For what it’s worth, I disagree with it being “primarily made up of Russian and other Slavic backgrounds”. That may have been true at one time, but I don’t think it is accurate today.
I don't disagree. My contact is limited and that was a few decades back. Things could easily have changed in the interim and of course it depends to some degree on which parish one has in mind.

That said, it does have its origin from the Russian church and the style certainly is a more Russian flavor as opposed to a Byzantine style.

That makes sense.

I have seen one OCA parish which was decidedly “Russian”, although it was the exception to the rule of the parishes I know. Even today, if that was the sole experience with the OCA, I likely would come to a different conclusion than I have now. There actually are some ethnic episcopates (Bulgarian, Romanian, Albanian) that fall under the OCA organizationally, with their own bishops underneath the OCA metropolitan. It’s the exception, but it does exist. Outside of these groups, the OCA is organized by location.

Is the OCA therefore "Putin-free." ie, beyond his reach and influence in regard to political involvements and agendas i...

Yes, it is. The OCA Cathedral, in DC., is on Massachusetts Ave.... You're thinking of a building on Pennsylvania Ave.

All the Orthodox Churches near me are very immigrant-centric. Many conduct their services in Russian or Greek. Why hasn't there been a movement to forge them all into one "American" Orthodox Church? As is, these churches will not be able to last long-term, as they will just plain run out of parishioners who speak their language. It also makes it incredibly hard for someone like me, who is fully American, to actually join the Orthodox Church.
If we are being honest there isn’t an American church because Greece and Russia are too interested in maintaining their political power. An independent church in the USA is a terrible danger to them and would offset the global balance of power of the worldwide church. The bishops of the OCA are also small time and don’t have the chops to lead a large church. And so here we are.

Not all Orthodox are Russian, and not all Russians are Orthodox.
And not all Russians or lovers of Russia love Putin.

I have a friend who is an inquirer to Orthodoxy in large part due to her love and interest in Russia, Russian history, Russian literature, etc. And she’s not a Putin fan.

Hmm, then how do you explain the OCA that we've all mentioned?
The MP parishes are so few in America. Personally I'm more afraid of american political influence (as we have already seen being used) than influence exerted by traditional Orthodox nations which have the privelege to do so.

Put not your trust in princes, in sons of man, in whom there is no salvation. That goes for Putin.....and it also unfortunately goes for Bishops who are so drunk on their own power that they are willing to watch the Church burn. We still say "Many Years Master" to Benjamin, who was arrested for DUI and urinated in the back of a police car and we just ignore the fact that that happened because he has a fancy hat. We cover up for the fact that a priest at St. Tikhon's raped a seminarian in his dorm because it would be too scandalous to report. I hate the fact that I live in a time that sees such corruption, but God is still there, and He will still help the people who seek the truth.

Just remember, we cannot see anyone's repentance.

I'm not defending these actions. But let us not fall in to judgement and gossip, either.

Lord have mercy on all involved in these incidents, and have mercy on me a sinner and save me by their prayers.

It seems some other bishops were acting in gossiping and did uncanonical things too.

Lord have mercy!

Yeah I’m sure that your willingness to be a good Christian about this whole thing will definitely make the rape victim feel better.

I recognize that there is always more I can and should be doing to help such people. Forgive me for not doing so in my sin and self righteousness
