ETERNAL SECURITY/ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED

There are many who use these terms in a derogatory manor to mock those who believe His blood is sufficient, while others use them to preach a "license to sin". And still yet there are those who understand this salvation is FREEDOM FROM BOTH!!

These are two terms that carry a lot of clout. People are drawn to these statements for good reason. We have a natural “insecurity” in ourselves because of our flesh, the devil, and human reasoning. But on the other side we have The Spirit of His Word that reveals His unconditional love is eternal and can never be lost. But all too often we end up listening to the natural man rather than the Spirit.

The natural man is spiritually discerned and cannot see the things that are IN CHRIST. Our eyes were initially opened by His Grace, "by grace you have been saved", and through this grace faith has something to lay hold of... A power that leads us to our salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ. But as we travel throughout our walk we have a tendency to turn away from the initial power that first opened our eyes. And this happens through several outlets: our own fleshly desires, pride, false doctrine, religion, and Satan. Through these deceptions we often find ourselves entertaining thoughts from the natural man... thoughts that somehow we've progressed beyond the simplicity of the message preached.

As we depart from this message we depart from so much! We leave behind a perfect assurance that contradicts the wisdom of the natural man’s insecurities. We can no longer see how such a simple message could be sufficient for EVERYTHING! This departure from the TRUTH is a departure from the security we have IN CHRIST. A fleeting salvation as our faith is drawn away from a perfect forgiveness. Shipwrecked by our own insecurities we no longer trust in the ANCHOR OF OUR HOPE. So what's left for our faith to lay hold of if not a PERFECT ASSURANCE??

There is no greater assurance than the BLOOD OF THE PERFECT LAMB OF GOD! PURCHASED, WASHED, REDEEMED, JUSTIFIED, SANCTIFIED, ALL through the BLOOD OF GOD’S ONLY BEGOTTEN SON!! ETERNAL REDEMPTION THROUGH THE BLOOD OF JESUS!!

Hebrews 6:19
This HOPE we have as an ANCHOR OF THE SOUL, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence BEHIND THE VEIL

Hebrews 9:12
Not with the BLOOD of goats and calves, but with His own BLOOD HE ENTERED THE MOST HOLY PLACE once for all, having obtained ETERNAL REDEMPTION.

Hebrews 10:19
Therefore, brethren, having BOLDNESS to ENTER THE HOLIEST by the BLOOD OF JESUS

Hebrews 13:12
Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with HIS OWN BLOOD, SUFFERED outside the gate.

Hebrews 13:20
Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the BLOOD of the EVERLASTING COVENANT

1 Peter 1:18-19
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST, as of A LAMB WITHOUT BLEMISH AND WITHOUT SPOT.

Revelation 1:5
To Him who loved us and WASHED US FROM OUR SINS IN HIS OWN BLOOD,

Revelation 19:13
He was clothed with a ROBE DIPPED IN BLOOD, and His name is called THE WORD OF GOD.

But INDEED, we can be ASSURED!! We have the man of SORROWS! We have the PERFECT LAMB without BLEMISH! We have HIS BLOOD over our DOORPOST that we may enter the HOLIEST! No longer SCARLET but WHITE AS SNOW we stand before our FATHER… WASHED IN A PERFECT ASSURANCE!!

Grace and Peace....

"Once saved, always saved" is not Biblical and no one has a license to sin. We are to lead our lives in righteousness as best we can, and when we don't our Father has provided us repentance through our Lord Jesus Christ. But what does this mean? But those who will endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Matthew 24:13 It means, do not worship the antichrist when we see him in Jerusalem claiming to be God.

It sounds like you believe you can lose your salvation? I can't show you the value of the blood of His dear Son, only God can do that. I finally had to ask because I know the scriptures do not contradict themselves

It wasn't until I saw how the Father sees me through the blood of His dear Son, that I finally realized the word "eternal" in eternal life actually means what it says, ETERNAL. If eternal life could be lost, it wasn't eternal to begin with.

There are so many false gospels in this world. Anything plus or minus the gospel UNTO salvation is a false gospel. And so often this blessed salvation gets distorted to mean something other than salvation from sin. Is it not sin that separates us from God? Is it not sin that brings God's wrath? Is it not sin that bring condemnation, judgement, and death? So if sin is the problem than Christ is the cure!

