THE ECUMENICAL HIGH ROAD

Definition of ecumenical
1a : of, relating to, or representing the whole of a body of churches
b : promoting or tending toward worldwide Christian unity or cooperation
2 : worldwide or general in extent, influence, or application

Since I’ve been preaching and defending the Gospel on the internet I’ve been awakened to the temporal value many put on the gospel. A value that appears righteous until that gospel is threatened under a fleeting popularity. This is when the persecution of the gospel changes into the “ecumenical high road”. A false high road submerged in a phony righteousness that abandons the power of the cross.

How will they defend the cross when everyone is against them? Will they defend the gospel when all that is left to comfort them is the love demonstrated on an old tree? Will they stand strong, or will they crumble under the solitude of a lonely hill? When the tide turns and the offense of the cross is barreling down on them, which path will they choose? I wish I could present some positive numbers, but my eyes have grown accustomed the popularity of the “ecumenical high road”.

This is the ROAD OF RETREAT! When the offense of the cross has been demonized as “intolerant”, “bigoted”, “narrow minded”, “dogmatic”, and “full of hate”. When the pressure of the majority overwhelms a person’s tolerance to stand firm for the blood that sanctified them. This ecumenical high road is nothing more than a scapegoat into a false righteousness, a false forgiveness, a false love, hope, peace and assurance that only leads away from the wisdom of Christ Crucified. This is the chosen path when persecution changes to compromise. When the Grace that set them free is rationalized for a feather in their cap, a pat on the back, praise from men, and an ecumenical spirit that abandons the POWER of a PERFECT FORGIVENESS! Shipwrecked on the shores of ecumenism they gloat and wallow in their compromise of the gospel, and the demons laugh as another victory has just fallen from Grace!!

Galatians 6:14
But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Grace and Peace...

the merging of the worlds religions is how the beast will be accepted as the universal leader. The only ones not tolerated are those who adhere to Jesus is the only way to salvation and preach that a person must be born again to be saved through the gospel of Jesus atonement on the cross and victory over sin and death by the Resurrection. Secular humanism is the sermon on the mount apart from the cross.

Read pilgrims progress and you'll find in this book over 300 years old the problem of trying to accomodate Christianity to the ways of the world.

We 'merely' have to live for Jesus regardless of the consquences.

A candle shines brightess in darkness.

Yes, I agree. Around my area new churches popping up all over with new trendy names. "Well Spring", "Life church", "thrive", "the connection", etc... And most no longer preach consequence of sin. If they even mention the word sin anymore...

Yeah, I've been preaching for more than 40 years now, and have come under attack numerous times because of my stance against the ecumenical movement. I've always had big shoulders because of the strength Christ has given to me to resist giving in to the worldly philosophy behind ecumenicalism. Jack van Impe caved to it long ago, as many others have done. They alone will answer for not only their own folly, but also having made ten times the sons of Hell those they proselytized onto that horrific roadway that is allegedly the compassionate and loving path.....which it is not.

Good post.

Thanks, I've been seeing the trend as well, especially in the last 10 years. New trendy church names "Well Spring", "Life church", "thrive", "the connection", etc... They don't like to mention the word "sin" because it might "offend" people. But if sin is no longer sin, than what did Chris die for?

The son of a friend of mine recently graduated from a Southern Baptist Semetary school, and he constantly hammers on sin at the exclusion of all else spoken of throughout scripture, especially at the exclusion of the many, many revelations pertaining to living by the Spirit, deliverance, sanctification, power, living holy lives, et al. In other words, he dwells on sin so much that his youth groups he was placed over having begun to feel like they're being beaten over the head with the stake of SIN driven through their hearts as if they were vampires.

As in all things, there must be balance as opposed to compromise and imbalance. In balance, we minister to people what is most needed in their lives. There is a time to hammer on sin, and a time to speak of grace like a flowing river of vitality to the soul. I think I recall Derek Prince one saying, "Human nature is such that, even though you may not believe what I'm saying, you believe what I'm saying, especially when I speak truth to a heart immersed in falsehood." That boy has had some sage advice offered his way. I only hope he will at least one day soon look back upon it all, and call upon the Lord for more.

I'm not sure what label I might best go by, but while I prefer the term 'inter-denominational,' I suppose some level of 'ecumenical' could apply to me as well. Does this mean that I'm a spiritual washout even though Jesus is my Lord and Savior? :dontcare:

It means don't waste your time on the things of this world and the many false doctrines that keep us from proclaiming Christ Crucified. Keep preaching and defending that precious love story that saved you from your sins! (((that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that He was buried, and that He rose again on the third day according to the scriptures)))

We have overcome the world in Christ Jesus. He has bestowed upon us a great mercy. Not a mercy crafted by human hands, but through the sacrifice of the Son of God. No feathers in our cap, no boasting in our hearts, just an unconditional love through the endless mercy of our God. Beyond accreditation, beyond striving, beyond intellect, beyond human doctrine, there a river of mercy that flows from the Cross where our Savior bled and died to buy our pardon! More than that, He has Risen!! The tomb is still empty!!

Our hands are not tied, the chains are broken, the cell doors have been opened, and the gates of Hell will not restrain the freedom and power of a child of God who knows “it is finished”!! Our overcomer has overcome and we are free!! Praise the Lord!!

1 John 5:4-5 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Let us go and tell the world of this WONDERFUL FORGIVENESS!!

Grace and Peace...

Well, since I've mainly affiliated with either Southern Baptists or the Christian Church/Instrumental (Disciples of Christ), I don't think I have much in the way of false doctrine to get tripped up by, brother. But thank you for your concern!

