why are there so many evil people in the world?

...because the meaning and application of the concept of 'good' is contingent to the Ethical framework one chooses to assume is correct, and there are many to choose from ...

Just because you or I may think something is good---or even 'a' good for society---doesn't make it so.
It makes it good “to me”. If you’re positing a “good” that exists outside of opinion, well, we both know there’s no argument that’s convincing to everyone...

Perhaps, but as I said to another poster above: This is a metaphysical assumption on your part which isn't self-evident and essentially smacks of the assumptions of Humanism (or maybe Egoism in some cases). Moreover, unfortunately, the assumptions of Humanism (even as they come in various guises) can't be taken for granted any more than can the ideas of the Christian Faith. They all have to be placed into the philosophical centrifuge and vetted out.

Of course, I get your point that the old proverb about only being able to "please some of the people some of the time" will surely apply.

Just to clarify something: I believe that the intention behind the post you quoted was to mock your prayer by saying it was no different from those 'magic words', therefore he was actually calling you a 'sorcerer'.

Prayers to The Lord are not sorcery.

I do not claim to speak for Tinker but the most apt comparison for how atheists view prayer would be to stage magic, poorly done unconvincing stage magic.

Hello maybe that is not real faith. Faith is learning to be like Jesus Christ. Is He an unpleasant person?
That guy was far from perfect like any other human being. I have no wish to emulate anyone else, just be me.