1 John 3:5
And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.

And this glorious salvation from sin extends beyond just the penalty of sin. When we first believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, through the greatest love story ever told, we receive a full pardon from all our sins (past, present, and future). But throughout our day by faith in this same gospel we are delivered from the everyday POWER of sin. If we fall from His grace we don't lose our salvation from the PENALTY OF SIN (we can’t be uncrucified with Christ), but rather our salvation from everyday POWER OF SIN. A loss that can even lead to death if we don't return to His cross. So YES, we can lose our salvation from the POWER OF SIN if we turn away from a grace that is sufficient. And I believe this is the crux of the whole argument by those who think they can lose their "salvation". They don't see that this salvation is present as well as eternal. Through their own eyes they see the value of the blood of Christ as conditional, rather than how the Father sees the blood as unconditional, exactly what His righteousness requires..."when I see the blood, I will pass over you". We have something far greater than the blood of bulls and goats over our doorposts! God's wrath AGAINST SIN has been completely satisfied ONLY THROUGH THE BLOOD OF HIS DEAR SON... NO MORE, NO LESS!!

1 Corinthians 5:5
deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Exodus 12
And when I see the blood, I will pass over you

"No one has a license to sin".
Where did that come from, and what exclusive relevance is it to those who believe that eternal life is eternal, not temporary.

As you say here, your Matt24 scripture is directed at those who are around at the tribulation. Salvation in that context simply refers to being rescued by the return of Jesus. It has nothing to do with getting born again.

Contrary to what you think, this verse supports the OSAS viewpoint.
Heb6v4For it is impossible for those once having been enlightened, and having tasted of the heavenly gift, and having become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5and having tasted the goodness of God’s word and the power of the coming age— 6and then having fallen away—to restore them again to repentance, crucifying in themselves the Son of God and subjecting Him to open shame.

This is simply pointing out that a man cannot be born again twice. If it were the case that a "born again" person could become "unborn again", and then subsequently repented, it would require Jesus to go through the cross a 2nd time, 3rd, 4th, 5th 100th etc. every time he sinned and lost his new birth.
How many deaths would Jesus need to cover every relapse.

The once and for all death of Jesus redeems us from all sin, and falling away, throughout our earthly lifetime. The tragedy of sin is that it ruins our fellowship, but it cannot destroy our blood relationship.

That is evident in the parable of the prodigal son. Even when he was eating pig food in a foreign land, he was still his father's son, and nothing would ever eradicate his father's DNA from his body.
Likewise, once we are born of our Heavenly Father, nothing can eradicate our Father's heavenly DNA from our bloodstream. If that were possible, then, in order to get born again (once again) it would subject the Son of God to shame, and require his earthly birth and death a second time.

If OSAS is a true statement, how do you explain Hebrews 6:4-6? Just asking not attacking.
Funny you should ask. Something I wrote a few years ago in another forum.

Crucifying the Son all over again.

Hebrews 6:1-6
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

There are several exhortations in the bible, but there are few that have caused more controversy than Hebrews chapter 6. A strict warning that has fueled the fire for some to even remove the book of Hebrews from the Gentiles altogether. Now this presentation is not open for debate for those teachers who intentionally remove the WORD from CHRIST, those who remove certain books from certain believers to accommodate their multiple gospels. These deceivers have been covered in other presentations, and their condemnation is deserved! But for those who still value God’s word, and know that CHRIST IS NOT DIVIDED, let us take another look at this section that has caused much confusion amongst the saints.

Confusion is not from Him who called us, and one of the best resolutions I’ve found for confusion is CONTEXT!

Context of scripture is often overlooked when verses may appear to contradict the cross of Christ. A common rationale is to declare that the party in question were not true believers to begin with. Now this is a reasonable position to take, because we know it is impossible to be uncrucified with Christ. And by no means am I insinuating that other exhortations are not addressing the unconverted. But in this section I believe they are Christians who have already been crucified with Christ, who are trying to be brought back to their “initial repentance”.

“1 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”

The context in verses 1 and 2 are clearly referencing the elementary principles of Christ: repentance, faith toward God, baptisms, laying on of hands, and the resurrection from the dead. These first two verses must not be neglected if we are to understand the following verses…

“ 4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.”

