I saw an amusing bumper sticker on my way to work this morning that said "Carter/Mondale 2020". I thought it was one of those made up bumper stickers, created out of disdain for the current Democratic Party offerings for the 2020 Presidential election. But I Googled it and it looks like it's a "thing", complete with its own Facebook page and several articles. Even Amazon is apparently selling "Jimmy Carter 2020" t-shirts.

I fully admit I have not paid a whole lot of attention to the Democratic primaries, but of all the polls and coverage I have seen, I don't recall Carter/Mondale being mentioned. Is this a "wishful thinking" thing similar to those want Hilary to run, or is it legit?

You're kidding right. No offence to elderly individuals being a contender for President but at 94? The bumper sticker was meant to be a joke not that if he were younger it couldn't be a possibility but come on. At 94?

It does make a good point though in a humorous way. It's saying what's needed is more reasonably minded Democrats from the past and not the current generation of such.

I thought it was a joke, too, until I Googled it and saw the T-shirts for sale on Amazon. A recent article like below seems to indicate he has some influence on opinions of the public for Democratic nominees, at least more influence than other recent Presidents or nominees not named Barack Obama.

2020 elections: Obama endorsement matters to voters, Clinton's less so
In the poll, 11% cited former president Jimmy Carter, who at age 95 is still building houses and doing other good works, as influential with them. But all the other former nominees registered in single digits.

The only other nominee to win the White House, Bill Clinton, was named by just 6%. Hillary Clinton, the party's standardbearer the last time around, also was cited by 6%. Al Gore, the 2000 nominee, was named by 3%, and Michael Dukakis (1988), John Kerry (2004) and Walter Mondale (1984) by 1% each.

I was known to wear my old 1972 "Nixon, now more than ever" button during various election seasons -- though it was basically a "protest" of the choices for that election, as I had no desire for another Nixon presidency. I suspect, with how poor Carter was rated as President, that this is similar; likely even a wish for a candidate who has morals, like Carter does.

....we could do a 1980 redux....except there isn't a GOP candidate liberal enough to represent Ronald Reagan.

I could be wrong but there are several reasons why Hillary supporters might promote something like this in order to inspire a segment of the USA Democratic Party to begin to promote Hillary again?

The point could be that Hillary... is significantly better than Carter - Mondale ..... and also better than the current Democratic Party leading contenders especially if she picks one of them to be her V. P. candidate, (my guess would be Warren).

They're both in their 90's. How likely is this to be serious? I once had a t-shirt that had Christopher Walken for President "We need more cowbell". They had a webpage and everything. I'm pretty sure it wasn't serious either.

Weird isn't it? Also Ronald Reagan wasn't as friendly to Russian dictators as the current GOP.
