Lady Astor: "You sir, are drunk!"
Churchill: "And you madam, are ugly. But the difference is that tomorrow morning I'll be sober."
I have always been amused by that comment.

O'Malley was deathly ill and was sequestered in a small room in the attic to recover. His drinking buddies squeezed through the small door, equipped with a plentiful supply of whiskey, to cheer him up. After several hours of drinking they stumbled out through the narrow exit with words of encouragement,
"Ya'll be up in nootime O'Malley", and "We'll see ya doon at the tavern soon, O'Malley.
The last man, bumping his head on the low door frame muttered,
"Thay'll naver get the coffin through the door."
Obviously by your own testimony you have started drinking alcohol. The question is, can you stop it ? Don't deceive yourself, you either drink alcohol or you don't drink alcohol.
I've never really started drinking so it's not something that I have to put effort into giving it up. I have to be careful because a thimble full will make me tipsy. My dad collects tequila, they do come in amazing bottles but they taste like torture to me. The only alcohol I actually like are ones that don't taste like alcohol at all, but then you discover that they pack a punch after you already feel knocked out. I'm amazed you've never been drunk in the whole of your life! Wow. I have most of my life ahead of me and I've already had that happen, unintentionally. The only positive is that I'm fairly certain I'll never develop a habit because it scares me to lose control.
I do understand the challenge of giving up something you used to enjoy. I had to cut out coffee this year and it was seriously difficult.
Why is Christmas day a special occasion? (What happened on that day exactly) As for giving up drinking, I don't think that's possible for me.I hasten to add I have never been drunk in the whole of my life. I used to drink in strict moderation and well within the recommended guidelines of what one should drink weekly. However, I used to take statins for a very high familial cholesterol level, which were damaging my liver, I was taken off them by my doctor. Although it was never suggested I should give up drinking, I decided it would be best if I did. I haven't missed alcohol one little bit, but I will probably have a small glass of wine on special occasions like Christmas Day.
Have other posters given up drinking alcohol?

O'Reilly would stumble drunkenly into the boarding house every night waking everyone up as he noisily got sick in the bathroom.
Fed up with this the other residents filled the toilet with chicken intestines in hopes of shocking him into sobriety.
The next morning O' Reilly appeared at the breakfast table pale and sullen.
"I've a confession to make", he offered. "Last night I came home in me oosual drunken state, but this time I was so drunk that I puked me guts up into the toilet."
After a long moment of silence his face brightened and he exclaimed,
"But with the halp 'O the Lord, and a long handled stick, I FINALLY POKED 'EM BACK DOON AGAIN."

There's only one occasion every year I celebrate. (New year's day) That's it, not even my birthday is anything anymoreSanta Claus pays a visit on Christmas Day.
Maybe you should consider trying to give up drinking, if you are addicted to alcohol.
I can see a wine cooler turning one off drinking for life.I've had two drinks of alcohol my whole life and I am 52. One was a wine cooler and the other was a beer. I took a couple of sips of the beer and poured the rest out and never drank it again. That was 31 years ago
Back in the 80's they were more popularI can see a wine cooler turning one off drinking for life.
Oh I remember, unfortunately.Back in the 80's they were more popular