I believe to be a partaker of the Holy Spirit, and to be enlightened by Him, you must know Him, and the only way to taste the word of God (who is Christ) and the powers of the ages to come, one must be translated into the Kingdom of His Son. A person cannot partake from the table of Christ and the table of demons. And how does one fall away from something they were never part of? And where do you draw the line on “repentance”? Does one reach a certain plateau of holiness that is visible to men?

2 Corinthians 6:14-15 For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?

1 Corinthians 10:21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

2 Peter 3:13 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

So this brings us to what I believe is the key to understanding this section... “repentance”. First we must know that repentance ALWAYS precedes salvation. Was John’s birth and ministry of repentance not six months prior to the birth and ministry of our Salvation who is Christ? “Metanoia” (repentance) in the Greek is the “turning of the heart” or "change of mind" (under the modern definition) toward our salvation Jesus Christ. This is a work of the Holy Spirit through the Gospel of Grace. And we must understand that scripture is not always referring to our CURRENT repentance, but also our INITIAL. Just like we are SAVED from the “penalty of sin”, but we are also BEING SAVED from the “power of sin” through that same precious love story of “Jesus Christ and Him Crucified”! Both repentance and salvation are according to HIS GRACE, both INITIAL and CURRENT. And that is why the Gospel is the POWER of God (((UNTO))) SALVATION… faith in Christ! So I believe the context of this repentance is referring to individuals being brought back to “initial repentance”.

Not sure what the open demonstrations consisted of, but my guess is they were trying to bring someone back from spiritual death, openly, in front of witnesses by rebaptizing them, or some sort of ritual to make them "reborn-again". Their actual demonstrations are unknown, but the content clearly supports the initial FOUNDATION of repentance and faith towards God (salvation). How else could they crucify the Son of God again openly if not by bringing a believer back from the dead in front of witnesses? Remember, verse 2 also mentions “resurrection from the dead and doctrines of baptisms”, which I believe also support the context of initial repentance and salvation. And that is why their actions deserved a good solid chastening… Very serious actions indeed! It would be like proclaiming openly that Christ Crucified was not good enough the first time!

If one does not hold to this interpretation they would be in good company. The majority of teachers that believe eternal life is eternal, also adhere to the teaching that the party in question were unbelievers, but after wrestling with these passages in context, I could not see it that way.

Just some food for thought. If I am wrong, pray for me!

Grace and Peace...

Agreed, similar to my last reply.

2 Peter 3:13 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;

Maybe I"m wrong! My understanding of Hebrews 6 is that the author was writing to the Jews who had accepted Christ as Saviour and have now gone back to temple worship rejecting Christ.

They have committed the unforgivable sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, rejecting and renouncing the indwelling Holy Spirit to shame. This is not the same as someone who backslides and has not renounced the Holy Spirit.

Yes, that is good observation! It is possible they were returning to the sacrificial system after accepting Christ's eternal sacrifice. That would definitely fall under this serious rebuke of publicly shaming the sacrifice of Christ...

I believe OSAS is true in one sense, as long as faith in Christ is on the table. There are some, very few I believe, who have taken the faith off the table and lost their salvation.

Their are several more verses in scripture that point to blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. I see this sin as the only way one can lose their salvation.

WHERE IN THE BIBLE?

Where in the bible does it say a believer can be uncrucified with Christ? Where in the bible does it say we can be unredeemed, unsanctifed, unjustified, undelivered, unwashed, unforgiven, unrisen, and unborn-again IN CHRIST? Did Christ not DIE ONCE the just for the UNJUST? Where do we find our victory, in the FINISHED work of Christ or the “unfinished”?

The dying words of the Christ, “IT IS FINISHED” were not spoken so mankind could establish a yoke of dead works, but to prove without a doubt… IT IS FINISHED! It is either by His blood or the self righteous stench of human effort. We contaminate the whole batch if we think for one second that HIS GRACE IS NOT SUFFICIENT!

We don’t carry that old tree around with is so we can indulge in the flesh, but instead that we SHOUT the praises of a PERFECT FORGIVENESS!! Always WALKING in the FREEDOM that set us free…Jesus Christ and Him crucified!

