From the "This could get interesting", files: White House Official Sues Politico: ‘Conspired with Schiff’ to Leak False Info to ‘Further Impeachment Inquisition’

House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) “acted in concert” with Politico to leak allegedly false information from the impeachment inquiry as part of a “scheme” to advance the “inquisition” against President Donald Trump, according to an explosive defamation lawsuit filed by a senior Trump White House official on Monday.

White House official Kash Patel, who is a senior counterterrorism official on the National Security Council (NSC), filed the lawsuit in Virginia court in which he says Schiff “weaponized the media” to advance his impeachment agenda.
...
He is demanding a trial by jury.

The significance of this lawsuit’s filing is that Bertrand’s Politico story on Patel came based off of testimony provided behind closed doors to the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry by Fiona Hill and Alexander Vindman. They both alleged, incorrectly, in their testimony that Patel had secret meetings with President Trump on Ukraine matters and provided the president with documents on Ukraine. But as Breitbart News has already reported, while these Democrat impeachment witnesses Hill and Vindman may have testified in Schiff’s private impeachment inquiry to that effect, it was not accurate. Patel has since publicly confirmed he has never spoken with the president about Ukraine.

Politico’s decision to print the false testimony of Hill and Vindman as fact, which Patel’s lawsuit makes clear was in close coordination with Schiff and his team on Capitol Hill, could seriously cost the media outlet. Other media outlets that printed the inaccuracies could also end up on the chopping block as well, but for now Patel is focused on Politico with this lawsuit

Virginia really needs some anti-slapp legislation.

The fact this is just an instinct of Trump to sue against anyone that publishes news he doesn't like. It doesn't tell me if it is true or not, just that he doesn't like it.

If you want a treat, read the actual lawsuit.

Rarely in the annals of law has so much self entitled rubbish been churned out for so little cause. It was hysterical, in every sense of the word.

The kicker here: Patel is using the same lawyer that Nunes did when he tried to sue @devincow.

I'd be very surprised if this went anywhere. I wonder how Nunes' cow lawsuits are going in Virginia? Those accounts' following sure have grown since he filled his lawsuit.

From the original Politico article...
Kashyap Patel, a longtime Nunes staffer who joined the White House in February, was so involved in the issue that at one point Trump thought he was in charge of Ukraine policy for the National Security Council, according to congressional testimony by Fiona Hill, the former senior director for European and Russian Affairs whose portfolio included Ukraine.
.....
His “unique access” to the West Wing, and the ease with which he has been able to interact directly with the president without NSC leadership’s involvement, has also struck some as unusual, the former official said.

Nunes protégé fed Ukraine info to Trump

What does he want besides money, the source for the Politico article? Has this article cost him his job or something? Is it really going to cost Politico 25m to make him whole?

If he wants to claim 2 people just lied to Congress, I think we can assume there will be a subpoena in his near future. Failure to appear for which will put him in legal jeopardy of his own. I don’t think he’s thought through all the consequences of trying to provide his boss with a smokescreen.

Let him have his day in court. Politico regularly damages political figures.

Politico has been a veritable hit machine for those who wield raw power. If I'm not mistaken a number of the false Russia collusion stories originated from Politico.

Could you provide some evidence? I went looking and couldn't find anything to support your accusation, suggesting you are indeed mistaken.

The Republicans have been calling for these laws for years. It's rather ironic that both Nunes and Patel have filed their lawsuits in a state that doesn't have any.

Twitter has appealed to the court stating that the case shouldn't be in Virginia because Nunes doesn't live there and Twitter isn't incorporated there. Members agree when they become a member of Twitter that they won't sue Twitter in any state besides CA where they are located. Nunes is trying to break that contract in this lawsuit. He wants Twitter to give him the names and addresses for the people who have the two cow accounts.

This CF is a social media site. Should someone be able to sue CF for the names and addresses of people with accounts on this site? I say no.

Sounds like Patel's beef is with Fiona Hill and Alexander Vindman. Nothing wrong with Politico accurately reporting what they said.

Incorrect.

From the OP's link:
Defendants intentionally employed a scheme or artifice to defame Kash with the intent to undermine the President’s confidence in Kash and to further Schiff’s impeachment inquisition. Defendants acted in concert with Schiff to accomplish an unlawful purpose through unlawful means, without regard for Kash’s rights and interests.

Defendants abandoned all journalistic integrity and violated their own code of ethics in order to further the conspiracy with Schiff. Defendants did not seek truth; report truth; minimize harm; act independently; and they most certainly were not transparent
.

Patel may have a high bar to clear to prove his case ... but juries are often unpredictable ... and juries are often sympathetic when malice is apparent.

He's the plaintiff in a civil suit - I'm not sure that he can demand a jury, but, if so, I imagine the court costs will be quite high when he loses.
