Hi to all and in Gen 1:27 So God created man in Hid own IMAGE , in the IMAGE of God created him , male and female created He them !!

Why just in His IMAGE ?

Why not Perfect ?

Why and then DIE ON THE CROSS ?

Image means resemblance, semblance, reflection. The Son of God is the image of the invisible God... so the Son, the second Adam, was the pattern God used to make the first Adam.

Why did he have to die? Because the first Adam came into the world without sin, was tempted, gave into that temptation (sinned) and death was the result. To reverse that, the opposite had to occur... so the second Adam came into the world without sin, was tempted, but did not give into temptation. Thus the death of perfection reversed the curse of sin and death.

We will be perfected later, so he did make some of us perfect. But it is for us to learn what imperfection and perfection are perhaps.

God's image is perfect.. a righteous nature.
Why and then DIE ON THE CROSS ?
Giving the short version explanation.

Adam's disobedience brought sin into the world, every person born after he and Eve had a sin nature.

So Jesus came to suffer the penalty of sin, and provide redemption to mankind and restore righteousness.

Yes, man was not made perfectly like Jesus who is incapable of sinning; or else, Adam and Eve would not have sinned.

So, they were made in God's "image", yes, but only as created beings could be in His image, I would say. And yes you seem to be indicating the "image" can mean only outwardly but not in content of character.

Even so, Jesus is "the image of God" > 2 Corinthians 4:4. So, "image" can mean including the character of God.

So, why were Adam and Eve not made perfectly like Jesus?

Why couldn't they have free will with inability to choose to sin? After all, they could still be free to make choices. God has His kind of free will which is free from being able to sin; so why not Adam and Eve, then?

My opinion is, that Jesus all along was meant to be the first on earth to live perfectly without sin, and this includes how He loved the way He has loved. No created being was meant to be the first, like this. But in Colossians 1:18 we have "that in all things He may have the preeminence." To me, this can include meaning that Jesus is the One meant to be the first and best in all which is good.

And Adam and Eve have served to be an object lesson for us, proving how even being perfect as a human is not enough. Even though God created them perfectly, still their human character was not almighty so it could not give in to Satan's evil spirit > "the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience." (in Ephesians 2:2)

Their character, being human, did not have God's almighty immunity (James 1:13) against how Satan's evil spirit would mess them and ruin them. And so they could be corrupted, and this is what happened.

This shows how much we need Jesus and to depend purely on Him and not our own ability or our own free will's ability >

"for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." (Philippians 2:13)

And about why Jesus died on the cross > only Jesus could die right for our sins . . . right? In our sin > our selfishness-infected nature > how could we die in a way that could please our Father to forgive us? Jesus has sweetly pleased Him, for us :)

He was made perfect.
And sinners who become His children, with a new and right spirit, born again by the Will of the Father in heaven, and set apart to Him by Him for Himself,
are told again to "be perfect", and so ..... it is so.... (though men often fail)....

The definitions of "perfect" are often mis-construed, yes....

People don't usually complain when an entertainer, or a sports 'idol' , is called "PERFECT!",
but
it seems to take a nut to call a believer "PERFECT", so we must instead of what men say, look to find out what Jesus Means, as the Father Directs.

Adam & Eve were created in His perfect image ... and were perfect ... until they sinned.

Jesus died on the cross that through Him one can be reconciled back into Him/God ... because ALL have sinned since the fall of Adam & Eve ... and all need to be changed.

When Jesus returns ... all the saved will be with Him ... perfected (changed) through Him and therefore perfect.

Hi and I was reading Phil 3:21 !!

#1 The fall of man was necessary

#2, Christ came as a man to die for man

#3 When God saves us , Rom 10:9 and 10

#4 We are PLACED into the the BODY OF CHRIST , 1 Cor 12:13

#5 We are still made in the IMAGE of God

#6 But , Christ is COMING / PAROUSIA for us , this IMAGE WII BE CHANGED

#6 Phil 3:21 will TRANSFORM the body , in order to become the SAME BODY of His GLORY

In other word become as Christ to reign in Heaven in our ASSIGNED INHEITANCE , Eph 1:11 and in 1 Cor 6:2 , we will GOVERN ANGELS !!

Not being picky but.. it matters. Its let US make man in OUR image. Who's our? And when He made man.. there was no SIN what so ever in or about man. It was not till Satan sneaks in and we got on that ride DOWN HILL with our hands up in the air like a great ride! lol...

We will not truly understand this salvation till its all over I believe. I look at it...God is just and has to do things the legal way. Satan just lied.. but we listened and we then handed over what God gave us. God can not just go in and take it back. We did this. He had to do it legally...if that makes sense

Because this present earth is the test. The perfection for those who believe on Him comes later, after the test results are in.

