Basically, I'm introducing myself here so I can explain my avatar and solicit prayers.

This is my son's unit emblem. He's an Army captain with the 3/6 Cav out of Ft. Bliss, TX, but he is currently flying Apache helicopters in Northern Afghanistan in order to put the hurt on the Taliban.

To say I'm a nervous dad would be an understatement. Let's just say my prayer life has grown incrementally. I would like to ask anybody who has a mind to if they would stop occasionally and pray for his safety, and that he comes home healthy and uninjured. His name is Matt.

I really would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi @_Dave_, WELCOME TO CF ..

Praying for Matt, and for you. Just FYI, we have a Prayer Wall here at CF were you can continue to request prayers for Matt and give us updates about him in the future if you'd care to.

God bless you! (Numbers 6:24-26)

Dave praying for your son’s safety and protection.

This old Soldier and Redleg prays in Jesus Name Amen!

On another note, look up Apache Warrior foundation. It’s a tight group and a place where Apache aviators past and present and their families fellowship.

Lifting this young man up in prayer for his continued safety over there and may God place a hedge of protection around him. I also am praying for some peace for your heart Sir.
May the God of all comfort encourage and bless you richly as you await your son's arrival back home.

What an honor and privilege to pray for your son. I can think of him as if he were my own. I will pray this for him, and everyone here is welcome to join in and agree with God's Word from Psalm 91:

Psalm 91
1
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2
I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
3
Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5
You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8
You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
9
If you make the Most High your dwelling-- even the LORD, who is my refuge--
10
then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
11
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12
they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13
You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14
"Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15
He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

Just a note to bring an update about my son Matt. Thank you everyone for your prayers.

He was on that mission when two soldiers were killed a couple of weeks ago. He knew them.

Those three Marines that were killed yesterday were at the base where Matt first landed in Afghanistan. He texted me today to tell me a buddy of his stationed at that base flying Apaches launched to kill the ones who killed those Marines.

I grieve and pray for the families of the five men killed this year. There were only 14 killed all of last year, but northern Afghanistan, where my son is now, is where the Taliban is making a last-ditch, all-out effort to maintain any control in Afghanistan. So, it's pretty hot there.

The Taliban tried twice to kill the Afghanistan vice president as he was visiting Mazar-e-Sharif, the city where my son's base is located.

Matt is doing well. His spirit seems good. We text at least once a week, if not several times during the week. I breathe better for awhile every time we hear from him.

Blessings,

Dad Dave

I realize I've been remiss in not bringing an update about my son.

He arrived safely home with his unit earlier this month after his 9-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Thank you everybody for your prayers. His whole unit made it back without suffering any casualties ... but it was not without the Taliban doing their best to change that outcome.

Sadly, shortly after they came home there was a report of the fatalities of the two occupants of an Apache helicopter flying the same exact kind of mission that my son engaged in for the past nine months.

My heart grieves for those men's parents. I definitely know and understand the emotional experience of seeing a son go overseas to go into combat.

Thanks for sharing - I can't even imagine the emotional grip that takes hold in a situation like this - you are very brave also - to stand by your son praying for him in the face of danger and evil. Such an inspiration.