Those who have spent some time walking with the Lord know who the solution is, but to fully appreciate this "rescuer", and know the value of "Christ in us", we must also seek a deeper understanding of this wretched man. There is much to say on this topic, and I pray often that God reveals to us more of this wretched man. A deeper appreciation for salvation is only found in a deeper understanding of the WRETCHEDNESS of this old man!

The penalty of sin is not separate from the wrath of God, and this penalty was placed on the righteous lamb of God. “The chastisement for our peace was upon Him!" And because this man was Holy, our comprehension of the severity of this penalty is limited. Therefore the MAGNITUDE of LOVE given through this sacrifice is only found in the knowledge of how wretched our sinful nature really is!! So wretched that it was beyond repair and only fit to BE CRUCIFIED!!

O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! -Rom 7:24-25

So by faith in Jesus Christ and Him Crucified we experience a life full of victory. A life that is not ashamed! A life that gives no glory to the flesh! A life that declares when all hope seems lost…. YOUR SINS ARE FORGIVEN!! I hope we all seek a deeper understanding of what we deserve, because only THERE do we find what we don’t!!

Grace and Peace...

Same here, I'm currently attending a Southern Baptist church

About 5 weeks ago I was sitting in the church pew pondering my attendance with a heavy heart. Afflicted and unable to hear the message from the pulpit. Even though I knew who the Answer was, and what He did for me, my feelings were void of all victory. There was a guest speaker this Sunday who probably had some real nuggets but all I heard was Charlie Brown’s teacher… “waah wah waah wah waah”. I “felt” a cloud of oppression over my head. A cloud that seemed to drown out all the voices, and it wasn’t until I picked out a random page in the bible and started reading that I realized once again it wasn’t just a Satanic oppression, but a cloud sitting over my self righteous halo. Caught once again in the great diversion of my FEELINGS.

Yes, feelings are like the shifting shadows and should never be trusted. They come and they go like the wind on the high seas. Blowing here and there they move the vessel according to the corrupt and broken compass of our flesh. A compass that points directly away from the LIGHTHOUSE of the Gospel! Sitting there afflicted in my pew I turned to the book of Colossians and started reading…

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” -Collossians 2:13-15

WOW, what a VICTORY! This is a victory that does not feed the flesh, but the new man IN CHRIST through the power of God's Son! What does it say? We died with Christ and were made alive IN HIM! Having DISARMED the powers of darkness exposing them publicly! And as I sat reading chapter 2 of Colossians His light dawned and I realized once again the PROBLEM was ME! My old man had reared up once again seeking his own glory and Satan was right there ARMED once again with accusations from an old contract. I took my eyes off HIS CROSS and started rationalizing my approach to the Lord. Seeking approval apart from His blood. Trying to approach the Lord of MERCY according to my own merit. OH WRETCHED man that I am! PRAISE THE LORD FOR THE BLOOD OF GOD’S DEAR SON!!!

Heb 9:22
without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Hebrews 10:4
It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Hebrews 10:19
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus

Satan and our old man have a partnership that flourishes in the impetuous realm of the uncrucified. He is ARMED only in our FEELINGS apart from the FACTS! Having DIED with CHRIST he is completely disarmed. For how can one accuse a dead man who has been crucified with Christ nearly 2000 years ago? Accusations that have been PUT TO REST on a LONELY HILL! This is the Gospel, this is the BREAD OF LIFE, this is THE POWER OF GOD’S SON!

John 6:51
I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

The Gospel is the power of God UNTO salvation EVERYDAY, both from the penalty of sin and the everyday power of sin! Reconciled in the body of His flesh through death we are partakers of the BREAD OF LIFE. The same bread of life that walked among us is the same bread of life that took the chastisement for our peace! The same one that suffered a brutal death for our sins is the same body was buried, saw no decay, and was raised on the third! YES, this is the same bread of life that ascended on high and set the captives free!! The LIVING BREAD that shed His life giving blood for the sins of the world!! Saved, sanctified, justified, redeemed, forgiven, set apart, and made holy in the sight of our FATHER through the precious blood of God’s dear Son!! FEELINGS may come and FEELINGS may go, but FAITH has THE WORD to lay hold of and HE IS VERY POWERFUL!!!

Revelation 1:5
To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood

Grace and Peace….

The balance of which I was speaking has more to do with refraining from beating others over the head with sin and wretchedness with such unrelenting ferocity, that they are driven away. That is not what Jesus practiced. The sin-pounding with 41 lashes does not convey the love and compassion of Christ Jesus, but kills the soul and paints Christ as a cruel task master with nothing but hatred in His heart for His own creation in mankind. Keep in mind also that I'm not speaking in favor of ecumenical or any other kinds of evil compromises. For me, it's all about being biblical and consistent with the portrait painted therein.

If you are doing as Yahuweh Almighty Creator Says, that is good.
Those who contradict His Word, fight against truth, promoting other things, that is not good.

Howdy Jeff! Good to hear from you. Hope all is well with you and your family! Haven't been on this forum for very long but you are one of those Christians I really look up to. Your faith is a really blessing to me!

The biggest thing I've noticed, from the departure of Christ Crucified, is the exit from the word "sin". There are several trendy churches in my area that don't even talk about sin and hell anymore. Trendy churches with trendy names sprouting up everywhere, while another traditional church closes. I don't have a problem with that, but I do with the so called "positive" content. By turning their backs on the words sin and hell they fail to preach what Christ died for. As a veteran of the shadows I still only know a fraction of the love demonstrated on that lonely hill. But I still want to know more!! And without the teaching of what we deserve, and why Christ suffered so deeply, the JOY and POWER of having your SINS FORGIVEN will remain a mystery lost in the shadows of ecumenism. I want to know more of the wretchedness of my old man that I may know more of the MERCY AND GRACE that gave it all and took it all on that old rugged cross!

Grace and Peace...