Hi Dan:

Thank you for starting this thread. You wrote:

First, Christ (the Lord God of Gen. 2:4+) did not create anything directly in Genesis 1. God is doing the creating "through" His Word (Christ) that begins with the perfect "Heaven" (singular) and "Earth" in Genesis 1:1. The perfect ages existed for a very very long time, until God reproduced Adam's death in God's Infinite Realm where "you are gods" (Ps. 82:6, Jn 10:34-36). The perfect-singularity Earth (Adam) is then "made void," until the waters above the firmament-expanse (heavens) are gathered together and the waters below the firmament-expanse (earth) are gathered together and "heaven" (Gen. 1:8) is begotten by the overlapping process (like Power from on High and Holy Spirit in Luke 1:35). God is doing all the work through His Word in Genesis 1, until God rests in Gen. 2:1-3, until the Lord God (Lamb of God = Christ) begins doing His consecration work on the 7th Day in Gen. 2:4+.

Dan: Why just in His IMAGE?

Do not be fooled by the language from Genesis 1:26-28. God is creating man in His Image, which is the Image in which He is speaking as "God Who Is" (from Rev. 1:8) testifying as the "blood witness" for God To Come (spirit witness) and God Who Was (water witness). These three witnesses of The Almighty are testifying right here in Genesis 1 as three parts of a "man" having a spirit (God To Come) as soul (God Who Is) and a body (God Who Was). This is the same pattern as the Father (spirit), Son (blood) an Holy Spirit (water) from Matt. 28:19, who All have the same "relationships" as your own spirit (spirit witness), soul (blood witness) and body (water witness vehicle of expression). All God is saying is that "man" (male = spirit, seed = blood, woman = water witness) is created in "Our Image" of spirit (man), blood (seed, offspring) and water (woman). God's three witnesses testify from Genesis 1:1 (the primer = God; Spirit, Heaven; Blood; Earth, Water) through Revelation and everywhere in between. Once you recognize the three-witness pattern, then you begin seeing them EVERYWHERE. :0)

Dan: Why not Perfect ?

What is "perfect" according to whose definition? God's Plan is perfect seeing the end from the beginning. God knew that Eve and Israel would fall and God made provisions within our gospel to redeem mankind (worthy of being saved) and restore all things. All of this happens within the flash of a single instant in God's Infinite Realm (where we are standing in Judgment right now), but we must do things "already done" (Ecc. 1:9-11) over and over again within this tiny earthbound envelope that includes the elements of time and space.

Dan: Why and then DIE ON THE CROSS?

This is an excellent question, Dan. You see the perfect Earth of Genesis 1:1 "made void" for darkness to fall upon the face of the deep. Right? Well, the "Heaven" of Genesis 1:1 is the "Word" of John 1:1-3!! God commanded His Word in the Infinite Realm, saying: "Go over there and remake Adam inside yourself again, so that We together can bring him back to life from the death resulting from the Satanic Rebellion." God's Word then incarnated as the Heaven of Genesis 1:1, so that Adam could be remade "in" Him as the Earth of Genesis 1:1. All that exists in all of creation is God (spirit witness) and Heaven/Word (Christ: Father + Son + Holy Spirit) and the Earth (Adam: Adam + Seed + Eve). Everyone here is a member of Adam's body in the Earth right up until the time they obey our gospel to become a member of Christ's Body seated in the heavenly places "in" Christ Jesus (F+S+HS as a man).

The short of a very long story is that God has to divide His Word/Heaven into the Father (Power from on High = spirit witness) and the Holy Spirit (water witness; Helper like Eve to Adam), so that the Father could overshadow the Holy Spirit to "beget" the Only Begotten Son. Luke 1:35. Christ being "begotten" in the womb of the woman (Mary) is typical of the Word being sacrificed in the very beginning! Christ's crucifixion is typical of God sacrificing His Living Word, so that Christ could incarnate into the heaven of this creation (Earth) as the "Lamb of God" in the center of the throne (Rev. 7:17). The Lamb of God then incarnated onto this planet as Jesus Christ 2000 years ago, so that we might be saved by the foolishness of the message preached (1Cor. 1:17-18) confounding Satan and his minions currently occupying the heavenly places (Eph. 6:12). God's Plan includes you "hearing" and "believing" our gospel, that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He died for our sins on the cross 2000 years ago. God raised Him from the dead and He is now seated at the right hand of God in the heavenly places "in" Christ Jesus. Eph. 2:4-7. The bottom line here is that God's wisdom is greater than all the works of the angels and men combined throughout all the ages. :0)

I was first introduced to Christianity through Dispensationalism, then was sort of a Baptist, then Evangelical. At 9/11 the actions of the Christians I knew were so distressing that I disavowed the Christianity that I could see. Where were the words of Jesus the Christ in our response to this? The actions of the 'Christians' felt really awful. I kept on with God, and Jesus Christ, however.

