“Metropolitan” Mikhail Zinkevich of Lutsk and Volyn of the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” has expressed his support for a group of Lutsk activists who asked a blessing to celebrate the Nativity of Christ according to the New Calendar on December 25 in order to differentiate themselves from Russia.

Not surprising. They will in time adopt the western business calendar and the Uniates will follow suit. And as soon as Antioch officially rejects the schismatics, they will merge with the Unia so the EP can replace Patriarch John of Antioch with the melkites.

good point
And if they're not schismatics...who cares? They made a request, it'll be kicked back or granted as appropriate.

So either way, it doesn't seem much to concern anyone else.

Culture is important.
What's your objection to Dec. 25th for Feast of Nativity?

"Culture is important" is as good an argument to try to move away from Russian aggressors as much as possible; they learned to play culture as a fiddle for centuries now. Having said that, most likely, they'll not move the date any time soon, for practical reasons. I don't mind if they did.

Also, "schismatics" is a slur.

What I don't see addressed in this article is whether it is just the date of Christmas being moved, or the whole calendar being moved to the new calendar. If you move Christmas, you would have to move anything associated with Christmas, like the feast of Annunciation. You also would have problems with how you treat the time between Christmas which would now be December 25, and Theophany which would still be January 19th. Would that all be fast-free? Seems like a poorly thought out idea, dare I say a knee jerk reaction.