So let us continue to SHOUT the TRUE VICTORY, and let it ECHO through ETERNITY!! Because my dear friend in Christ…. WE HAVE BEEN WASHED IN THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF THE LAMB!! We don’t stand before our Father in dirty rags, but with confidence and assurance, white as snow, praising the name of the only begotten who washed us from our sins in His OWN BLOOD!!

Take a look at CALVARY and see for yourself! The wonders of mercy’s hill are ALIVE! The love shed upon that old tree is the power that fuels the FIRE in our SOULS! A MERCY and GRACE that never quits is the RESURRECTION POWER of CHRIST IN US!!

1 Corinthians 1:18
For the MESSAGE OF THE CROSS is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the POWER OF GOD.

Grace and Peace...

I believe.......
1Jn.2:2 And He IS the propititian for OUR sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

I believe,
Heb.12:1-3 Wherefore seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses,LET US LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT, AND THE SIN which doth so easily beset us,and LET US RUN WITH PATIENCE the race that is set before us,
Looking unto JESUS the author and finisher of OUR FAITH;who for the joy that was set before Him ENDURED THE CROSS,despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
For CONSIDER HIM THAT ENDURED such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

I believe,
2Tim.4:7 I have fought a good FIGHT,I have FINISHED my course,I have KEPT the faith:

This is how I believe we have eternal security in Him!
Yes,Jesus shed His blood that we might be redeemed,He is the ONLY salvation of God for the sinner! This is God's gift to a lost, dying sinful word bc of His great love to us!
This gift is FREE to whosoever WILL!

If you can't see it in Heb. 6:4-6 or in Gal. 5 where Paul tells the Galatians that reverting to the Law they have "fallen from grace," you have chosen not to see it.

If you can't see it in Heb. 6:4-6 or in Gal. 5 where Paul tells the Galatians that reverting to the Law they have "fallen from grace," you have chosen not to see it.

So how does one get unbornagain in the Spirit if they lose their salvation? Christ would have to uncrucified for them to unjustified, unsanctified, unforgiven, unreconciled, undelievered, unburied, unrisen, and unseated with Christ in the heavenlies? When a person believes in the Lord Jesus Christ they DIE WITH CHRIST, not separate from Him! How do they undie with Christ? And how are they unseated from the heavenlies? This salvaiton takes place through the BODY OF CHRIST by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. So please tell me how they are uncrucified when they were crucified WITH Christ. We were not crucified separate from Christ but WITH CHRIST!!

Romans 6:6
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Colossians 1:21
And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight

Your doctrine is the one preached AGAINST in Heb 6:4-6 "if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame."

The only way to crucify the Son again is to say that the party in question can be uncrucified the first time. Saying His blood wasn't good enough so the Son of God needs to be recurcified. Basically that verse is saying it is IMPOSSIBLE to be REBORNAGAIN, otherwise the Son of God is being crucified all over again

How do I know this? CONTEXT! Verses 1-3 tells us this is the FOUNDATION of repentance and faith in God and resurrection from the dead...

Heb 6:1-3
not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

This context clearly shows they were trying bring back someone's salvation back, and that is IMPOSSIBLE or Christ would have to be crucified all over again.

The only ones guilty of blaspheming the Holy Spirit are those who have rejected the Holy Spirit's conviction. ie. The unregenerate.
Once a person is born again by the Spirit of God, he has his Father's DNA and is a son forever, not dependant on behaviour.
That's why Jesus said to all these people who presented their good works, "Depart from me, I never knew you!"
He didn't tell them, "Depart from me, you haven't been good enough."

Another Christian forum wisely banned all threads regarding "Once Saved Always Saved" vs. "Once Saved Not Always Saved." It's an exercise in futility - you can cherry-pick Bible verses to support both positions, and those who adopt one or the other are typically locked into it beyond all rationality.

Is someone going to live his or her life differently depending on which position, OSAS or OSNAS, he or she adopts? It strikes me as much ado about nothing - just one more excuse for Christians to pit themselves against other Christians and make non-believers roll their eyes and giggle.

That being said, "Once Saved Not Always Saved" seems to be to have by far the strongest support in the Bible and Christian history. That's how I live my life. If "Once Saved Always Saved" happens to be correct, what have I lost?

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