Perhaps mankind was first created perfect? There seems to be a disturbing force that disturbs the Creation. Lots of people try to explain all this through lengthy treatises, most of which for me tread the boundaries or ridiculousness.

These days, nearing the end of my life, it is clear to me that there is much that I do not understand. I doubt that things can be explained as simply as in Dispensationalism. And the idea that certain belief systems are better than others is divisive and hurtful. We seem to avoid the simple truth in favor of the sublime.

A case in point is that Ethiopian Orthodox insist they are the first and best Christians. Armenian Christians insist the same thing. I submit that the best of God are those who love mercy and justice and walk humbly beside our God. I do not understand why some insist that belief is complicated.

Christ was made in the image of God, Elohim is plural meaning God and the Angels He included himself in the creation Christ is the very image of God, each one of us were made in our own image, what we looked like before the foundation(katabole) the world. God knew Jeremiah before he formed him in the womb by observing him, by sight, check the Hebrew manuscripts , Jeremiah existed in an angelic form, as did we all, before he was placed in his mother's womb.

Christ wasn't made ... He has always been ... He is God. No one can see God in His Godly form and live. Therefore Jesus/God needed to take on the form of a man to interact/communicate with mankind face to face.

The image of something is not exclusive to a physical form ... there is one's character ... we are being conformed into His image ... His character. Mankind was created to take on the character (image) of God .... not a physical likeness of God or that of angels.

No we were not angels and then born human ... we did not exist before being human. God has foreknowledge .... and knows who we are before we become ... who we are.

Our body is a shell .... a tent .... who we are is our character .... our mind ... our heart ..... that's who we are ... and our minds and hearts are being conformed to the image of His mind, His heart ..... His character.

I think that in order to understand in what sense man is made in God's image, we need to understand what it means to "know" good and evil. We are told by the LORD God that He knows good and evil, but that man did not until after they ate from the tree (Genesis 3:22). Answering this will tell us much about man's pre-fall nature, which in turn will enable us to answer your questions better.

I believe God knows good and evil in the sense that He understands why good is good and evil is evil. This is because, in His omniscience, He is aware of the consequences of evil. At creation, Adam and Eve had a sense of good and evil (a moral nature), but, being finite in knowledge, they could not understand why good was good and evil was evil.

At this point I need to clarify what is meant by good and evil... it is my belief that, in a broad sense, agape (God's love) is "good" and to not agape is "evil" (Mark 12:29-31). Agape can be defined as acting for the ultimate good of the one loved. It is the foundation of the relationship within the Trinity, and is the foundation for right relationship between us and God, and also between each other. Failure to agape results in broken relationships, which leads to all the various things that cause harm to others (which is the essence of sin Roman's 13:10).

So, going back to what we were talking about, Adam and Eve had the capacity to agape, but didn't understand why failure to do so was wrong, having never witnessed or experienced anything but agape. In this way they were in a state of innocence. That situation was shattered by the devil, who introduced evil by lying, causing Eve to be deceived (displaying a lack of faith/trust in God's character), and forcing Adam to choose between his love for God and his love for Eve. Adam chose Eve, and deliberately disobeyed God by eating the fruit. The rest is history.

So what was the "image of God" in Adam and Eve? Although not the only way, I believe that the capacity to agape was the primary way that humans are in God's image. Which leads to your first two questions...

Why in His image, and not perfect? To start with, it must be noted that it is impossible for God to make any being exactly like Himself in every way (can't "create" an eternal uncreated foundation of all existence!). So creating humans perfect was not an option. God did create them "very good", with the capacity to agape, but limited in knowledge and wisdom. Why? I believe the answer is found in Ezekiel 28:12-19 and Isaiah 14:12-14. God had already created a being who was "the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty". This being was self-corrupted through pride, and had decided that he wanted to be God! That insight leads me to the following theory (the Bible does not explicitly tell us why God does certain things, so take my thoughts on this matter as they are: informed speculation)...

Knowing the primacy of agape, and knowing that God foreknew the results of every possible reality that He created, we can safely say that God acted in perfect love when He created us the way that He did. The very nature of agape requires the ability to choose, otherwise we would be nothing more than a doll that says "I love you" when God pulls our strings! Yet real choice inevitably leads to wrong choices for any imperfect being (already established that any created being is by definition not perfect). It is my belief that by limiting our knowledge, wisdom, and power to the extent that He did, He provided the opportunity for us to be redeemed! God doesn't offer redemption to Satan and the fallen angels (Hebrews 2:16-17), why not? I think it's because they were given a much greater amount of knowledge and wisdom, yet still chose to rebel against God. Therefore, our limitations are the very reason we are given the opportunity for redemption! Which leads us to your final question...

Why the cross? Huge topic that I can't possibly answer exhaustively; but in light of what I've said so far, I'll focus on how the cross demonstrates God's love and provides redemption for mankind... but this post is already too long, so I'll finish in a separate post.
