such. I'm too mid-west to feel comfortable about it. :sorry:
tulc(suspects he may have been a little low on coffee in his system then) :coffee:

Two points: 1) foul language and bad behavior helped President Trump get elected and politicians don't generally argue with success.
and
2) Beto isn't in the race any more, is he.
tulc(seems like only the "pro-family" Party supports politicians who use foul language) :sorry:

If any other president said it, it would be major news. But it's Trump, and as Mark Twain put it, such a thing with him is like spots on a hyena. No one really notices one more.
Bolding is mine.
Well, SOMEBODY noticed otherwise this thread would not exist.....just sayn'

Donald has also declared that windmills cause cancer & that folks flush 10-15 times. Of course he declared that he's the greatest POTUS of all time. Anybody who believes that claim probably believes the other 2 listed here, lmbo.

That's not to mention his gaffe that the Continental Army took over airports during the Revolutionary War or his desire to promote lasting peach in Israel or his hamberders and his smocking gun.
